Review Pöschl Gletscherprise

So here’s my review of Gletscherprise which I can always buy in my local shop. Pöschl does her best to be close to people and offer snuff in more and more places. I see them everywhere and in Germany even in train stations, petrol stations and road restaurants. But is it a good snuff? The box is funny. I will need the 15gr refill box next time. The tobacco is somewhere between moist and dry, just perfect for everyone I guess. Rather moist but it has a tendency to dry out after time. So continue using an open box as all day snuff and don’t store too long. The plastic box is airtight but a little too… Perhaps. My nose, trained in the meantime, detects soft mint-oil, not sharp menthol like the English snuffs have. Very warm and full bodied mint oil. There is a spicy note, nutmeg? Or coriander? Some slight fennel and chamomile. Herbs that grow in the gletscher areas of Middle Europe. Hence the name. The tobacco base scent open up after a while of waiting patiently. I detect some Cuban and Brazil. Read somewhere Pöschl uses only South-American tobaccos. After the fresh hint comes the spicy hint and then the tobacco hint but that’s it. Then you start to crave for a new prise. But what on earth is Columbia-öl? No Google information. Pöschls own invention, a nice mysterious marketing-trick? Not a bad snuff at all that is being presented to the big audience. Nothing to be shy about for the long time user as well. Quality. And Pöschl promotes good working conditions for the tobacco farmers. A vital company lead by a young couple that innovates but keeps the good things in tradition. A snuff I would recommend to beginners and the advanced user as well. We can’t pass it by. Pöschls marketing takes care of that.

Ha, This was the only imported snuff I found at International tobacco KoP Mall Pa. The owner of the shop was surprised when I asked if he had any other snuff. He thought this was the only one. he gave me a box and he wanted an offer on the remaining in the display case. More of a cigar store , the ony had a few tins of Dunhill tobacco and a six pack of the same pipes of a maker I had not heard of. Snuff is just about impossible to find in my neck of the woods. Nice review

I also notice some cigar-y notes, which is very nice. The shame is that the grind/oil combination from Pöschl is just not made for my nose, not anymore. But for those that can take it, Gletscher is a very good snuff indeed. About Columbia-Öl, I’ve red somewhere that it is fir three essential oil, and some vaguely piney notes can be noticed along the herbals you mention, which contributes to the overall complexity of the snuff.

Hi Salmiak, here is the poschl list of tobacco used: http://www.poeschl-tobacco.com/en/products/snuff-production/
Indeed there is south america in the list, how do you recognize the brazil and cuban taste ? I ve haven’t snuffed enough to feel the difference I guess but maybe if you tell more about it I can feel it !

This is where it all started for me. Local tobacconist stocked it and it was the very first one I tried. Knew right away that snuff was for me.

a fave first snuff of the mornin’ for me. I have a bunch of foil packs to transfer to small cannin’ jars.

i like the edel frucht too. I have, but hacen’t tried ther spearmint, hmm… I feel fortunate to be able to

get some decent snuff as none around me to buy.Yup, long live the GletscherPrise…

I do enjoy this myself - I don’t currently have many snuffs to rotate, but as an everyday carry I find it pleasantly menthol-y and the herbal hints very nice, too.

I have purchased a tap box of Gletcher Prise y’day (after many years). So I can say I wa very pleasantly surprised how good tobacco is hidden under heavy menthol load. Of course combination of piney essence with menthol make this tobacco rather pleasant even for me, whom kinda disliked mentholed snuff and german blending style. If it have a wee bit less menthol and more piney scent it will be a winner for me. Overall very good for OTC snuff. Above average 3.75 out 5 points. Jack
