Hi to all I’m new here. I hope someone could help me out here a little. I’ll tell you what I like and then you migh get an idea what kind of snuffer I am. I’m an on off snuffer for a little less than 10 years now. But when I do it I do it all the way. The first Snuff I found was in the white round taller can, It is pretty dry and It had a very strong whisky, hay, farm smell if I am describing it correctly. I think its an American brand. I dont have it with me here and don’t know where it is right now to give you the name. I didn’t go crazy for the snuff, but I guess the buzz went crazy for me at the time. Then I bumped in to the poschl snuffs. I tried a few of the flat ozono flavord and just hated the fruity flavors. I can not stand artifical fruty or floral flavors to begin with. I suffer from migraines and that’s a trigger. Then I tried the Gawith Apricot that’s what got me hooked. I used it for a while until I tried the packard and then got attached to both of those. The packard & gawith apricot. And then came the new rules and I stocked up on the two. I still have from both of them. I also, traveled to Europe in the last few years and found a few tins of wilson of Sharrow Extra strength menthol and SM 500 . Mcrstal, I didnt go crazy for any of those. I think the extra S menthol felt to dry texture. My main question is this, I recently traveled out of the country and found RED BULL I decided to try it, another poscol, I have two concerns with it besides I cant get it here. #1 I only bought two. And now I don’t have anything left. It says strong on it, but I dont see why they say that. it works for me. Second, I have an issue with it which I realized now that its common with other snuffs as well, and was told it might be the oil based snuff like poschol. It sometimes has a reserves affect. or it make my nose run, which is usually expected. Bu then at times it clogs my nose so badly that I go crazy from it. The questions please, can anyone think of another snuff I would like if I like red Bull? that is water based? I’m also very curious about the other poschols like the schmalzers ? I remember now, I do have the gletcher prise, I hardly used it. I guess I didn’t fall for it. Sorry for the long rant. Oh and by the way, If you are in the US and have any red bulls or something you want me to try, or maybe that you don’t use but ordered. I wouldn’t mind paying for the shipping to me or trade for Gawith apricot or Packard. Thanks again.

Wilsons Dynamite

F

McChrystals Original & Genuine is a good one. To up the menthol you could try Hedges. Both are British snuffs and so there’s no oil moistening the snuff, only water allowed.

F

With regard to schmalzlers with menthol I like Zwiefacher. Very satisfying as is saying Zwiefacher out loud in civilised company. People think you’re swearing in German.

F

So I guess I should pull out my tin of McChrstal tonight when I get home, (if i could get that can open) and try to pay attention to it more. Also, I’v seen some people compare the SM 500 to the Red Bull, Why didn’t I think so? maybe because of the texture? or because its not oil based like poschl?

F

I haven’t tried SM 500 or Red Bull but the German snuffs are so different to the British ones. I guess it’s due to the oil versus water thing to a large degree.

F

Any ideas on how to open the round tin cans from UK? they seam to be stuck. Thanks a gain.

F

I got it open. The funny thing is. Its half empty. It looks like I did go for it. At some point

K

If you’re happy with paying Visa or MasterCard, just order here: https://mrsnuff.com/index.php?cPath=110\\_114&sort=2a&page=2

S

To me, there is no stronger menthol blast than Red Bull. I’m a lover of menthol but Red Bull is too much for me. By strong, that is what Poschl are referring to, the menthol/eucalyptus hit, not the nicotine strength which is quite low.

F

So I guess that might be the reason why I like it. Now that you mentioned it. I think the stregnth might be in the feel not in the buzz or scent. I guess. I don’t like when the aroma is over powering. I do have to admit if I go on for to long my skin could start burning under my nose. On the other hand the clogging is another killer. But I still wish I had more. I guess I’ll need to order some. How is the Anis from psocol compared to red bull? Anything to compare?

S

Anis is the one tapbox Poschl I will use occasionally. It’s not bad at all.

F

Very interesting, yesterday I met a guy which snuffs exclusively medicated .99 I asked for a pinch. And had a short chat with him and interestingly had ask for another pinch before we departed. It was pretty tempting. Anyone familiar enough with Red Bull and medicated .99 to compare the two? Any resemblence in strength or aroma? I find that not all menthol have same aroma For example. Wilson of sparrow extra menthol . To me it smells like sperment gum. And I just don’t like it in snuff.

S

I liked 99 but just feel there are nicer medicated snuffs such as l260 and o&g. Wilson’s (same folk who make 99, not to be confused with Wilsons of Sharrow) SP no 1 is very nice. The tobacco base is delightful

F

Sorry, and sp 1 stand for?

