Remnants in the snuff box

Since I’m relatively new to snuff, there are bounds to be points of etiquette to which I’m not yet privy. One of those is what to do with a pinch or two or four left in your snuff box when you’re headed to bed. Do you leave them in there and simply refill the box with the same snuff the next day? Dump it out into your decanter container? I know someone will say “snuff it all before bed!” The problem is that my rate and amount of consumption is yet to be established so lately I’ve been overshooting how much to take for a day. Thoughts?

I add new snuff to it either the same or something different, if its a flavor you enjoy then you might like them together…

If I plan on using the same snuff the next day I just leave it in there, if I’m going to be using something else I tip it back in the tin/tub. Saying that, I’m getting quite good at eyeballing a day’s worth of snuff so I rarely end up with a huge amount left in my box before bed.

Maybe this is me being lazy, but I’ve dedicated a snuffbox to each of my daily favorites and just top them off as needed. I try not to put so much in them that the snuff goes too dry before refilling, but I haven’t noticed much of an issue with that anyway. I usually carry three snuffs with me to work in a little Maxpedition bag with my ecig and its backups and liquid. My whole nicotine kit is a pretty nice little unit. (One guy asked me once if I was diabetic because the ‘kit’ looks so … official I guess.)

That’s the same as me @ddavelarsen. I have a box for toasts, a box for menthols, a box for SP’s and a box for my mixture, “Atomic Camphor Bomb”, ( 2 Parts Camphor and Mild, 2 Parts Zip, 1 Part Dholakia White, 1 Part Dholakia Black). Stefan

You can get all picky about stuff like this and if you have the nose of a wine taster maybe it matters, but I just dump whatever follows straight in there. It’s soon overpowered, mind you I have a lousy sense of smell so maybe it’s important!!

Wow, Atomic Camphor Bomb does sound like a bomb! That’s not for anyone who’s faint of heart, lol! I bet my buddy @FischTix will mix that bad boy up, I think he has all those components…

I’m with snuffster! Hell, half the time my brain knows what the scent is, but i just can’t put it into words. I believe my wild youth, along with a deviated septum due to too many broken noses(fights, hockey, etc…) have a lot to do with my poor sense of smell. This could be why the stronger scented snuffs appeal to me so much.

I use the snuff until its gone, and if there is a significant amount left but I can’t pinch it out, it goes in my “Failed Mix and Unpinchable Bits” Tin. Maybe someday I’ll snuff all that up, too. Using the same or a similar snuff the next day? Top it off!

I’m in the same boat with ddavelarsen and Stefan, I have dedicated snuff boxes that I refill when needed and with the dry snuffs like toasts and scotches I fill the box right up, I mean they are already bone dry so leaving them in the box for extended periods of time shouldn’t hurt them in fact I find I get more flavour out of toasts when they have been sitting in a wooden snuff box for at least a week.

I like all my sniffs taken from a box.

I’m with Gimpy, but until I build my collection up further, I’ll be happy with smashboxes…those things are a miracle at keeping snuffs fresh!!

@nineinch I agree with you about toasts. There is definately more flavour in them when they have aged a bit in a box, I especially find this with Toque Natural toast. Stefan
