I am placing a lilbrown order for some pipe tobacco and I see they have both of these. Which would you recommend to see if I like sweet scotches?

D

Honeybee is awesome.  I have not had RR sweet but I have had plain.  I found plain fairly strong but the throat drip was harsh.  Probably speaks more of my technique though.

That’s difficult because HB is unique among the sweets. To try sweets in general I’d go with RR.

C

heh sounds like I should just get both

J

Dude. Make sure it’s not for one of those huge things. Maybe Honeybee or RR Mills Sweet have their fans, but they are not many people who would invest in a 4.5oz Thrift Can.

C

so basically what you’re saying is that I am not going to find these similar to a toast with a honey flavoring? Now you have me scared to order because the tumblers are exactly what they have, they don’t have the pocket size.

S

unfortunately, no, honey bee is super sweet … like a honey graham cracker … but 10x sweeter.  it is not an all day snuff in my opinion.  it is a once in a blue moon kind of snuff … unless you have a sweet tooth, then it is right up your alley.  even a sweet like carharts or red seal are too sweet to me … nothing like the exquisite whiskey and honey.

I think this thread convinced me to go with Square  :)

H

That’s definitely a great choice. It’s what I took a pinch of before posting this.

Thats terrible, Maccoboy was one of the unique American’s, very similar to the F&T version if memory serves.

C

Maccoboy discontinued? Somewhere @Xander is crying.

N

Probably in his igloo

C

Ha!  If he could only get on, then he could respond.

D

Almost makes me wish I hadn’t traded away my last bottle of Maccoboy, well except the fact I did not like it that much.

Ohh, sorry to here that! Stash value goes up again!

Ok, I’m cryng now! I have a good size stash of this, but not a lifetime supply. I’d write to Swisher and complain, but with the nature of the company that would be an effort in futility. If only there were more small scale snuff makers in this country. You get better response from them,

T

Not a huge fan of Honey Bee…it leaves me feeling like I have pieces of chewed up sweet licorice stuck in the back of my throat…like improperly chewed strawberry licorice.

J

@cakeanddottle : Good, I’m glad you didn’t order the thrift cans of either sweet without trying them. Sweet scotches are definitely not something you should buy without trying first. Have you checked to see if you can get any locally? I can get RR Mills Sweet, Buttercup, and Tops Sweet locally. I don’t particularly love any of them, especially not thrift can love them. It would literally probably last you the rest of your life.

I haven’t tried Square, but it’s a lot safer bet.

C

WE Garrett sweet is the only one I can get locally
