…a pina colada? This flavor seems like a no-brainer to me.

D

They could also develop a “Getting Caught In The Rain” scent.  If you order both, you get Rupert Holmes’ mailing address.

B

You have to wait in line like the rest of us. LOL!

B

why doesn’t toque find a way to get me a job as a hero of tobacco?

O

Piña Colada snuff doesn’t make my penis dance. I want MORE TOASTS!!!

B

Hey, that would be great!  As luck would have it, I like pina coladas.  I usually drink them at a bar called O’Malley’s.

J

Yucky, I think he knows what he is doing.  Im not going to try and make suggestions when I havent had one successful business idea since the Flowbee(I’m serious, it was my idea).

C

I don’t think you will ever see a Toque Pina Colada, Roderick has stated that it is impossible to naturally recreate the flavors.  I wouldn’t doubt it if SG would release one, they used to make a coconut.

T

I think we’d struggle with the coconut. Coconut is too subtle to extract the flavour naturally and I won’t use synthetic flavouring. But now I’m cursing you guys for making me really want a tropical holiday with a warm sea and a jug of Pina Colada. A cold Monday evening in Berwick upon Tweed just isn’t the same.

V

Why not an Ambergris snuff. I know it would be expensive, but I’d pay good money for something like that…even $50 for a 5g tin.

T

We have looked at a Gold snuff with flakes of real gold, but I’m not convinced by the health argument.

J

I don’t think Au would absorb that way.  Youd need like swallowed dust I think. However, powdered zink would help with the cold virus.  Thats the science behind Zicam.  It has been implicated in total loss of olfactory function though… no smellingness

H

Isn’t there a liquor you can buy with gold flake in it? So I don’t see why a snuff would be any different. And if I’m not mistaken, gold is actually pretty safe to ingest as long as you don’t eat a pound of gold dust or something.

D

Goldschlager I think is the one you’re referring to.  It’s pretty tasty too.

J

Goldschlager, and its a marketing gimmick. Gold isnt going to dissolve in your stomach like a vitamin or a pill, also gold flecks in your nose probably arent going to cross the sinus membrane. I said nothing of ill effects, but you’d need something very finely granulated to actually do something in the body.

B

Gold is inert so it would be fine. Pointless waste of gold. Gold makes great airgun pellets!

H

hmm…somewhere on here someone mentioned a “three wise men” snuff with fankencense and myhr (yeah, didn’t feel like looking up the spelling), but everyone was stumped on the gold part…so why not real gold? I mean, even with my…okay, saying it nicely…I normally avoid those kinds of things, but I’d make an exception for a snuff like that.

X

Ambergris is a fine idea. Probably good for a special edition snuff, not a standard full production one.

V

@Xander

I agree, it would be so pricey that few people would want to make it a ‘daily’ snuff. Except for me, I’d love that smell in my nose all day long.

T

I thought you could only buy synthetic Ambergris?

X

http://www.ambergris.co.nz/

X

I beleive Jaap looked into it for the re-creation of St. Omer, but found it prohibitavley expensive, and opted for the synthetic. Stll, as a one off it could be affordable.

G

If we’re going for a drink related snuff, why isn’t there a port flavour anywhere I’ve seen? That’d be incredible…

V

I think it would make a decent profit for the maker. I’d buy at least 3 tins.  I know there are plenty of us on here that consider ourselves gourmets of the tobacco world, and Ambergris snuff would definetely be on their wish lists.

@Gecko, Port flavor! That sounds delicious. A good sweet wine. Maybe some icewine too (icewine from canada ofcourse!)

J

Ambergrils:
At worst it smells like dung, at best it smells like rubbing alcohol or moss… I don’t think Ill be chasing it down any time soon.

D

“Freshly produced ambergris has a marine, fecal odor. However, as it ages, it acquires a sweet, earthy scent commonly likened to the fragrance of rubbing alcohol without the vaporous chemical astringency.” - Wikipedia

Yuck.

