Recommendations on Best Schmalzers from our Senior Members / Veteran Snuffers

It’s great fun reading reviews here and on MS, also quite informative, but would be easier if it were in one thread. I am sure other newbies ( besides myself ) would appreciate if our Senior Members/ Veteran Snuffers can respond and post with the 10 Best Schmalzers currently available on MS…PLEASE could u kindly list snuff name and 2 or 3 words or short sentence describing flavor. Thanks…after seeing responses… Us newbies can make great choices

I haven’t met a Schmalzler I did not like.

Are there really more than ten?

Ten of the Bernard’s

@Juxtaposer there are eleven, not counting Bernard’s three newest (Weihnachtspris, Regensburger Pris, Magic Moments black) which I am not sure if these are proper schmalzlers or more like halb-schmalzers of some kind; I’ve not tried them yet. From what I’ve heard they are flavored strongly. Anyway a brief synopsis cut from my own reviews of the basic 11 ones for the OP: BERNARD -Aecht Altbayrischer Schmalzler: sweeter, less smokey than the Brasil. Gritty. -Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert: Bernard’s flagship product, very rich full bodied, soft, sweet but not as sweet as AAB. -Brasil Feinst Schmalzer: less sweet than the Doppel, smokey, earthy-peaty, more subtle flavors. -Brasil Fresco Schmalzler: less sweet- almost no sweetness, very gritty somewhat finer, a lot of tobacco flavor, not the best for a novice, but a good one to see where schmalzer is like in a more natural sense. PÖSCHL -Perlesreuter Walder-Fresko: least sweet of the 4 Pöschls, gritty-oily, nutty-woody scent. Somewhat smokey like Bernard or Sternecker -Schmalzler “A”: rich, moderatley sweet, sweeter than Bernards, not too grtitty -Schmalzler “D” Dopplearoma: very sweet, fruity, much like “A” but double sweet -Südfrucht Dopplearoma: extremely sweet, “The Banana-Bomb”, strong banana, tropical scent. Almost candylike. STERNECKER -Straubinger Schmalzler: no added sweetness, just fermented sweetness, simple, straightforward. Moist and rich. -Fresko: only slightly sweet, woody, nutty, a little smokey, light and fluffy. -Echt Fresko: sweet, but nothing like the Pöschl sweetness, very flavorful, fruity.

Alot more usefull than my post. For what its worth, Bernard Klostermischung is my favorite. I decline reviewing anything, as i stink at it, but that is a good snuff.

@Xander…thanks so much for that review…it will help make my next order easier…I just got cafe 11 in my latest shipment and that was based upon reviews… boy were they right… top shelf…on the way are SWS ( all 3 ) and other Abraxas products… cant wait on those…I Havent tried a schmalzer yet … appreciate you moving that duplicate post…didn’t notice I put it wrong place till to late…THANKS A BUNCH for the time you took!

no problem. That’s what we’re for.

i have tried Bernard altbaperisher: liquerish Poschl perlesreuter: only coffee like deep scent Doppleraroma D: fruity on perlesreuter base so i don’t understand why it is more expensive than dopleraroma D

@linguist…thanks gonna add that altaperisher to my next order…certainly gonna go with the 11 mentioned plus gonna wait see if this thread builds… Thanks every1

He means Aecht Altbayrischer from Bernard. Its in my list. That’s really all of them. However, you can’t go wrong with any of Bernard’s products, even the non-schmalzlers. A couple of my favs are: Alt Offenbacher Köstlich and Gekachelter Virginie Dunkel, but they’re all great!

writing german words are difficult for me. The correct one is on the pic

and i want to add that it lasts less than 2 days. (if i go out only with it i take 5-7 grams daily)

That’s the one. I agree that the 10g boxes are way too small for schmalzler.

Got my order in fellas … Went with everyone suggested on this thread … Thanks

Bernard’s Brasil Doppelt

Of all the schmalzers I have tried, Poschl makes the best. Get them all if you can.

I think my preference would Sternecker first, then Bernard and then Poeschl.
