Recommendations for a newbies preference

Am a newbie relative to core members (have been snuffing casually / socially for a few years) but have only recently amassed a horde of varieties. I love them all for different reasons / circumstances, but am outright hooked on Viking Dark and Brown. Their coarseness and natural flavours are currently my foremost preference. So… I’d appreciate any suggestions or further recommendations by more experienced members. Thanks! Edit: appologies if this is not in the correct forum. I did read the initial Viking thread, but it hasn’t been updated since 2013. I can transfer it to that if that is the eticate.

Viking is made by Samuel Gawith and they have plenty of grinds similar to the Viking  line. You may enjoy Scotch Black,Black Rappee. Both Plain tobacco snuff. a scented variety Lavender dark, Peppermint dark, Menthol dark. Elmo’s Reserve, Firedance,Celtic Talisman amongst others you may enjoy.

If you like Viking Dark, I would add to the above recommendations some of the darker, pure tobacco German snuffs such as:

Bernard Gekachelter Virginie
Bernard Alt Offenbacher Kostlich

@basement_shaman Oh, so it is true then - Viking are a SG rebrand. Thanks for recommendations - I’ll give them all a whirl in time. First Scotch Black and Black Rappee, although Lavender Dark & Peppermint Dark sound equally appealing, as I adore the Toque equivalents. @chalimacos Thanks for the Bernard recommendations. I have a whole bunch of Bernards coming in the post, and now wish I’d included Gekachelter Virginie and Alt Offenbacher Kostlich. Will be sure to chuck them in the basket next week though! Thanks again.

SG Lavender Dark is my favorite of the various makers’ lavender snuffs.

@Mouse I imagine it makes for a perfect late evening / nightcap. I used Toques Lavender or Jasmine for that purpose, at least until McC’s Clove stole the show. This new hobby is so interesting and so indulgent, yet SO cost effective. It almost feels to good to be true! Thanks again, all, for enrichening my nasal cavities with such unsung divinities…

A few years back SG  silky dark someone peeled the label off of a viking dark tin and there it was. More comments here: http://snuffhouse.com/discussion/8386/sam-gawith-silky-dark.  You may want to try SG KB Plain said to be like Viking  Brown.Snuff Store Black magic is supposable like VD. Oh, I never had any Jaxons also made by SG although I don’t see it for sale at MS anymore .

An interesting, yet perplexing thread there! Thanks for the heads up @basement_shaman

Anything by toque is a great place for newbies imho

@snuff_it_up - Agreed! I’ve around around 20, and genuinely love them all. Have a few Toque USA’S coming in the post, too. I’ve increasingly found myself using them as a first thing / last thing pinch, now, despite knowing that I really do have a Toque for every occasion.

@Nulliverze for superb complexity try and get some of the Old Mill! Chef Dan makes fantastic snuffs in a wide variety. He should have some new ones up soon also.

@nicmizer thanks for reminding me - I keep reading about this very highly regarded Old Mill Snuff, but haven’t yet tried it yet due to UK sellers not stocking it (and not being able to access snuff.me via phone). Can you recommend a source?

@Nulliverse just go to the “Old Mill” snuff web site. I’m pretty sure he ships out anywhere and will take money order and PayPal. Use the gift to a friend feature. Definitely try the Chef Daniel line of artisan snuffs as all are great that I have tried. A+ quality!.

Source directly from crafter of Old Mill. I am pretty sure you will not get it from any supplier @Nulliverse.

Thanks for the info @nicmizer! I will do precisely that, as soon as it’s payday (have already made 5 orders this month).

Old Mill ordering process initiated

Ok, so with my Schmalzlers almost with me, and my Old Mill order almost ready to go… I’m going about exploring today’s arrivals - the SG darks. Good call @basement_shaman! Am absolutely loving them. One thing I’ve not loving, however, is getting the damn things open… Is there a technique to this? I’ve managed the first 4… but with 4 more to go, my fingers / nails are wailing for me to stop X(

coins?

Appologies for the spamming - am unable to edit the above post via my phone. Please ignore the above question. Tin opening method now worked out, and implemented with good effect…

I use the tamper on my pipe tool, slide under lid and pry till the vac seal is released
