Regnas Snuff Box

Well I finally got around to taking some pics and heres my review of my Regnas Sea Fossil snuff box. These are amazing snuff boxes, their stone lids are beautiful and unique. This box is clearly quality craftsmanship and it is a fair size I’d say it can hold at least 5g of snuff, the lid closes tight and it is completely snuff proof. You can’t really see it in the pics but there are silver flaps around the hinge on the inside that come together and enclose the hinge when the lid is closed so no snuff can get in the hinge. They are pricey but the beauty and quality of these boxes make them well worth the money IMHO.

Really great find  makes me think of what Tony Montana would use if he snuffed. Missing the TM monogram though lol.

That is a very beautiful box, n9 - I’m really jealous! I’d never be able to afford one of those, though.

Looks fantastic.

Very nice. Congratulations!

Very, very nice!!! I don’t think I’ll be getting one anytime soon… but I really want one!

I think I’ve got to save up for one of those, that is bloody gorgeous. Stefan

Good choice on the gold plating. My concern would be cracking the stone.

Very elegant and classy! I’d love one of those!

Wow! That is beautiful. Very nice.

Very nice indeed. Does it keep snuff well?

I only kept Himalaya in there so far and my tub is already pretty dry so I can’t really tell. I would imagine really moist snuffs would probably start to dry out after a couple days, I’ll fill it with moist snuff next and see how well it keeps.

I want one in silver or white gold. I hate how tacky gold looks…

Gold plating on the inside of a silver snuff box is desirable because gold won’t taint the flavour of snuff even if left in for an extended period of time.

and silver or white gold will? I didn’t know those two metals could taint the snuff…

@n9inchnails Am I correct in my recollection that you said it’s only $20 extra for the gold plating? Damn fine box btw…still a lil miffed you got the one my wife nixed me on…lol!

@FischTix yes it was only $20 extra for the gold plating. I bought it on their Ebay Store, it isn’t custom made (which is much more expensive)

@transistor: “White” gold is not gold, it is Rhodium. I am not sure if Rhodium would taint the snuff like silver would. I think it is the oxidation of the silver that causes the issue (or oxidation of pewter, tin, whathaveyou). Rhodium does not tarnish at a rapid rate like silver, but is pretty expensive, I think there is less Rhodium in the world compared to gold.

@n9inchnails Wondering how you are getting on with the Regnas box, my 40th is approaching and I am considering buying one of these.

White gold is a gold alloy. Usually gold & nickel. Its usually plated with rhodium to give it lustre.
