Is there any way to remove menthol from snuff? Will it evaporate or lose its potency over time? I have never been into menthol in the slightest, and am pretty sensitive to it. It seems that menthol is a much more common ingredient than I had known. I placed my first order for snuff awhile ago and based on the descriptions I was not expecting menthol in many, although I did try a few, but many i had not expected had menthol in it and the ones I knew about blew my nose out the water (a few of them are simply too much). I have gained a little bit of traction as far as enjoying these, I’ve gotten somewhat more acclimated to them over time, but was wondering if there were any old tricks to minimizing current menthol levels. I have been playing around with mixing some, that’s kind of a constant thing. No big deal if I simply have to deal, I just didn’t know a better community of fine, educated snuffers to ask. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this isn’t posted in the right place, I’m still fairly new to this forum.
Unfortunately, menthol cannot be removed without ruining the snuff. The only reasonable fix is cutting it with some menthol-free snuff (or schmalzler, if only your nose is on good terms with the latter). Ideally, with a similar or same (if available) base, plain or scented.
Which mentholated and menthol-free snuffs have you got?
The smaller 6 grammers are LA snuff, Indian curry, super Kailash, green dragon, gold rush and himtaj, the JNF heritage pack has Janta mail, Laxmi Gulab, big bull, Punjabi Janta, white horse, white horse gul, dragon madras, medicated, panzari, and crystal, last two are non tobacco non nicotine. That was my first order, I got an idea of what I liked and was a little more selective with my second order which is not pictured, but I got white line, white charlie, white toot, fribourg&treyer high dry t, wilsons of sharrow Irish no. 22 and plain, gold eagle cheer ye, dholakia whisky honey and smokers blend, and Paul Gotard cherry. Based on the descriptions I just wasn’t expecting the menthol to be so strong, but am trying to work my tolerance up. I just generally bump pretty large sized piles from my hand, and with the menthols I have to do so little to be able to tolerate it I never get a satisfying amount of nicotine. (Although I never really get enough nicotine)
Also before I even ordered from online I had W.E Garrett and Sons scotch and sweet, and bruton scotch, those are the only ones available locally. I couldn’t even really imagine what menthol would be like in snuff, but wanted to try a few, and descriptions mentioned some had the ‘spicy version of menthol’ so thought that would be interesting but I can’t tell the difference between spicy or regular menthol.
You’ve got some awesome snuff there! If you don’t care for menthol, you’re not going to like Hedges, which is a shame, as it’s one of my all-time favorites.
