Puzzled by FUBAR Grunt

G’day all I just got my latest order of snuff, including FUBAR Grunt. From everything I’d read, I expected this snuff to have quite a kick to it. Instead I’ve found it to be pleasant and mild. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience? Cheers

Bland, little to no burn, I was also very disappointed. I find 6 Photo Natural more to my liking than this.

I really like Fubar Grunt but do not find it hard to sniff. When it dries out it can be easy to over sniff but it stored well it is easy to take. I think it has plenty of nicotine though…

I love Grunt, but like Slide I don’t find it very hard to sniff.  I find that if I take it up high, rather than aiming for the nostril, it can kick like a mule.  Its one of the few that really gives me the satisfaction I used to get from smokes.

I also just got mine in and was puzzled at the lack of well, anything, really. I was expecting some sort of musky coconut taste/smell but I am only getting tobacco. That isn’t terrible just not at all what I was expecting from the reviews.

Yeah I was a little disappointed after all the hype about how powerful it is, I guess my tolerance is high, I got a lot better kick and flavor the 6 Photo Natural.

I’m going to try mixing Grunt with a scotch and see if that adds any interest.

I don’t know if it is me or what, but everytime I order grunt it seems to be different each time. My first time it was more mellow than the second and third time I ordered it. Also, the flavor seems to be different each time too…

@ Joshua… I guess it must be the batch, I’m sure tobacco crop vary a bit do to differing factors, weather, climate and such may have an effect on consistency? (purely speculation)

I don’t buy that argument. Pipe tobacco blenders are able to maintain consistency from year to year to a large degree. Also, I doubt that SP Best or Crumbs of Comfort vary wildly from batch to batch, both having been around for a couple hundred years.

I have noticed a variation over the tubs I have ordered. The original was coconutty, the subsequent ones less so. My bulk is what I would describe as cigar scented.

pipe blends use more variety of tobaccos then a snuff typicaly uses. Sp and crumbs both have added scents which covers up the base tobacco scent. I personaly think that is why there are more scented then unscented snuffs presently. Just speculation  but it makes sense to me.

To me there is a big difference in the first version and this version of Grunt. This has a much lighter scent. One that I actually prefer…but in all my reading about Grunt I really didn’t expect it to come in like the 1st run. I was lucky enough to trade for some of the original and I do like it but as I said my preference is for the lighter scent.

I thought of another way to put it. Some wines can be the same every year. Some wines often the fancier wines are diffrent every vintage. Additional GRunt has never been sold or advertised as a scent but as a style of snuff. I don’t think the goal is for the scent but for a particular nicotine strength as well as a consistency. So I think that if scent was the main goal of this snuff the scent might be more consistent, but that’s not how it’s sold it’s sold as a solid nicotine hit which it always delivers.

I just received my Grunt two weeks ago and for some strange reason it has the scent of crushed tea leaves with very little nicotine impact. I plan to store this snuff with a tonka bean and hopefully improve it’s flavor.

I had only two snuff reviews to my name, both were Fubar Grunt, my snuff specialty, self imposed due to being smitten by it. The second review was about how different the batch was from the first, I found the third batch to be closer to the original. I love the original batch, and have the ability to enjoy it often. The batch variations have been a subject of many posts by myself, and some of the popularity of this snuff is more folklore, for which I can take a lot of the blame. I can only imagine what others think of this snuff, since, due to the batches being so uneven, many have never had the effect of the original. I will continue to track all the subsequent batches, although it seems this production batch was quite large.

The plain tobacco nature of this snuff probably has a lot to do with why it is so hard to duplicate over time, although Dave’s revelation of the use of musk has shed some light over the “panties” scent, which I never have associated with it, yet has stuck to it for some while now. To me it is the smell of Fubar Grunt, slight coconut and a rich strong tobacco that provides a sharp “hit” and then mellows into a great tobacco fade.I have indulged my preference for coconut in snuff by a steady and lovely use of WoW coconut toffee, same base tobacco with amplified flavoring. BTW,  I have never let on that I think that  R&R and Medic are one of my least favorite snuffs, period. Something wrong with both of them as far a a pleasant snuff is concerned.

I find the perception a snuff presents is as unique as the persons who try them, this is one of the interesting things about snuff, that, and the ability to compare notes by way of the forum.

I have 25g of grunt that I’ve been disappointed in since I got it.  The first thing I get out of it is a coconut scent and a little burn then nothing.  Maybe a bit of a muskiness to it but nothing after that.  Nic hit is pretty nice but I like shot of rum waaaaaay more than I like grunt.

the one thing I think this snuff has that is exceptional is the drip. It’s quite good. The rest, well not much here compels. I like 6 Photo Natural better for a similar, but more potent experience.

I’ve always liked the cigar-ish tobacco scent that F.U.B.A.R. Grunt has.

Same here Juxtaposer, don’t notice much in the way of coconut or musk in the 10gm sample I just received but I’ve just started to get into it; the cigar flavor comes through, though. I’ll attack it this morning with a clean nose and see if I can detect anything other than stogie.