S

Like witch hazel? mm mm - that’d be truly medicated

blech

C

Molens Bon Bon has ambergris in it (synthetic).

N

and Bon Bon is damn delicious!

V

I was so curious about that Molens that I went on MrSnuff and ordered 2…

V

You know I would really love to see a root beer as well as a cream soda flavor, you got coke…why not a whole line of soda Toques?

M

Hey Roderick, I’ve an idea. If you make a snuff based on one (or more) of our ideas- allready submitted mine , you should send us (the ones who thought them up) some tins of that flavor. Kinda like that one business did with the pipe tobacco creations, and sell them as the “Snuffhouse Created Line” special limited reserve, or something. Could be a fun contest. Just a thought…

H

Anything for free snuff, huh? lol Just for that, everyone should get a 5g tin of the “Crack of Arse” somebody mentioned. (I’m terrible with names, but remember the posts themselves, heh)

M

Seriously I’m unemployed, I could be a snuff consultant. I could work for snuff and write reviews and stuff. Don’t some of the British Snuffmills need a consultant across the pond? Gotta reach for that dream job.

I do really think though that it would be cool to do a contest like that! Have people enter thier ideas, pick the 5 best sounding formulas, tweak as needed and make a batch or two of each. Maybe not too practical though, but again, it don’t hurt to have a pipe dream.

T

Mr.O, We do!

We’ve had competitions for names, slogans, reviews (Top25 are about to start another). Anyone who’s suggestions for Toque are used, is always rewarded.

B

That would explain the box of elves I got a while ago.

A

@Mr.O - I’m getting that job. I don’t necessarily think I am better qualified, but I am one heck of a lot nearer >:)

M

Toque, cool!  I’ll keep thinkin’ then!

Snuffster, that’s the whole idea! Well not the whole idea… you need to expand your scope I’d say, to bring more high quality snuffs over to our shores. To give a loyal new employee a chance to work for a reasonable allowance of snuff. I allready admitted I’m a dreamer so…

C

If we’re going for a drink related snuff, why isn’t there a port flavour anywhere I’ve seen? That’d be incredible…”

I have a WoS Sherry in my cart that I thought sounded good. Maybe it would be similar? Anybody try it?

Also: I would love a pistachio-pudding or ice cream flavoured snuff.

A

Ive just reviewed sherry, excellent snuff.

P

Lilac would be spectacular.

J

+1 for Lilac edit: actually +100000. I’d love a Lilac snuff.

G

I don’t know, I really enjoy port but have never been able to like sherry as a drink. As a snuff it could be different I guess, but I’m still holding out for a beautiful port flavour.

C

Real men snuff wasabi. Toque Wasabi anyone?

+2 on the lilac suggestion

P

Oooh, Lilac would be amazing.

M

Most everybody does a gin and tonic these days, could be good. Or what about a martini flavor (minus the olive please) if there’s a way to give the impression of vermouth.

edit Or, why didn’t I think of this sooner, Sandalwood. One can obtain sandalwood oil from Australia or Vanatua(sp?). To avoid using the endangered Indian, or I guess there is some sustainably farmed there now, but I don’t know how available it is.

A pine/spruce/fir or whatever evergreen.

Chai tea: cinnamon, ginger, cardomom, clove and a touch of black pepper or whatnot. On a mildly scented base.

M

Mr. OFebruary 29
“A pine/spruce/fir or whatever evergreen.”

a mix of spruce and hops would be spectacular

M

Took my own advice and mixed 50/50 McChrystal’s Hopfen and Bernard’s Fichtennadel. Tastes really resinous, like having an ale deep in a pine wood forest. Maybe next I’ll add some Latakia to give it a bit of campfire…

M

Interesting. btw I’ve been shopping around for essential oils of hops and hops extract with limited results. Also need to find some evergreen needle ess oil. Word to the wise: when you buy, for example, ess oil of pine do a little research, you may get an oil from the pine wood and not the pine needle, I think the latter is more desireable for snuff purposes.

