I couldn’t believe the flimsy container that the 10g of QwS Apricot arrived in ? Compared to the less expensive Wilson and Toque product tins, the QwS container is a joke and I hardly think it will hold up for life of the contents, unless I use it up by end of month.
Z_2K, are you talking about the little black boxes, very small and which can actually be press in an oblong form? If so, I can tell you they are tough little guys!! I have some in use for snuff which I got in bulk and I’ve been using them for months already. They also seal quite well. Only problem for me is they are so small, I can’t get my thick fingers down to the bottom.
I like them fine. I’d prefer metal, but they are pretty good. They do seal well, I agree. I haven’t emptied one yet, but they look like they will make good smash boxes for trades when I do. All the Dholakia come in similar tubs.
Along those same lines, McChrystals should really consider ditching those darn red plastic tins they got. I have tape wrapped around my can of highland ice, and I was carrying the supermint in my pocket the other day and it seems to be leaking. I also think there is a discernible difference in quality between the tins and plastic containers. I got a metal tin of English Menthol and enjoyed it way better than the one in the plastic. So, if your listening McC, find some better plastic dispensers if your gonna use 'em.
@Xander, re: “All the Dholakia come in similar tubs.” Thanks for warning me…
Hmm, I should actually rephrase that. They are all availbale in that style, in 10g and 25g, and maybe the 50g is. But they are also available in bullets, packets (from some outfits), and soon to be in tap out boxes. I don’t know if that applies to all the Dholakia contract labels or just their own brand.
I think they are fine little containers. Never had any issue with them.
I like the dholakia tubs, but they tend to pop open in my pocket while i’m at work. Usually if im doing alot of heavy lifting etc. i think maybe i rest things on my leg about where my pocket lays and it pops em open. with a metal tin worst case scenario is that it gets bent.
I like the Poschl cans, but I had one crack on me the other day.
I’ve been putting mine in ones like these:
yep. A miamimark Special. Available from papermart. Those are very sturdy.
Are tins like that available with snap-on lids anywhere? I have an old Mac Baren tin with a snap-on lid, but it’s frankly getting a bit worn. Inside the lid there is a ring of a rubber-type material to keep the contents nice and fresh. Mac Baren doesn’t sell those tins anymore, so I’m at a loss.
The work fine for me, but all containers from any snuff stay at home anyway. Any snuff I bring with me always gets put in a silver snuff box or a pc snuff box.
All my QWS flavors have taken on a plastic taste in the last week or so…could be the ‘tin’ I’m afraid.
I have a bunch of the QWS snuffs for a long while now, and they are all fine to me.
carol where did you get those?
@ Carol, your link only takes one to the top of this page. I’ll see if I can make it work for you Paper Mart
Hmm…I’ll have to move them to other containers. Hopefully it’s just in my head On a side note, I LOVE the sandalwood!
@hoss re: “All my QWS flavors have taken on a plastic taste in the last week or so…” I had a sample of Checkerberry in a plastic smash-box, and it imparted that Wintergreen ‘essence’ into the plastic such that, when I cleaned it out it still smelled of Checkerberry. I then put some Bruton’s Plain scotch in it and Bruton’s took on the Wintergreen essence as well. Not bad, really, but I’m afraid THAT smash box is only going to get plain scotches in it which I want to impart a Wintergreen flavor to.
sparrow cool in a empty sandalwood qws box is amazing.
Speaking of containers, how hard is it to refill one of the Samuel Gawith tap tins? I’m thinking I should use actual tobacco containers in public, to avoid possible police harassment.
@Carol: Its quite easy to refill SG containers. They come apart just like poschl tap boxes, just use a fingernail to wedge the top part off the bottom part, and then lift off.
Ah cool. This is the first tap box I’ve seen. I haven’t tried any of the poschl’s yet. So many snuffs, so little cash at the moment.
