Railroad Mills Maccoboy

Railroad Mills Macoboy is an American snuff, but is very different. It is not the usual dry we expect. It is clingy and clogging and maybe has a background Rose flavor. Interesting container and you can’t pinch it from there. Please tell me your experiences.

I don’t know why but it reminds me of wet paint. It’s probably me or just the sample I received.

I have it, but hardly ever use it. To me it smells like Copenhagen. It just doesn’t sit well with me. I prefer Checkerberry.

I’m a fan of it. I agree it has a bit of Copenhagen smell about it, but so do some F&Ts and some Bernards. I think its the fermentation. Its a cousin to Macouba so its not a uniquely American snuff, but it is a significant part of American snuff history. There were many Maccoboys once upon a time, so I’m very glad there is still one being made. If I could only get domestic snuff, I would always have it on hand. Maccoboy shines alone, mainly since it is not a Scotch.

I just cat get into this stuff… Smells like animal dung or something with a horrible tasting drip. Ill revisit down the road im sure but as of now its off my list of good snuffs for a looooooong time.

I love Maccoboy, reminds me of a schmalzler yet it’s got a character of it’s own. I’ve ordered a large bottle of this beauty.

As do I Pieter. Nice change of pace from my usual Standard or Rooster.

Love it! I imagine that rose oil is what keeps it so moist. I’ve had no problems with it drying out in my not so airtight scalloped horn snuff box (buy it now on E-bay). The rose accentuated tobacco scent is mild and distinct. Any snuff being described as “cow dung” smelling is a must try in my book. My only problem is the clumping of this sticky snuff. I plan to splash a little Toque Rose in to remedy this but am in no hurry for changing it. Thanks for another one of a kind snuff.

Nicotinerush gave me a sample, used it in an afternoon, and I loved it so much that I got two bottles. I have used one so far and loved it. I think it has a Copenhagen like scent with a bit of rose. I always loved opening a fresh can of Cope and sniffing it. I always say, “ah Copenhagen the elixir of life.” Well with Macoboy I get the scent of Cope I love and it does not take your head off like Cope does when snuffed.

I guess I am the odd one here. First, I can not stand the smell of Cope! That to me smells like animal dung! Secondly, I love Maccoboy and this does NOT resemble Cope to me. It smells like a real rose that has sat in a vase for about 3 days. An earthy, decaying rose scent. This is definitely my favorite American snuff. Hard to take and hard to keep in the nose but once it gets there, it is heavenly. BTW - no offense to you dippers, I just personally can not stand the smell of Cope! I will admit at the same time that I’ve never smelled an open can of Cope, just the scent that came through after opening a box containing 10 logs. (used to work in retail).