S

What SP stands for is a subject of much debate and I’m unsure there’s a conclusive answer. SP is a type of snuff, usually quite plain with a hint of bergamot. There are lots of SPs on the market and some are very popular. I’m snuffing one right now (Gold Label). SP stands for either SPanish or Sheffield Pride. If I remember correctly @Roderick‌ says it is SPanish so that’s what I’m inclined to believe.

F

Before I make a final decision and order more I’d like to mention a few snuffs please. I do understand it all comes down to what I like, It is just that I’m trying to figure that out my self So as mentioned, I recently fell in love with Red bull and since then not so much with the Packard and Gawith Apricot. Now that I ran out of the Red Bull, I started looking back to what I have and tried in the past. And interestingly the Mychystal is something I thought I’m not in too, but found an empty one. Which means I at one point used that more regularly. But now as I keep on checking back to it, nah, not what i’m looking for. Same with F&T old Paris. The tin is empty, and this is not a small can. and amazingly the thing has a few pinches left. The Toque original is a pretty full tin. Also, when I picked up the Red bull i picked up a Wilson & Sharow Extra menthol. But I found that to have more of a spermenty aroma. to much, not the menthol I am used to I guess. So in the last few days of reviewing, I also personally came a cross medicated .99 and that appealed to me and I had to take another pinch before I departed with the person. Interestingly , The SM 500 , I took a pinch this morning and thought i smelled the F&T old Paris but more mentholated. I didn’t hate it. So from researching and reading this is what I came down to, (and of course only trying them will let me know what I like. So the only options is ordering.) So I want to try and and narrow it down a little. From what I was suggested. What it comes down to is, and please correct me if I’m wrong. I’m more of a menthol type snuffer. Interestingly, I mentioned to more then one person that I tried the medicated .99 and they suggested I try the L260 Funny thing is, I look at one of my old invoices and I see that I once ordered it. So here is my list, Red Bull, for sure atleast 4-5 of the bulk pack medicated .99 at least 1 L260 - at least 1 I do want to try something else with eucalyptus with the same idea as red bull, (But maybe water based that I can try and see if it is true that water based doesn’t clog the nose as much .please give me a suggestion? Never tried a schmalzer, which one should I try if I like menthol, / red bull, / Sorry for the long rant, And thanks in advance for your support.

F

I’m wondering if I should also order A Fubar medic?

N

McChrystals O&G is a must try, considered the best menthol snuff by many a snuffer myself included

F

Very interesting, I know I used plenty of it in the passed. I found a empty tin of it. But for some reason at the moment I do not like it. Maybe it needs to air out more before using. Or something.

F

Oh I should mention one of you really got me interested in Zwiefacher. I looked it up and see a lot of good reviews.

S

Friendlyman, if you are obsessed with menthol, but nevertheless want to test a schmalzler, then Zwiefacher is a must try :). Schmalzlers don’t have menthol. This is a mix of a schmalzler and a medicated snuff and it works damn well. However, as expected, the menthol is not as much present as in many pöschl’s products. Give it a try.

K

The product by the competition (Poschl) is Bayern-Prise which is also a snuff-schmalzler hybrid.

F

Dose anyone have a link they can guide me to that can explain the difference or the uniqueness of schmalzer snuffs vs the other snuffs? Unless your in the mood of writing. Thanks.

S

@Kiwi78, I didn’t know Bayern-Prise was a hybrid. Is it similar to Zwiefacher, heavier on menthol or any other ways to compare?

K

@SkeG the Bayern-Prise is being sold as “Brasil with snuff” so you get the Schmalzler flavour with a very minimal amount of menthol through the snuff. I’ve talked to some people who say that they don’t usually want any menthol whatsoever but they can handle that and liked it too. From memory the Zwiefacher is leaning more to the snuff side while the Bayern-Prise is heavier on the Schmalzler. Neither seems to be really 50/50. @Friendlyman the name “Schmalzler” comes from the german word Butterschmalz, Schmalz means lard. Schmalzler is a Bavarian specialty (Bavaria being a federal state of Germany) and is much darker and much coarser than regular snuff, usually based on Brasil tobacco. That Brasil is heavily sauced and fermented which is also quite different from snuff. By German standards snuff is fine, usually flavoured with oils and meant to be “refreshing” as to be taken in relatively small pinches. That’s why almost all Poschl snuffs contain menthol. Bernard on the other hand competes in the “heritage snuffs” and Schmalzler department so you don’t find as many mentholised products in their range. So in the olden days Schmalzler, which is meant to be quite fatty, has been moisturised with butter lard which quickly turned rancid. Nowadays that doesn’t happen anymore. So Schmalzler is a distinctly South German tradition while the tobacco itself is pre-fermented in Brasil, spun into large leather parcels called mangotes and then imported into Germany to be treated further with additional processing, fermentation and sauces. Ultimately the Schmalzler has a particular flavour that comes from the production process, which is hard to describe until you’ve tried it for yourself. For me the best examples are Poschl’s “Perlesreuter” and Bernard’s “doppelt-fermentiert” with Bernard’s “Aecht Alt-bayrischer Fresko” and Poschl’s Doppelaroma (apple flavoured) closely following. Sternecker’s is very popular around here but I haven’t tried it yet.

