I am a pipe tobacco smoker. When i order like 1/2 of a pound of pipe tobacco or more I jar it for storage, for most of my daily smoking I just leave it ion the tins or tin a small amount to carry about. Now that i am getting into sniffing snuff and liking it a lot. Just wondering if it is better to jar my snuff ( in glass ) for longer life or just keep them in the tins. So tins or glass jars? Thanks for your help, and any other tips n` tricks that you may have for me.

Ahh as many answers as there are users I think Personally 15g or less I leave in their tins if they are a twist top tin with a decent seal (such as Rodericks) and shovel in a days worth from that into my box, tap boxes I empty into my used Toque tins, lager amounts I decant into glass kilner jars… I store all these currently in a cool dark cupboard, but investigating getting a mini fridge.

That what I was thinking, If its like 15 grams or less leave in tins. 25 grams or more glass jar them. I do my pipe tobacco that way 100 grams or less in tins and above 100 grams glass jars.

Tins in jars works well but not with some of the wet snuffs like Princes.

J

Tins in freeze Baggies.

S

Jars for bulk.

You know what (maybe its the climate here in the UK) I see no difference in keeping snuffs in the fridge at all… other than I like to warm them before taking any if they are from the fridge … If its a decent screw top sealed tins it seems just fine stored as is , in a cool dark space is my thinking now … OK so I have all mine together in a sealed plastic container with a small jar of moist cotton wool in there as well… Not sure it that does anything with humidity, but it makes me feel better I do also keep my stronger menthols separately, again not sure it that’s necessary, but as I rarely use them I don’t want to risk flavours mixing… I think the secret is decant a snuff box at a time and don’t keep delving strait into the original tin. 25g and up , yep into a glass kilner jar

Good advice above, I think. Used to buy Stokkers in 2 pound tubs, tightly sealed and taped it kept good for years, 8 to be precise in one case. Forgotten in back of a closet for some reason! I also experimented with vacuum sealing a quantity for storage, to make a long story short … don’t! Climate here is essentially high desert, not too arid as we have the Gunnison and the Colorado joining here in the Valley, so humidity is usually 15-30% in the summer, temps 90-100 in the day and upper 60’s at night, I leave the Toque Natural Toast and the small tins alone, decant the 25 gram tins into tightly closed small tins and anything larger in glass jars. This is working well for me. I mention the temp and humidity because one thing I’ve discovered over the years is that snuff and pipe tobacco change flavor depending on local conditions, for me at least. A lovely Latakia rich tobacco that is excellent in a damper, cooler climate can be remarkably unpleasant in a drier warmer locale. And what tastes good in the desert isn’t necessarily the best choice at altitude ( drier and colder) or someplace like Louisiana (or Saigon for that matter.) As always, JMHO and YMMV! Regards,

The only thing that was good in Saigon was Thuoc Lao and I’m pretty sure it was rustica. The climate in NOLA and Ho City is about the same, but Nawlins had *Picayunes had Ho, no. There’s a damn good reason Perique is so popular in Louisiana. Gotta have something other than an endless glass of Sazerac to survive the summer. *My great uncles and grand father smoked Perique RYO except on Sunday when they’d splurge and buy a pack of Picayunes. If I was a tolerable child I’d get the gratuitous hit or three when the old boys were busy throwing shoes. A paler shade of green does not exist on nature’s palette.
