Quitting the cigs

R

I kinda wanna quit smoking. No less than that, I wanna quit smoking, but how, what snuffs to use? I currently have WoS honey and menthol, extra menthol, jaxons cherry menthol and english toffee. Which one will help the most? (Ordering more snuffs is out of the question at the moment, bills to pay), so which one has the most nic? I take enormous amounts of jaxons cherry menthol, and it only postpones a cig for 20 minutes. The reason I wanna quit smoking is cause Ive gotten a pretty bad cough lately, and it doesnt seem to go away Q.Q So all you guys who quit smoking, do you have any advice?

B

More frequent pinches. Think of a pinch of snuff like a drag on a cig. Sorta. It takes more than one to reach your desired nic level. I found I had to do repeated pinches until the craving went away. (or just pop in a stronger snus.) Snus was my main cig quit product, snuff was the finishing touch, but I think the most helpful thing was buying a snuffbox. It gave me something to do with my hands instead of playing with my lighter, which when it went away I found I missed. For me the hardest part of quitting cigs wasn’t the nicotine, it was the buying. I had bought a pack or two a day for so many years it was hard to change the habit.

You want to buy viking blonde, it comes in 25 gram tins is infused with air it seems so it’s very very fluffy. You need this because it’s has no scents added and has turned my impossible to take snuffs into fluffy easy snuff as hard as you want snuffs. I can’t even notice a change in flavor at all from it. Passed that point you need strong strong nicotine content ( white elephant, toque quit, F&t high dry toast. ) I wouldn’t ever recommend a beginner these high nicotine fine grain snuffs… But mix in a little viking blonde with the harder to take snuffs and magic! You’ll see why I consider it my favorite snuff.

R

@bigmick thanks for the response, but I can hardly sniff snuff more frequently than I do now. @Cigshurtmylungs‌ Cant buy any more snuffs at the moment, but will keep it in mind. Thanks

I read your financial situation just now. Sorry to hear. Since you’re stuck with what you got do big pinches of the most mentholated snuff you have followed by whatever non-mentholated snuff you have. There’s a reason for this order. The reason being menthol does increase nicotines half life in your brain. You want to make sure you don’t get nose bleeds from too much menthol of course. However remember menthol first then whatever you want second ( in sequence ) it should help.

C

25 years of smoking left me with a pretty bad cough and feeling like a bag of crap every day. I used snus and found it was very effective and it was three days between my fist snus and my last smoke. I don’t know if I would have been able to do it with snuff alone but some have. The “habit” aspect of smoking is a bit tricky but you just have to work through it for the first week or so. Snus can be found for cheap in some areas of the US.

R

@Cigshurtmylungs‌ thats something ill definately try, even just for the pleasure of it. Thanks a bunch.

R

@crullers snus helps me smoke less, but thats as far as it goes. I live in Norway, so I have easy access to all swedish snuses, but prefer not to snus a lot, its not really my cup of tea… Ive smoked since… wait for it, wait for it… since I was 9, and already felt my stamina fall when I was 14. (Used to be a runner in school besides basketball) Wish I could run for ages again without becoming tired after 5 mins.

C

@Rogue Big fat pinches and willpower then. Good luck!

R

@crullers thank you. How long have you been off cigs?

C

@Rogue Almost 3 years to the day. And that was after several failed attempts at quitting with NRT (the patch, nicotine gum, etc.) and cold turkey. Snus stopped it dead for me but now I only take 3 prillas a day on average.

I’m in the same boat as you man. The truth is you have to ask yourself if you’re ready and I’m sure you are. You have to imagine a life without cigs and go from there to snuff. If you start out expecting your body will accept it right away you will fail. ( Telling you this because it’s what I’ve been through and seen ) Once you tell yourself a life without cigs is a life you need you can start enjoying snuff for its true beauty instead of a cigarette replacement. Once we change our psychology the neurons in our brain literally start to change on a scientific level that can be observed and is " real. " You need to change from " I kind of want to quit " to " I know I have to quit for my family, for myself, and for my wallet. " Once we change your thoughts your brain will follow suit. It will start rewarding new actions that aren’t related to cigarettes much more. ( Food, snuff, women etc ) A lot of people start feeling guilty for having the urges and eventually think it will never be like it was before smoking. If you think like this and change your habitual actions to snuff you will eventually become dependent on snuff. This is how the brain works

R

@crullers does the craving ever really end? @Cigshurtmylungs‌ I can only be stunned by the insight and mark your post as such. Thanks a lot man, helps a lot.

