Putting Fruit In Your Snuff

I like to sniff my SG Apple on a regular basis, however between having a beat up tin that does not seem to seal tight enough and perhaps leaving it in my car in the sun, I feel like that fresh crisp apple flavor is gone. I hydrated the tin over night once before and it definantly helped with the moisture, but some of the flavor was gone too, so I don’t want to do that again. Instead I figured I should add some apple skins or peels to the tin, the moisture and the flavor should theoretically make the snuff wonderful again. I know some people are fond of the tonquin bean hydration method, so I figured that this wasn’t really much different; however I don’t want any unexpected bad consequences from adding apple peels to the tin; I have never had snuff go moldy, but I know a few on here have, and if apple peels will make the snuff go moldy then forget about it. So if anyone has had any expierences with putting fruit or fruit substances in their snuff let me know how it has worked out.

I commonly used apple slices or potatoe for my RYO. I never had them go moldy, but they were used up before they had a chance i warrent.

PS as of today, 2months cigarette free.

I’ve had an apple slice turn my ryo moldy after just 1-2 days, at first it actually upped the moisture content to more than a desireable level. I’d say you’re rolling the dice on it, maybe just try it on part of your batch first- also I wouldn’t expect to get much aroma from natural apple. Just my two cent’s, good luck!

Forget about it. I can’t believe your not treating your snuff like it was gold. Leaving it in a car! Shame on you. You deserve that not so wonderful snuff. Just kidding, but not really.

I guess i’ll skip on this unless somone pipes up that its worked for them. @Juxtaposer you can’t blame me for leaving it in the car, I was gonna get it later XD Never have I ever lost a tin or let it go to waste, I do indeed show appreciation for my snuff.

A few of us have a jars with leftovers thrown in. Usually the last few pinches of a box or from a tin that have dried out or simply tossed in for want of something more fresh. Perhaps it is time for you to start one of these collections. In my experience, the muddled scents of the leftover snuff can be enlightened by adding a bit of fresh snuff to them. But just do this for a days worth or so because after a few days the majority scent will regain its dominance. I have a few such jars (tins), one for SP’s one for Rappee’s etc… This will also give you an excuse to snuff good fresh snuff instead of something that you are using because you don’t want to waste it. After all, the appeal of gold does not rely on freshness as snuff does.

Otter. Fresh.

The anal glands?

Its pretty common to put a piece of apple or carrot in a tin to give it some moisture. This they did even in the old days I’m led to understand. I’ve done both; neither give any flavor, but they get all shriveled with the moisture sucked out of them. Tonka beans of course (rehydrate the dried ones by soaking them first) will give flavor and moisture.

I think I’ve seen discs made of bisqueware(sp?) which is clay that’s only fired once instead of twice. The reason is that it absorbs lots of moisture, and you can soak one in water and then put it in your tin (or pouch), without introducing extra sugars, microbes, etc, which can encouage mold etc. Can’t recall who sold them, but if anyone’s in the ceramic biz. they can make this usefull item easily.
