Problems at The Snuff Store ?

I went to The Snuff Stores site and every thing is coming up 0, does anyone know what’s going on?

I’m guessing this:

Urgent Notice 22/02/12
We are still currently unable to accept payment via credit or debit card. Please
Do Not Attempt To Use The Card Payment Processor
it has not yet been activated.
We hope to be able to accept payment via card again as soon as ‘compliance’ checks
have been completed. If you’d prefer to pay via cheque or bank transfer in the mean
time, please contact us via the contact us page. Thank you for your understanding.

It would be nice if Tim or Julia would explain a bit more.

I just did a mock checkout, won’t let me do a thing. Once again, would be nice to have the shop owners chime in. I should take those odds to Vegas.

And I saw this:

Many apologies, we do not have the ability to sell nor ship to the United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for customers using credit / debit cards.

I love paying with bank transfers.  I work for a bank so i get them for free =D

Hello All,

Snuff Store had a visit and ‘test’ purchase made on our site by one of the two main companies that you might see an image of on your card. The end result ‘shock horror’ is that they discovered the snuff is a tobacco product and therefore forced our processor to close our account. Basically they gave us 5 days notice.

I would imagine that they are going down the search results in Google and have just got to us first. I would be surprised if this hasn’t hit all online retailers within the next few weeks.

Tobacco has been reclassified as a high risk of fraud product (along with several other products unrelated to our hobby) and we have been told that we need to open a level 1 fraud protection merchant account. I read in to this that they just want to increase their commission rate, but that’s a different story!

We have an alternative ‘level 1 anti fraud processor’ now in place, we are waiting for our account to pass ‘compliance’ and we will be live again. We did try to stick with a UK bank, but basically no UK bank will now deal with online tobacco sales and are looking to close the accounts of real world shops and online shops that currently do have them.

As an alternative method of payment, we can of course accept electronic bank transfers and cheques and have had many customers take us up on this payment method this week.

It would appear that this is just the latest action in an on-going ‘attack’ of our hobby by the tobacco facists. We launched Snuff Store due to the lack of choice and availabilty to us as snuff takers in our own area.

It would appear that shortly no online processor will allow European companies to sell to the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. If you live in one of those countries, we can still serve your snuff needs via electronic bank transfer or cheque.

Of course, snuff being such a small, niche and low profit product, we need your support during this difficult time to ensure that the business that we set up back in 2007 due to us not being able to obtain snuff locally continues to be viable.

Please stick with us and support us through this tough time. Send Julia an email on admin@snuffstore.co.uk to sort out how to pay via electronic bank transfer or cheque.

Yours in snuff.

Tim
Snuff Store

I hope this hasn’t unduly altered your cash flow Tim. All the best with getting that sorted and thanks for the update, on behalf of everyone and myself.

@Snuffster
Seriously, I can’t see how this couldn’t affect their cashflow. Credit card payment is the preferred method of payment for the vast majority of customers.  It is something everyone should be highly concerned about. And if Tim is right about the other Snuff retailers it’s even worse.

@NoseBag I never used Bank transfers and I don’t know how they work. Tim, why don’t you explain the procedure in this very thread instead of replying to everyone individually?

Thing is , most banks i know charge quite the fee for bank transfers. International transactions are even more over the top , i’ve seen 20% in some cases. And then there’s the issue of time , bank transfers take at least a day domestically and around three for international orders. And that’s working days, no chance of it shoving trough on weekends.

May have to look at Western Union or MoneyGram as well.

What other options are there?

I can tell you off the bat paypal ain’t one. They refuse to deal with anything tobacco related. Moneybookers seem to have the same policy. BitCoins ?

If i didn’t consider ramen noodles to be a delicacy I would haul my ass all the way over to Roderick’s doorstep and personally exchange my money for some snuff and shake the man’s hand while I’m at it. Apologies for the double posting but vanilla’s throwing a fit and won’t accept comments longer than two lines.

Epoch or InstaBill? Instabill cater to tobacco merchants but class it as high-risk. This isn’t my area so I’ll leave it to the pro’s

I just checked on my banks international transaction fee, it is 8% of total purchase.  :frowning:

Green dot refills could be another option

@kebAMP - it was just an expression of support, I’m sure you are right.

Good luck Tim. We’re all in this together.

Thank god we have this forum to communicate. @Snuffster Thank you for making this possible.
@NoseBag I wish you the best of luck, we are all here to support you and will do what ever we can as consumers to make this work out.
@Dogwalla since you work at a bank you must be knowledgeable in other payment methods. Everyone else is just pointing out names of transaction services that I don’t know a thing about, any advice you can give would be well appreciated by all of us.

“Tobacco has been reclassified as a high risk of fraud product”
Which fascist organization is behind all of this? Is it the UK Government? US? Banks? Credit card companies? I am really conused and scared.

@Vito455 I may work at a bank, but I’m the wrong guy to talk to.  I do photography, print, and television media design.  In other words, I’m just an artist with a title.  Now if you need a review of the Wacom Cintiq 24HD, I’m your man.

I’ve asked about this before, has anyone from the US used zoom.com to buy snuff? It’s looks like they would charge me a $5 fee for the service. Then I would just have to email the supplier and make sure that they have a compatible bank, with zoom, and their bank account info. How about it @NoseBag or anyone else?

I remember reading this thread a little while back. I have just requested information from WePay. It is a company similar to PayPal in function. I have lost respect for PayPal since they showed their dislike for children, Alzheimer’s patients, and Tsunami victims.  Once I hear something back, I will let you know. I know that the issue has been resolved somewhat, but I would be interested in having a more streamlined approach to purchase.