F

Thanks. I’ll defiantly order at least one. To see what were talking about.

M

@Friendlyman: You won’t regret it, but maybe you’ll find (like I did) that you prefer to snuff it inside, measuring it by grams instead of pinches and with a handkerchief in hand. Intoxicating experience.

F

Hi guys, So this is in my Shopping cart so far. Anyone in the US have any experience with anyone besides MrSunff? Anyone cheaper that ships yo the US? or that is the way to go? Not that I’m not happy with his site. I’m just asking as to educate my self. Bernard Zwiefacher 10g Poschl Bayern Prise Brasil 10g Bernard Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert 10g Poschl Red Bull Aromatic 10g Sachet J & H Wilsons Medicated 99 5g Contemplating, on the Hedges L260 20g since I’m getting the Red Bull and the medicated .99 Also, I thought ozona/poschl had a Anis snuff. I like the smell of Anis. Which one should I get from all the brands? Should I get one with just Ains or one together with eucalyptus. And maybe it should be a brand I never tried before something diffeent than poschl? that dosdnt stuff so much. How is ?** Dholakia Aniseed 10g or Gawith Hoggarth Aniseed or Arnold Andre Edelprise Extra 10g**

K

Well…Poschl’s Lowenprise gets pretty close to Aniseed but it’s more on the liquorice side at that. Edelprise Extra is pretty good.

F

I don’t know why Edelprise Extra comes up when I searched Anis on Mrsnuff I dont see a word mentioned about it on the site.

C

For my particular, personal olfactory system Red Bull is fabulous. For about 60 seconds. Then the menthol crystals clog me up like a constipated poodle, and there’s not a damn thing to do about it but wait. And wait. And wait. Until the menthol goes about its merry way. About the only snuff maker around that makes a menthol enhanced snuff is Nigel at Abraxas. He is to snuff what Greg Pease is to pipe weed: The Dark Lord. Most others make a menthol snuff, with the emphasis on the menthol. Some love it, and I used to be one of them with the dearly departed Dr. Rumney’s Mentholyptus. With advanced age and a few hundred kilos of snuff disappearing into my face, I’ve developed an almost allergic reaction to menthol. Eucalyptus and Camphor make a nice substitute for sinus clearing without the nasty side effects. Of course YMMV. If the stuff wasn’t wonderful to a vast majority there wouldn’t be so many menthol/medicated snuffs on the market. If they ceased to exist, so would Germany.

P

For me, I think it’s not the menthol, but the oils used. Or maybe some other secret ingredient. I can take O&G without event, (ok, maybe a bit of sneezing) but a pinch of _any_ Poschl clogs me tight in a pinch. The same with many Indian snuffs that are moistened with oils. I avoid oiled snuffs. After much experimentation, I’m pretty confident it’s the oils… I surely wish I could pinch some Poschl President. It was my first pinch and I still remember the scent and effect. But I enjoy breathing through my nose.

W

The body can be strange when it comes to allergies. As @chefdaniel‌ said he used to be okay with menthol but now it wreaks havoc with his nose. As a teenager I used to have to get shots weekly cause mine were so bad, especially during pollen season. As time went on they subsided and now it does not bother me at all. I enjoy menthol snuffs but I too don’t like to use too much of them. Menthol is indeed like a spice and some snuffs go way overboard on them but that too is like super hot wings, they are nice once in a while. If Dragun Menthol were not labeled menthol I would never have known it was in it upon my first time trying it. The way it is used in this snuff is beautifully done. Very subtle and brings out notes not evident in the original. So I plan on snuffing all the Dynamite, L260, Red Bull, ect. ect. while I can because at some point down the road my sinus’ may rebel and no allow me this pleasure.

D

Menthol snuffs :-& OK so thats just me I know. So may great snuffs out there… give them all a go if you can. Menthol is good if I have a severely blocked nose and cant take Lundy foot I guess Edit … Ok had to try some Red Bull after writing that and it aint all bad! Dam it, its like floral to me, hate it one day , enjoy it the next guess I would not be without a good menthol in my collection … I need to get it out of that plastic tap box though

K

Well…I know there are a few tap box haters here but for one, Pöschl snuff isn’t water based so because of the oils it shouldn’t dry out that fast. Especially since their tap boxes aren’t usually holding more than 7-10g. The other thing is that snuff used to be a staple for coal miners so a tap box meant and still means that any sweat or dirt from the fingers doesn’t contaminate the snuff when taking a pinch from a tin. So I’m very happy with that concept. That being said, I have thrown my boxes of Gawith Tia Maria and Lavender Dark in the rubbish because the snuff was too dry and useless. The difference between oil moisture and water moisture I suppose. Tap boxes work for some snuffs and not for others. I like them.

