Since a moment already I read some different historical topics on snuff in the web.Yesterday a fact were calling me.Jean Nicot brings by Spain snuff in France. In a first time for the court(1660) after for poor people in chew and snuff;Everyone use the precious powder on 100 years.

With the art of snuff everywhere in the country arrives places of discussions and spirit interests.time of the “lights” and intellectual progression.

Only 129 years after, french revolution(1789) where snuff were very present(few after snuff deasapeare by laws),I don’t talk of the tea party in America period of snuff too.

Could a product of mind comfort  can brings reflexion on itself and change History? Possible anyway.

Snuff brought on the Elightenment? Perhaps it will bring on a second one. It brings elightenment to me, anyway.

B

of course they are connected. Firstly snuff is a great thing. Secondly everything is connected you can’t really take part of something away and not have it interfere with everything it was connected to. So of course they are connected.

P

I find it a very social habit, I find almost all tobacco intake to be better w/company, although i’am the only one snuffing.

G

I find there is certainly a subject of studies,a country in 1700 (example of France) where ,in 100 ans,at nobody to everybody can be called snuffer.

At the same I knew that most sweedishs use snus today, but I’ve heard it recently.

For me information is one thing, propaganda another. If I say to everyone here that snus is common there,on Scandinavia, and what is snus,I’m not sure to be beliven…

B

what is snus it’s a wonderfull tobacco gunk that swedish men stick in their gums so that they don’t get lung cancer. That’s one explanation.

G

@bob I don’t know really the dangerously or not of the two smokless tobacco.I would go to look for figures.

Sailors says it isn’t a source trouble but can we truely trust point by point their possible advertasing ?

A secure thing,I’m adult and I know my way better than health censors could want for others.

Today it’s easy too feel guilty ,but tobbacco haven’t copiryght of death.

B

Oh I’ve read so much about it. And snus is definatly safer then smoking cigs. Sweden has the same rate of tobacco users as the rest of europe in general yet the lowest rate of tobacco related death among men. It’s pretty blatant. Now let us figure out which country can become the snuff country so we can have one big bullet point to get it through peoples heads that snuff is pretty damn safe.

X

We need to get it through people’s heads that snuff exists, first.

D

@Xander I agree. Most people have no idea what the hell it even is. Some of my friends tell me that their grandmothers used to take snuff. People in the American South seem to have a vague idea of what it is.

One of my buddies said that his grandmother snuffed up until she died, and she was in her 90s. She carried her snuff around in one of those bullets on the necklace, with the little spoon built in. Also said that she always had a brown stain on the front of her gown.

G

@Xander (1st comment)I think that every think working on brain capacity could extend our deep reflexion.I think minds should be stimulateds just like a muscle,Or animals in liberty ? :D/

G

It is like many things a question of maximal good use.But what’s definition of better use ? It should variate on each character.

R

@Dakotas it’s interesting that you said that you friends say it was their grandmothers that took snuff. I find that too, more than grandfathers. I wonder if it was more socially acceptable for women to snuff than to smoke?

B

@reginaldSpleen that is very true. It was considered uncouth for woman to smoke for a long time. Technicaly snuffing wasn’t something that was considered o.k. to openly do. (hence why it’s their grandmother, someone they know instead of their neighbors. Humans are a strange creature.

G

@bob ,  you think snuff not influe on health visibly, really I don’t know well this precise subject(question of personals priorities) .May be you have some figures on safety of this fine tobacco ?

Or only some particulars examples on family,as same it is interesting.

B

I don’t have any figures off the top of my head. Though if you look around and read closely the medical litature, there is one clear conclusion which is that snuff is probably one of the safest drugs in the world. And in america it used to be considered wrong for woman to enjoy vices in any way but especialy openly and publicily. So woman would use snuff because it was easy to hide but why hide that from the family especialy when you are old. I’am sure there should be somewhere you can find stuff in french that would conclude the same things that I’am saying. Sorry that I don’t feel like redoing the research.

@Xander “Snuff brought on the Elightenment? Perhaps it will bring on a second one. It brings elightenment to me, anyway.”
Priceless

B

I couldn’t agree more with what xander said.

G

At minimum we can consider here a piece of Choice…

J

Certainly snuff could add years to many lives. Quality years! People have a right to know! Some governments should be sued for interfering with the dissemination of this knowledge. Tobacco and cigarettes are not one and the same. I understand that this is somewhat political but this thread is already borderline political and I think this is one area of politics that we really should be discussing here at the snuffhouse. Of course if we start an uprising here we risk big brother type interference. Perhaps someone could start a Tobacco Uprising website.

V

Tobacco Uprising! Ooh-Rah!

G

It’s an approach of history.I don’t see the political here.I want to impose or propose nothing particular.

But you you seem a good censor…Sorry not to discus on your own way.

J

I’m proposing a toast of snuff to snuff, that’s all.

G

F&Treyer / HDT on it.
