Thats not a suggestion by the way. Toque Quit has come up in a couple of threads so I thought I would re-review for any Quit virgins out there. I am looking at a snuff box full of this superb snuff as I write, and it is a rich, dark golden brown. The grind is medium and has the same slightly moist consistency of the standard Toque ‘flour’. The aroma is fairly simple - and at first encounter not that pleasant to be honest. There is a kind of musty, ammonia tang with some sharpness to it and just sniffing it in the container doesn’t seem to hold much hope of it being a good snuff. But it is, it’s possibly a classic snuff - for one sinple reason: it kicks. As I understand it, correct me if I’m wrong here, Quit is made from the Nicotine rich mid-leaves; the foliage without it’s stems and stalks. So there is no dilution from the less potent, more fibrous stalk matter. What you end up with is a snuff of fairly average taste but of magnificent strength. Now, strength is about how much nicotine migrates across the mucosa and into the bloodstream, it is not about nose-burn. We tend to think snuffs like HDT are very strong because you really know about it when you take a pinch; it’s very fine so it gives a lot of burn, but, really, a lot of fine snuffs are no stronger, ounce for ounce, than an SP. The greater surface area makes it an efficient way of delivering the nic. but it doesn’t make it a stronger snuff. Quit is a whole lot different. Take a pinch and you get a slightly tangy, slightly ammonia flavour but no real sense of potency. But give it a couple of minutes and those nicotine levels start to rise and rise. Nictotine by stealth. Unlike the cigarette world, the snuff industry does not have to publish nicotine levels, so most discussions about strength are subjective, but if the day ever comes I would bet this is the strongest commonly available snuff. Try it with caution if you are not too tolerant of nic in high doses. But if you are, and you have not tried this snuff, just enjoy.
Quit, is definately a great snuff, but have a try of 6 Photo Cheeta. Dear God that stuff had me sweating and feeling sick after 1 pinch, and I have a very high tolerance. Quit is definately the strongest English snuff though, in fact I’ll have a pinch now :-). Stefan
Must try 6 photo cheeta. How would you describe it? It sounds like it is the snuff for me.
I agree w/Walrus1985, Cheetah is whip. it is very light like a toast, in texture, but the scent is clearly of the sub-continent … mysterious and spicey. Though I am not practiced enough with snuff to be accurately descriptive, it has a baby powder/floral scent … with indian spices. I mistakenly gave up on Quit too soon and traded it away … it’s grassiness was not appealing to me … should’ve let it season, i am guessing.
Reminds me of sai flora inscense a little bit. cheeta that is. yeahit’s a great snuff. what i take when nothing else works.
Sounds like Kamal.
very diffrent but similar. It’s got a drier scent more earthy.
I was going to get Quit on my last order, it sounds so good. I have to say that White Elephant is the best snuff for strength.
Cheeta is mildly scented, very fine and dry so can be tricky. Kicks like a mule by snuff standards if you can avoid the sneeze fit! Quit is nice once its aired a bit, slight barnyard to it with pleasant tobacco behind it. Also has a hint of crackers to it to my unsophisticated nose.
To my nose, Quit is like Spanish Gem without the honey aroma. I wouldn’t give you a nickle for Indian snuff.
I love Toque’s Quit. It was the first and only bulk purchase I’ve made. I do tend to side with plainer snuffs, but I’m still a snuff-novice, so toasts/scotches can sometimes get away from me. Quit is the best of both worlds. It’s plain, got a great flavor, and there’s some moisture in there making it easier on the nose. I don’t get much of the barnyard scent though. It tastes to me what tobacco in it’s original form should taste like.
Toque Quit was my first bulk purchase too, there’s nothing like a pinch of fresh from the jar Quit.
I can certainly understand why those who prefer plain snuffs would like Quit. For me, snuffing is as much about enjoying the fragrance ingredients as it is about the tobacco. Quit is a quality product and certainly delivers a hefty nicotine jolt, but for my nose, it’s simply a little (or a lot) too plain. It makes an excellent mixer, however.
If its too plain for you try scenting it yourself. I’ve had excellent results with tonka beans and lemon flowers.
Alas, after months w/out an order, i must now order some 6 photo and Toque Quit. Thanks guys.
You can also scent your plain snuff by putting about 2inch of your favourite incense stick in your snuffbox.
Interesting idea with the incense stick, I have some nag champa that I will try with some toque natural.
It will work fine, just leave it in the box, the scent will get stronger. But make sure you don’t stick, the stick up your nose!
@bipolarbear1968 have you ever tried any Indian snuff or 6 photo snuff ?
I think a pinch of kamal in Quit would be good, a version of the incense stick as Kamal smells like incense.
