I’m not a fan of tap boxes generally, as the pinch is by far my preferred method. This is partly as I have very narrow (slitty) nostrils, so I can flare “manually” with a pinch, whereas the boxcar works less well. I was going to do this as a poll, but it doesn’t look like this forum has that facility … but never mind, I’ll ask anyway Not taking into account issues of drying out or leakage, which type of box would you prefer to buy snuff in for ease of use? (not counting bulk obviously) A) Slide opening tap box (like SG) B) Flip opening tap box (like Jaxons/Molens) C) Push lid tin (like WoS or larger SG) D) Screw lid tin (like Toque) E) Pop Top Tub (Like Dholakia/larger GH) I think my favourite at the moment is actually the Babaton Blue tub, which has a nice secure and well sealing lid, but is sized very well for pinching too :-bd
well due to drying, i have to say the tap boxes like the red bull i gave you are my fave, when the snuff isnt going to dry out. otherwise, i like using toque 10g tins for my EDC. all in all… i guess id prefer to purchase in the larger vacuum SG tins, then decant into tapbox like poschl for german or wide screw top like toque with everything else for use.
If we’re talking about tins, because let’s face it - everyone should hate tap boxes - then I wish manufacturers would use f&t’s. They are by far the best. Then vacuum tins. Then toque tins.

:)) I think the F&T’s are excellent for drawer storage and decanting from, much like the SG 25g tins (though spoons are needed for decanting the SG but not the F&T). Not something I’d want in my pocket though. I think the tap boxes despite being designed for pocket carry (?) are about the worst pocket carry option there is (for me anyway), and are pretty crap for storage purposes too.
Snuff containers are tools. Each tool has a specific purpose. You don’t hammer a nail with a screwdriver. Some are good for usage, some are good for storage. As far as containers that are designed to be used from directly, it depends entirely on the type of snuff. A tap box is best suited for German snuffs that pours onto one’s hand, as they emulate German snuff bottles. A round pinchable one is perfect for most dryer English snuffs. For something like Taxi, anything that fully opens will do, as one needs to push loads and loads into one’s nose.
Overall toque tins (NOT the silver dollar ones) are my favorite.
hmm. although the F&T tins are nice, i dont like that apparently the metal is more prone to corrosion and that the white stuff in the lid can apparently come off into the snuff.
If it arrives fresh that is all that matters to me, I transfer into glass jars then fill a snuff box for travel, I also have a table top box I have for my F&T HDT. I love this snuff but only use it once because it is special to me. While at home my spoon out of jars at the moment it strikes my fancy. there are only a few snuffs I employ the pinch method. I boxcar most of the working day and pinch the toast at home. They should all get on the same page and vac seal their products for factory fresh delivery!
I prefer 200 g tins because the more you buy, the lower the unit price is.
I love the glass bottle from gotards.
I guess since you ask us not to worry about freshness I like the WoS 10g tins. When I have one with a tight-fitting lid I’ll wash it out and use it as a snuff-box.
Get some smash boxes @horus92, dirt cheap and far more effective at keeping snuff fresh than WoS tins will ever be.
The nice thing about tap boxes it that no one who wants to try my snuff can stuff their grubby fingers into my preciously pure magic powder. :)>-
I do like the plastic NTSU tubs for hydrating dried out snuff from those worthless tap boxes
I like the Boston round bottles with a rubber stopper or cork they just look good next to Samuel Gawith bulk tubs.
B. I enjoy the flip top boxes the best. They bring a feeling of nostalgia for me and I can easily get to a pinch as it’s my prefered method.
@The_Persian_Slipper That’s not what he means by flip opening tap box. Its the same way most Pöschl snuffs open. A little hinged flap over an opening at one end of the box. Sorry I can’t find an image, I’ve been looking.
@Xander Ohhhhh, okay. Well never mind then. Then the answer is D, the little screw on lids.
B) flip opening tap box, becouse my palms and fingers are usualy dirty when im at work. So with it i can use my snuff without touching tobacco with dirty fingers. Just tap it on the cleanest part of my hand. But at home usualy tins.
