My favourite drink of all time is a properly-made Sazerac, and ever since I started taking snuff this year I’ve dreamed of a snuff version of this cocktail. American members will probably know the drink but British ones (like me!) maybe not. It’s the best drink of all time. The basic ingredients: rye whiskey, Peychaud’s bitters (aniseed, botanicals/florals), a trace of absinthe “washed” round the glass, a twist of lemon peel, sugar, water. In the absence of proper snuff makers to make a wonderful snuff from these flavours (@Roderick, @Johnny ? pleeease!) I wonder if some of you could help me find the best snuffs I may be able to mix to make… The Snuzzerac. Toque make a fine absinthe snuff, and being the kind of person who asks for £60 bottles of absinthe from France for Xmas, my opinion is they hit it bang on. This is a good start! The rye whiskey seems to be more of a challenge. Is there a whiskey/whisky-based snuff that isn’t smokey or peaty? I read that Toque Bourbon contains a fair bit of smokiness and this isn’t right for a Sazerac at all. Ditto Whisky and Honey I assume? Not tried either. Any other contenders for non-smokey whiskey? I dare not ask for actually rye, I suppose. Lemon - it’s peel rather than lemon juice, which is very different. McChrystals Mild Lemon? Or something better? The Peychaud’s bitters are a mix of a lot of things, some not documented. I’m wondering if the tiniest dash of SWS Field of Junipers might help, although juniper is entirely wrong for a Sazerac. I have no idea how to get a dash of bittery botanical rootiness in there. To be honest I am hoping Toque Absinthe may cover it but I must go downstairs and have another sniff! Any other “botanical” snuffs with a pure scent? To sweeten this rather long post, for anyone who hasn’t had a Sazerac, I leave you with this video which I think will probably make you want to have one. It did me the moment I saw it. (Edit: I completely forgot that the video in this amazing bartender’s series with a poem isn’t the Sazerac but the Mint Julep. See that one at the second link below, and if anyone wants to suggest mint julep snuff ingredients too, feel free! I’m already beginning to imagine a series of cocktail-inspired snuffs…). Thanks @lunecat. Just received some Mull of Oa yesterday and it’s superb (really - going to post about it later!) but very much not a Sazerac whisk(e)y - masses of peat like a Lagavulin as you say (or an Ardberg, which is my guess). The whiskey in a Sazerac has no peat and it would make a huge difference to the taste. I read that Toque Bourbon is smokey too?

I hadn’t thought of that (duh) and may try that too, thanks! I suppose I am interested in blending too to see if I can get close…
