Royal George

Just tried this monster snuff on a cold night, So good, something about it is warming my head… I noticed the label is a bit different from other Wilsons’ The spice on this one is quite something.

It is quite a famous snuff with a kind of love it or hate it thing going on and is said to contain 20 flavouring ingredients. I use it now and again as small addition to strong plain types, about 1 part in 10, on it’s own it’s just a touch too insane for me.

Royal George has been and continues to be my preferred nightcap snuff. It just eases me right into sleep.

That’s interesting, I bet there are not many with that particular habit:) I tend to buy a pound drum from Wilsons every few years and just spin it out endlessly as an additive to my own use home-blends. I’m down to my last couple of pounds of a massive mixed grill - my daily snuff - which has RG in it. It’s a great snuff just a bit too much like bath salts for me. I would love a peek at the recipe though.

I find it really interesting, it seems to me to have this dual nature to it, hot and cold spiciness fusioning in my nose.

Royal George has been a favorite for a long time. It’s especially nice just before settling in for a nap. It gives you that “alls well” feeling.

i get that ‘all is well’ feeling from camelopard.

It’s definitely got personality but to me it is a bit like a person you like a lot who happens to be afflicted with borderline personality disorder–hard to ignore. I honestly don’t know if I like it or not.

I like it- but not all day, every day. To me it’s pretty much a mild, smooth, “floral and other stuff” kinda snuff. Seems to me some wallflower perhaps?

I visit royal george often, not an all day but nice to shake things up a bit. The Dr.Pepper of snuff

Something about it doesn’t agree with me. It was in my first order and it almost turned me off heavily scented/perfumed snuff. I’ve since bought F&T Dr. J.R. Justice which is quite heavily scented but I like it much better.

oddly it wakes me up.

Yes, it does indeed have a strong aroma to it. It is very complicated and to me is enjoyed best in ‘small’ quantities, on its own. I am not looking for any kind of nicotine kick with this. Due to the very complicated background aromas, small amounts seem to allow me to be able to try to get more nuances out of it. I find that I detect different things if I try in different seasons, humidty levels and where there are different background smells to compare or contrast. Is it my favorite? No, but it is something that everyone should try. It has a fine ‘lineage’.

If you would be so kind as to indulge a novice, @stogie, on the lineage of Royal George.

@Zimobog I think it was a pun regarding the lineage of the British royal family, hence the quotation marks.

On it’s own, I hate it, but I’m intrigued and curious by @snuffster’s suggestion of using it as a seasoning with strong plain snuffs. That, I will have to try.

This stuff does sound interesting. I’ve just added a small box to my New Year Megaorder.

Me and Mrs Pufnsnuff went to Salisbury where I found a very nice tobacconists shop, and I came away with 20 quids worth of snuff, and thanks to them I’ve finally met Royal George. He’s very much a dandy - lace edged sleeves on his jacket I bet, much like the fine fellow pictured on the tin, a scent almost of marzipan, or perhaps cherry bakewell which, as it lessens broadens out into a more delicate perfumed scent. Very light snuff which, as has been suggested, benefits from small pinches rather than hefty sniffs - that way lies a cough and momentarily frozen eyeballs!

IMO this is something that every snuffer should try at least once.

I will have to add this one to my list of things to try
