Proper technique

Who would have though? Snuff for sniffing? Oh, right, take a pimch and just sniff it up… Oh no, far from it… Right, the reason for my post is I was just wondering what would the ‘proper’ technique for sniffing snuff be? I recently got my shipment of snuff (Toque Toffee, Vanillia, Peanut Butter, J&H SP No1, GH Ambassador, Almond, WoS Apricot and McChrystals Raspberry. Yes, I did go over-board) and I’m loving every moment of using them. I’m not having the problem with being blocked up anymore, well apart from having a cold currently. However due to being a beginner I have noticed that when I do take some of my new found stash, due to them being dry, I cant help but notices that sometimes they hit the back of my throat making me cough or whenever I clear my throat, it is lined with snuff even if it hasn’t hit the back of my throat… So, what is the ‘proper’ technique?

Start out small and use a little snuff often, if snuff is regularly hitting the back of your throat you inhaling to hard or to long - dont worry, your own personal technique will come in time then it will become second nature.

The “search” feature on this forum works very well and would yield you many threads about this topic. Believe me, you are not the first to inquire about proper technique. The fact is, the “proper technique” really depends on the particular snuff as much as it does personal preference. This “How-to” thread is a good place to start. There are also several demonstrative videos on YouTube that show the various techniques. How to use snuff?

Its such a regular question that the best thing to do is use the search facility - most of us have posted articles at some time or other.

Oh sh**! I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time.

I tend to use a different technique depending on what I’m snuffing - the moist coarse ones like some of the Bernards I take a pinch between the thumb and forefinger and take it to each nostril. For the dryer finer snuffs I put a bit on the back of my hand (the ‘anatomical snuffbox’) and take it from there.

Mine is the EXACT opposite of trowza, pinch the dry between the fingers and snuff the moist and coarse off the hand.

I pinch everyhting. For me its just the best way; you can control the amount and its very discreet if you need it to be. I can take a pinch in an office meeting so quick that no one notices. My friends old Grandma used to walk around with a pinch in her fingers the whole time whatever chores or what not she was doing. She would take the pinch and just replace it with another between her fingers and carry on.

@Snuffster. I say, how on earth did she manage to do chores with a pinch between her fingers? Or was it nder her finger nail? Supposing she had long ones at that.

Hi Snuffin, well it was just a knack she had. There was always a pinch there ready to be taken. She would hold it for ages as she did whatever; washing, housework etc. Pretty unique I guess but obviously she was so well practised over the years that it became natural.

Hehehe, reminds me of Sergeant Shadwell from Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens, who always had RYO, papers and matches in hand, but was never actually seen rolling a smoke, just made them appear…

I’m going to try that Grandma method. I have done it once or twice unintentionally and I must say it is awesome walking around doing this and that knowing you have a pinch coming at the drop of a hat.

Yeah, Ive tried it and it is quite good,

when i pinch that is how i tend to do it. not as long but hold it for a while.

well. I don’t think there are a proper technique to snuffing, every person can find they’re own way along time
