I hope I’m not repeating a topic but I couldn’t find any discussions on this one. Recently acquired a 10g box of this stuff. One of the first things noticeable when opening the side slider on the container is the faint aroma of mint. But make no mistake, this is not a mentholated snuff. The appearance is of a dark tannish color sprinkled with a few khaki to light brown grains. My batch was fairly dry, a mostly medium to fine grind with a wee bit of grittiness. The mint is subtle yet perceivable while the tobacco taste still comes through unhindered. To me it has a slight barnyard aroma, almost corn like. However, this isn’t meant as a negative description as the mellowness sort of lingers and seems to draw me back for more. Something in it appeals to my primal taste areas, like the smell of freshly plowed soil. It took me a couple of tries but I now find that I enjoy the subtle earthy flavor and keep going back for more as an occasional break from my usual menthol-madness sprees.
Its a good peppermint snuff.
This is one of my favourite Sam Gawith snuffs, I bought a few tins of this before they went over to the new plastic containers. Originally this was a coarse grind, and described so on the Samuel Gawith web-site. I notice my last two tins have been finer. None the less, a good snuff, the peppermint comes through nicely but not overdone.
I think the name is vary apt for this one. It is nice to use after a stressful day. The mint is not overwhelming. In the package I had the grind was mixed. I will see when I get more. I lost the last half of my package to the washing machine. It does remind me of corn and earth.
