So every can I open is round and holy crap does it take a skilled person to open a round can. I bathed and put lotion on my daughter last night and tried to open a can of o & g but my fingers were slick fom the lotion. Later on that day I noticed that I could not open that round can to save my life. Has anyone else had this problem and how the hell can I get a pinch iff i cannot get the damn lid off a round can?
some tins you have to work with. make sure your hands aren’t greasy or oily. sometimes i use my hanky to open a tin. i really haven’t had any problems opening tins.
Also be wary of fitting square pegs in round holes.
Decant all of the snuff into an airtight container that you can open easily and in turn decant into a snuffbox as you need it. Much nicer and you can get a decent snuf box these days for just a few $/£’s. Also, using the snuff from the container it came in shortens it’s life in terms of freshness as you are constantly opening and closing and exposing to the air. Most round snuff tins (Toque and FandT excluded) are far from airtight once the adhesive tape or cellophane wrapper has been removed as well. If a can lasts you a long time it will be dry way before you finish it.
Struggling a bit with the lid makes the snuff taste a little better though. When you finally get it open and take a big pinch…ahh satisfying.
try getting and using one of those rubber jar opening things? Editing to add – I have one of them (I get them from a local business that stamps their business on them to advertise themselves and then gives them away but I bet you can buy them in a store) and I just tried this on a 25g Toque can of Toast and Marmalade (not that I really need to I can open the can anyway but to make sure its big enough and would work, and it is and does).
Some round tins, Wilson’s in particular, will ‘pop’ open if you squeeze the tin.
“Some round tins, Wilson’s in particular, will ‘pop’ open if you squeeze the tin.” Haha wow, this actually works. I never thought to try it though as I’ve never really had this problem.
my Wilson’s can (25g) doesn’t even seem to have screw threads on it, its not a turner at all (I’ve been turning it open all this time and never realized heh, I only just now see can pull it straight up). It does make an audible little “pop” if you squeeze it, but with a tin as full as mine that likes to erupt if I don’t pack it all down, that’s kinda asking for extra trouble from it.
