I find menthols cause my nose to get sore, they also cause me to blow my nose more often and block me up a bit. My right nostril seems to crack inside and become sore. Also my edges of my nostrils also seem to crack especially in winter. I find using plain toasts like irish 22 or HDT, are a lot better as I don’t get blocked up as much, or blow my nose as often and I have a lot less irrigation. SP’s are also good and I use Tom Buck if I want a bit of flavour and they also open up the air ways. My advice would be to use plainer snuff for a while. Once you get used to them, you seem to pick up the aromas of these snuffs a lot more and appreciate them more.

A spot-on notice on menthols, but I assume it can’t get more plain than Moroccan neffa, @beantin. Not sure how alkaline that particular snuff is and which alkalis it contains, but from what I gather it should be quite fine, dry, and rather alkaline. Unpleasant effects might be caused by the abundance of strong alkali, like calcium hydroxide (slaked lime).

@Abdoulaye, would you be interested in exchange of snuffs? I would like to trying some snuff from Maghreb (so far I only had some Maghrebian type snuffs made in Europe - Neffa Ifrikia and Neffa Bledi) and could send you a sample of German snuff in turn. I think I still have one factory-sealed 10 g sachet of Poschl Lowenprise, which I don’t mind parting with.
