hate the check tools (other check I know). Don’t even like them for pipes, what you don’t got fingers? the tool sppon tried it as a snuff ssponn didn’t like it or the keys that stick on my keyboard. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I got bored today and decided I’d make my own snuff spoon just for kicks. I used only a twig and a pocket knife. I ended up making two because I found it to be so fun. I know absolutely nothing about wood carving so please don’t laugh at my neolithic craftsmanship. I got fancy and used the inner bark fibers to make the handle decor on the larger one. I just used the bark from the same twig. I made the little one with a hollow bowl but the larger one I opted for a shovel tip design.

@spyro - well done! Those actually look really cool.

Thanks Bodger. I never realized how much wood has to teach until this silly experiment. Maybe someday my great-grand children will rummage thru my snuff collection and get a giggle out of finding these odd artifacts.

@spyro that spoon laying on your snuffbox looks like the first spoon I made! Almost identical in fact!

Transistor, The project was a lot of fun. I’m sure you know what I mean now when I say that wood has a lot to teach when you try working with it using only your bare hands and a knife. I’m tempted to try again using bone, horn, or even large hoof shavings. I also have an hypothesis that I can make a stone spoon using only two rocks and a kinfe.

@spyro you inspired me to have a go at carving my own spoon so here it is. It took about an hour. I made it out of an English oak twig. I must ad this is the first time I have tried carving anything. I agree with you it is a lot of fun.

Bob, If you want a cheap spoon, get a Mccdonalds straw, cut a cm down the middle at the end then trim the length to fit in your snuff tin.Im sure someones already said this but Ive not read all the thread:) Better still take pinches.

theratroom, Nice job on your spoon. Glad to hear you had as much fun as I did. Its a great way to relax for an hour.

It sounds crazy, but i have found one fun alternative method to snuff is to take the bulb off of a camera air dusting brush and use it to suck up snuff and then puff it into my nose. It actually works great with really fine snuffs.

I’m not sure about this, but I seem to recall seeing or reading something about a native tribe that practiced blowing powdered concoctions into each others noses with a hollow reed. I don’t think it was snuff, probably some hallucinogen or healing powder, etc… Seems like a good way to pass a virus to me.

yes that happens. Tribal living is a good way to pass a virus though not compared to town and city living. lately been back of the handing it and it works great for me.

I suppose thats a bit like a decongestant nasal spray

@spyro Yeah it was a hallucinogen. i saw some documentary about that. They were blasting it into one another’s nose through this long tube. More like blasting it all over their face!

lol, yeah, that sounds familiar. Similar to the Scar Face snuffing technique.

Does anyone use the spoon to take the snuff from the tin oder snuffbox to the back of the hand? That’s my method when I am not in a to formal setting.

I rarely ever use a “spoon” but I do use a pocket knife blade as a scoop if I’m just shoveling out of the tin and don’t want dirty fingers. The rest of the time I use back-of-the-hand and occasionally pinch if I’m in a hurry or its a special snuff that actually tastes better pinched. The spoons I made along with a couple I own are hardly ever used. I recommend carving your own tho for the pure enjoyment of it. If you really want a fancy spoon for your gear collection, don’t forget to look at salt spoons. Some of them are pretty ornate and they are usually cheap.

I miss my spoon :frowning:

I use a spoon in tins that I cant get my fingers into the bottom of. Like F&T or 6photo. Besides that I pinch, I get more flavour from pinching.

@Glenno @Snuffster @Xander - I tried the tubing version, as suggested by Glenno, of blowing the snuff into the nose with your mouth. I used clear flexible tubing like the kind used for aquarium airpump setups. I cut a segment as long as my index finger. For snuffing, I hook the tube under my index finger and hold a short end with my thumb (for my mouth) and the long end is held in place with the middle finger. Even simpler way to picture it - im holding a “J”. I dip the long end in the snuff box a few times until I have 1/2 inch or so (of Quit usually). Then: 1) (IMPORTANT), I hold my breath, 2) long tube goes in my nose and aim at the sweet spot, 3) short end in the mouth, 4) while still holding the breath, use the cheeks to blow a quick but small blast. I like the control since I can aim where I want. I like that you get zero throat snuff since, if you are holding your breath, it just cant get there (but it CERTAINLY get s as high up as you want). I like the feeling of my scalp and eyeballs on fire when I aim 1/2" of Quit at my sweet-spot