D

@Kiwi78‌ Thats a very good point … my poor experiances with tap boxes have been with Gawith, not snuff with oils … On the Pöschl Gletscher Prise now… Just to make sure the tap box is holding up there… seems so …

F

The only downside I see with the tap box is that, I like to tap it in to my palm and pinch it out of my hand. I find that at times if I tap out a little to much for one sniffing session I just take a good pinch and the rest I brush off with my other hand. Its a little waste, but it ads up. I’m not really concerned about it. Because that how I like it. One of the pros is that it is easier to be descret with it. I fee that with a tin besides it being clumsy in the pocket it also takes more time. You usually need to tap it. Make sure it doesn’t spill etc… But on the other hand, taking a pinch from a tin is very attractive something about it. Besides able to control more less how much to take. And then there is different opinions and feelings about it.

J

I love Red Bull! I would not consider pinching it myself but it is available in bulk for you to put in a box if you like. You will enjoy sampling other menthols and may even find another you like as much. Just be sure to have enough Red Bull on hand. p.s. no reason to throw dry snuffs out in that they can easily be rehydrated.

F

@Juxtaposer‌ I’m not sure who responding to about Tue dry snuff? Thanks for the tip on the red bull I just placed a nice order @MrSnuff‌ I posted the list in what’s in your mailbox #4 thread. Ill keep you all posted as I try them as they are all new to me besides the red bull .

Ok, these guys at the USPS know how to work peoples nerves. I was going to give them a five star rating for a change. And they had to mess with me. Since I live in a big city and we have a big USPS sorting faculty. Usually by the time it reaches there you know the next stop is your local Post office. So this morning I wake up and see a text that it reached the local faculty. Then I get a text message that it left the faculty. So I was sure it is going to be by my post office for pick up after 11 when they finish with the PO boxes. I get no more text message. So I’m thinking maybe the local guys didn’t bother scanning it. maybe they just wanted to finish with the boxes. So after 1PM I walk over to the post office to check. And guess what, as I stand online I get a text message from USPS at 1:21 that it arrived to kearney NJ and 1:46 I get a message that it left Kearny NJ . So now lets see if it go’s back to the main hub? or it arrives to my local PO before five. I could wait, but I’m looking forward to getting it like a kid in a candy store. And I hate waiting but I guess either way I’m lucky even if arrives tomorrow. By the way: For those that don’t know And maybe this should be separate a sticky post. When you expect a package to the USA using Royal Mail Airsure, It seems that you can track it on the Royal mail site and you will only see the scan updates until it lands on US soil. After that you go to the USPS site and use the same tracking number and it will give you all the updated scans. (I think I also tried to track it from the USPS site right away when I got the tracking number even before it was shipped and it gave me the same info as the Royal mail site. That it is ready to be shipped internationally.) Anther good thing if you don’t know yet On the USPS site, on the tracking page you can set up to receive Text to your phone or email. Of every scan, in the USA up to like 11 scans, so you don’t have to go on there every day or get the tracking # again etc…

F

Ok, now I don’t want to jump to conclusions and get all worked up. But I do not like how this is looking. From after 1: pm until after 11:pm I got four scans in Kearney NJ one that it entered and three that it left. And that is the last scan. I did some googling and I see this is a comon accurance with overseases packages. From what I understand ISC is where customs takes place. Is that correct? Which is at JFK And from there it went to Brooklyn. Where it should have gone. Then to Kearny and now no scan. It could of been out for delivery yesterday from the time it had the scan out of Brooklyn. Like five in the morning. What are they doing to these parcels? Taking them for a tour? The posts online are horrible about people waiting for oversease packed for weeks after seeing all the scans like Iam seeing. But I’m going to see what happens not panicking yet I guess if they deliver it to soon they are afraid another time I’ll expect to much from them. just venting. Thanks for reading

F

Ok, now I’m starting to get a little impatient. If it was scanned in NJ before mid night last night it had plenty of time to arrive to the sorting faculty and my local po. No scan at all. So I did some calling and they all say its on its way. Dosnt make any sense to me at all.

F

Hi Guys, It has arrived. 7 days. after all not bad at all.

M

I recommend Toque Camphor and Clove. I just received a 25g tin of it, and I was very impressed with the freshness, the scenting, and the fact that it had no menthol, but still gave my head a jolt of vapor-like coolness. I almost od’d on it in the first hour I had it on my table in front of me. A very distinct one, different from O&G, Hedges, etc. but still cooling and head clearing.