Our brains are quite marvelous once we understand how to manipulate them ourselves. You can quit cigs easy or run 10 miles once you do.

R

@Cigshurtmylungs‌ Yeah, our brains are quite the mystermachines. I remember doing some research on nocebo and placebo some years back and found myself absolutely stunned at some of the things that happened simply because said people "expected"it to happen.

C

@Rogue The craving for cigarettes ends but I don’t plan on cutting out nicotine completely.

R

@crullers same. ill just stick to snuff because I enjoy it, and its like aromatherapy with nic. To make something perfect even perfectier(better): Its cheap. 50 gram tobacco here is like 40$, and it only gets more expensive, with snuff I can get 50g for less than 20$, and itll last me even longer. Despite heavy snuffing these days, a 10g tin still lasts a loooooooooong time. In my years of snuffing, ive only finished a few tins, so def a lot to save on snuff… if only my car could run on it…

R

@Roderick Damn, 40 a day. Youre pro, dude. Quittin from that must be rough.

R

@Roderick I got a question, you dont have to answer, just curious. Do you mainly use your own snuffs?

R

@Roderick which toque snuff would you recommend a menthol head and a nicotine junkie?

F

@Rogue i hope nobody minds me jumping in here, but toque menthol is one of my favourite menthols. as for nicotine, go with toque quit (a plain) or maybe add toque rustica. be careful with the rustica though. i stopped smoking regularly with snus, firedrac and toque snuffs, the snuffs just adding that bit extra, the snus was what did the trick.

R

Thank you all for replies and advice. Im not gonna lie, I have smoked a little today, but not much, progressing!

D

Quitting smoking is tough. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone who was successful on their first attempt. I quit smoking about 11 years ago with no nicotine replacement. The hardest part wasn’t so much the nicotine cravings, it was figuring out how to do stuff without a cigarette in my hand. I felt lost for a while. But, eventually I learned how to drive, talk on the phone, have a cup of coffee, etc without a cigarette. Good luck, keep trying and don’t get discouraged if you have an occasional smoke. It’s just part of the process of quitting.

W

The last time I had a cigarette was June 2012 and I managed to quit with snuff and snus. For months afterwards I would still reach for a smoke when I went for a drive so the habit part of it was harder than actual cravings for me. Stay with it and your brain and body will come to wanting snuff more and snuff is a way less demanding mistress.

R

Thanks for the replies, guys. Figured Im gonna do it gradually by reachin for more snuff, less cigs, then allow snuff to take over

J

When I quit cigs, I had something looked phantom limb phenomenon, I could still feel a cigarette between my fingers, even though it wasn’t there.

R

@JakartaBoy‌ damn, thats creepy. Guess its the twin brother of phantom pain.

M

This is a very interesting thread. I found that the nicotine intake of snuff can actually turn my head if overdone. And I used to dip and smoke at the same time. Gradually, I just found I prefer the nose mud. The desire to smoke went away on its own–snuff caused me to quit cigarettes. It wasn’t a conscious decision.

R

@Malatesta thats pretty sweet, I find myself wanting snuff sometimes more than cigs.

J

I lit a pipe the other night and then let it go out and took out my snuff boxes. For me, it made giving up smoking a pretty pain free process.

R

@lunecat those methods have proven to be rather ineffective.

T

I think for some people, myself included, it boils down to a mental way point. I had started young, smoked as much as 3 1/2 packs a day, but leveled out at 2 1/2 packs a day for close to 20 years. One day I decided I felt bad, and had enough. I realized my poor feeling was related physically to my respiration and the smoke - so i quit. Like that. See, I had always also dipped and chewed, so I simply migrated my nicotine delivery to those routes alone. Then I discovered this site, and by extension tried nasal snuff. Now I only dip at baseball games, and that is more for the environment and feel of the game. I know my nicotine level of intake is reduced, and I feel better. I also swear my breathing and “nasal comfort” seems to be better than when I smoked, but cannot prove that is not just psychosomatic. Quitting is a bitch for some folks. If you are struggling, remember something someone told me once in relation to a different habit I was trying to kick : “Small victories. You just keep lining up small victories. And one day you look back and they make a chain of larger ones.” Best of luck to you .

R

I just got nicotine satisfaction from ONE pinch! Which is good if youre a smoker imo. It was a big pinch… huge in fact, was great.