M

Here’s a source for pine needle essential oil:

https://www.lorannoils.com/p-8905-pine-needle-pure-essential-oil.aspx

M

Thank’s I’ll check that out! Back in the early 90’s my local herb etc. shop had cough syrup (size and shape) bottles of pine needle oil for about $5-9, but no more

H

Why not just use fresh pine needles?

M

My deal is to use the oils when safe to do so. If not then I’d use plant material, but I don’t want to fish/filter the herbs out of the snuff. Also I would guess the oils are less likely to spoil or introduce any mold spores or whatnot. And wouldn’t the oils give a faster, more intense scenting (not that I’ve really used the herb material method much). But probably the oil/extract is just more comfortable to me (for some reason), that and the intensity of scent are my personal biggest issues.

C

Depending what the carrier oil is, they can go rancid.  I would go for alcohol based extract.

M

Valid point. But I buy the straight essential oils without carrier oils, although they’re more expensive. A batch of Sandalwood, Catnip, and Hops oils, might demolish this month’s disposable income!

X

@Mr._O Try this place: http://store.isisbooks.com/PINE\\_ESSENTIAL\\_OIL\\_1\\_dram\\_p/pine.htm I’m not into Tarot or anything, but they seem to have every essential oil and herb under the sun. I have a few ideas i’m working on and so far this place is the only source I’ve been able to locate for a few of them.

B

that man they got a lot of tarot decks though.

H

bleh…very new-agey, but it looks like their oil prices are good.

C

I buy locally from here:

www.leavesandroots.com

They also ship.

J

A local supplier in Eastern Europe has pine essential oil for 67 $ / litre (83$ vat included) http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ro&tl=en&js=n&prev=\\_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uleiurivolatile.ro%2Foferta.html

M

I’m familiar with them, I’ll have to check out thier oils again. I tend to buy larger amounts 1/4 to 1 ounce, unless it’s prohibitally(sp) expensive or only available in smaller amounts (but maybe they sell larger too idk).  The bummer for me is the cost of oils of: hops, catnip(I have no cat), and Morroccan chamomile. Also price true Melissa(lemon balm) so expensive…

CStokes- I’ll check them out thank’s!

How many pinches of snuff could one flavor with a liter of pine oil? Boggles the mind!

H

Okay, I can say with certainty that fresh lemon balm leaves can work wonderfully. I grew some last year and the leaves are very fragrant when broken, and I’m sure would be great for snuff. And maybe only 2-3 leaves per ounce depending on the strength you want.

C

The thing about oils is that very little goes a very long way.  If you are adding it directly to the snuff, go light.  It is amazing how fragrant a drop or two can be.

M

Good to know! My lemon balm didn’t grow too well this year but I’ve got a little dried. Maybe I should roll some up in my fingers and introduce it into a little batch. I’ve experimented with some oils of lemongrass(for lack of lemon), and bergamot, which created a pretty nice bright scent. Thinking of trying some others (just a drop per batch), so I’m looking at the catnip, hops, peppermint, juniper berry, pine needle, maybe clary sage- probably not all in the same batch, mind you… as long as they’re safe…

J

Fresh herb leaves as you mention do well to humidify snuff. Crumbling into a ball and putting them in your snuff box has a similar  effect as a tonka or vanilla bean. +1 for fresh herb use.

T

II haven’t tried cheese and bacon but I would be very eager to try bacon. Maybe make toast and bacon or a bacon toast. If it were half as good as whiskey and honey I’d have it in the collection for good.

D

I tried the C&B last night again.  At first I thought that perhaps I had been too hard on the snuff.  It was smoky, warm and had a quite pleasant scent.  But then, the cheese started coming through…GOOD GOD THE CHEESE!  And it just wouldn’t go away!  I blew my nose, tried heavier snuffs, and by god the damn stuff still just held on.  For over an hour I had those random whiffs of cheese lurk around in my nose.  It’s not horrible, it’s tormenting.  What a terrible price to pay for such a wonderful starting scent.  And yet…I find myself drawn to it…but the linger…oh god the linger… *weeps*

M

I must invest in a nice mortar and pestle for some of these herbs. Still, though, I would like to find a source for single origin hops extracts/oil. Since I’ve begun to discover hop varieties that I particularily care for, it would be good to pick and choose and have more control of the result. But all my googling has been of dissappointing results, the products I find seem to be of unknown origin.

