Rolling tobacco to snuff?

Hi I have quite a large stash of rolling tobacco (mainly Golden Virginia). I quit smoking rollies a few weeks ago, but the temptation to smoke is still there whilst I have the tobacco. I don’t want to smoke it. I don’t know anyone who smokes roll-ups. How difficult would it be to convert the tobacco to snuff, would it be worth it, and are there any instructions anywhere on how I’d do this? It’s either that, or it goes down the toilet. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Oscar, I restarted smoking rollies after getting some American Spirit to make snuff. lol It took me about six months, but I finally quit the rollies; and feeling much better! American Spirit regular makes a pretty good plain snuff. I haven’t tried any others, but I hear Bugler makes a good strong snuff. I remember getting head rushes upon smoking Bugler rollies, so it probably would be great snuff. One of the members here was commenting on it. If you want a really STRONG snuff, try grinding some Cotton Boll twist (not rollie baccy), it’s the bomb.

I think I’ve read here that you can use a coffee grinder to grind snuff. Is that right? And how do you go about sieving it afterwards, since I assume not all grains are the same size?

A coffee grinder or even the old pestle and mortar will do the trick. I once threw away a load of cigars that I didnt like and was going to turn in to snuff, regret it now. Even if your results arent great, at least you have had a go. You could try soaking the tobacco in the flavour of your choice before grinding and the drying it out. I think you will get a better flavour that way. Just grinding and adding something to a tin to give it flavour doesnt last long (at least when I have tried it. Why not go out on a limb and try to make some sort of rappee!?

Cool, I think I’m going to give this a try one day soon too. I think you answered another question I had too, which is whether you can grind somewhat damp tobacco, for example as it would come from a cigar, without drying first. I sense that it’ll grind up just fine when ‘fresh?’

i’ve tried making my own snuff from tobacco but gently drying in a low oven with the door ajar definitely helps with the grinding.

A coffee grinder - I have one of those. Going to try it now. What about flavorings? Is there anything I could use which may be in my kitchen? Really appreciate the advice, thanks.

Dill Pickle Juice. Try it you will like it.

Hahaaaa. Just tried grinding the golden virginia. I didn’t remove the smearing of coffee from the grinder thinking I might make a coffeeish kinda snuff. It wasn’t a big success. The grind of the snuff is too course, it causes an unpleasant sting, and smells like I’m inhaling GV which isn’t very appealing either. Got plenty more tobacco to practice with.

I’d swear there’s pickle juice in Molens MusinoTabak…at least I smell something similar. And it is pretty GOOD!

I tried making a snuff with Export A Gold tobacco, it had a pretty decent scent, burned like hell and gave the biggest head rush lol. I just baked it on really low heat for like 5 mins then grinded it with a mortar and pestle

I’ll have to get a pestle and mortar.

I roll 4 Aces pipe tobacco for cigs, and I had a little “shake” leftover (anybody who uses a tube-injector machine will know what I’m on about). I toasted it in the oven at 235 for 15 minutes and ground finely with a mortar and pestle. Results? A faint nutty scent almost like toasted pumpkin seeds and almost no detectable nic whatsoever. Ah well…

There are some good grinding your own threads on here.

juxtaposer I always wonder if you where not right in the head now I know you are. Why would anyone want to grind their own threads!

Right, you have to spin thread.

I have been snuffing a lot of pot lately guys, so almost everything I say will have multiple meanings.

@Bart mine turned out great using Red Cap RYO and pickle juice. I got the idea from Kronan Snus. A real favorite taste to me. I put some Kronan in the lip and a little of my snuff, I call Mount Vernon thats where the pickles are made in my nose and I’m good for another hour.

Mt Vernon has a Stately, high-brow sound to it, Gimpy…I like it! And the best part is, it’s really floor scraps and vinegar squeezings! That Red Cap is available near me…Maybe I’ll get pickled as well. btw, when I was getting snus, I enjoyed the Kronan too, and Ettan original and N& Johnny…all just plain flavors seemed the best to me. Appreciate the tip.

@ everybody on here We all do things like we want to. Some work some don’t. I ain’t no snuff maker, I was just playing around trying not to smoke to much Red Cap RYO (pipe tobacco). If you have a Grinder (coffee) The Burr kind is what Pieter Classenn advised me to use. If the grind is to coarse, grind it again, and again, till it’s the way you want it. I dry mine (in a toaster oven) till i can crunch it with my hands, it grinds good that way. Then I put what ever seasoning I want in smash box (or a glass vial like Mr snuff sells with the spoons attached) sprikle tobacco into container until it looks like mud. or if you use dry seasoning just shake it up. When it dries back out to the moisture I like I snuff it. Thats my story< I’m sticking to it. Thanks for letting me put in my 2 pennies worth.