Has anybody else pursued this line of research?

M

I think the volatiles in whole hops catkins would infuse the snuff if the two were sealed in a glass jar, gently heated, and allowed to meld for a few weeks. As for essential oils, I’ve found putting a drop on a piece of paper towel and treating as above works well, too.

M

Yeah that might be best to use whole hops, really macerate them first, also an excellent way to justify buying a shiny new mortar and pestle- thinkin’ of going stainless steel. I’ll have to experiment with indirect scenting, maybe using a cheap shot glass and cotton ball.

T

Dogwalla, LOL!

H

Dear Gods, no! Steal is one of the worst materials for a mortar and pestle. Wood, clay, even marble is better than stainless. It imparts that metalic smell to everything and it’s too slick to do a decent job of grinding to begin with.

J

We have stone mortar and pestle all over the place here for the latin population to make masa. They are big ones too.

T

After Dogwalla’s comment, I think it’s now officially a fact that Cheese & Bacon lovers are snuff masochists Despite the smell, and even trying to stay away, they have a burning desire to torment their noses with it.

BTW, my Bourbon and my Whisky & Honey smells like bacon sometimes. Is that just me?

J

@Theatre: the whole reason C&B exists is because some of the members here were giving Roderick a hard time about Bourbon smelling like Bacon. This lead to Roderick releasing C&B to put them in their place.

S

i suppose i am a snuff masochist … i find the scent of C&B pretty good every now and again.

M

Harlequin, idk… I need something I can really hammer with, you know? As I may be working with very hard, dry nuts, seeds, roots etc. I figure stainless is more neutral than brass.  I’ve had a clay suribachi (for cooking) and I know that’s not suitable. Also I’ve had a chemists ceramic unit, better to handle pressure, but still may be deficient to handle impact. Wood I wouldn’t use with stress, or with the oils contained in aromatic herbs, also it needs to be something that can be washed and/or cleaned with alcohol. This leaves me with the question “will marble/granite handle hard impacts without breaking, chipping etc?” If not, then I need the steel, or is there another option? Also I haven’t _personall_y experienced stainless steel reacting with aromatics, also it’ll only contact the metal for a short while- but that’s just my thinking…

H

What kind of impact are you talking about?! My ceramic one stood up to me pummeling cherry pits into a coarse cracked pepper consistancy!

T

I haven’t been dissappointed by any toque yet. The flavor on the tin is the flavor I get from them. I’m not a big fan of cheese so I’ve avoided the cheese and bacon. Now I really want to try bourbon though… I’m a big fan of SP extra and W&H. Toque has a great mix of niche snuffs in addition to more traditional offerings and modern twists on them. But I think Roderick’s just getting started and has many more classic snuffs to come. I think that W&H alone is grounds for putting his work next to all the other British snuff companies that have centuries on him. In addition the fact that toque can be ordered and delivered direct from the manufacturer to the US makes Toque top dog in my book. I wish the company continued success and development of more classics.

P

Did you make the Lilac yet? ;))

C

Still awaiting Toque Wasabi

D

Why doesn’t Toque have a popcorn or buttered popcorn?

M

Harlequin- maybe I underestimate the hefty ceramics. I might use one on very hard dried roots etc. Ideally I’d like one that could, for example, crush up a nice ginseng root, or crack up a nutmeg pretty well. I remember my pestle broke,  I was a kid using it for chemistry set-type stuff, but I probably just dropped it. But all in all I want to be able to use it with a hard hammering, pounding motion without chipping etc.

A

Real men snuff DragunFire spiced SP.

Perique

J

@Snuffster Does that mean there’s something new in the offing?
