Well here i m snuffing gletscher prise and wow you know what i love it ??? i have read a lot here and i know a lot of you here hate poschls and find them clogging or lacking nicotine but im enjoying it very much … how many of you actually use poschls snuff as an every day snuff here and whuch one ???
Gawith Apricot is a beautiful snuff from Poschl. I use Apricot every day, and I’m not averse to a pinch of President either. Poschl snuffs get a bad rap occasionally, and the tapboxes are fairly infuriating things, but the product is, by and large, excellent IMHO.
lowenprise is probably my favorite one menthol and eucalyptus or something rather tasty
I use Ozona Raspberry everyday
I find them oily yes but sometimes that’s nice, ESP on a cold day or when your nose has dried out or you have a cold. As for nicotine well I have no idea how much is in them but I find the simple answer is if it feels like low nicotine then well simply take tons of the stuff … and most importantly enjoy !
I’ve been using Gletcher Prise for almost 3 years. It’s been a more or less constant thing, but I have deviated to try out a bunch of Toque flavors, F&T, Kendal, etc. Somehow I always seem to end back up in the company of the snuff that got me started.
I don’t hate poschls, Poschls hates me and my nose.
@Xander I’ve been busy, that’s what I’ve been away from community sites for almost 2 years or something like that. Work has helped make sure I get absolutely no spare time. Snuffster must’ve copied me, or we simply both have used PhotoBooth on the Mac at some point
I’ve been snuffing for only 6 days but I’m enjoying every single pinch. I had a box of Poschl’s “Gawith Apricot Snuff” for 3 days, and I got today a box of “Gletscher Prise” and a “Lowen-Prise” box today. Gletscher Prise is quite enjoyable but because of the Columbia oil, I associate it with something medicinal or medicated. I really like it just not as much as the next one, the Lowen-Prise. Just as my other two boxes are menthol + a flavor, this one is light eucalyptus + what seems to me as natural tobacco. Locally, I could only find menthol blends of snuff but I would love to get some natural snuff tobacco with it’s natural qualities. As much as I like Lowen Prise, the box is a disaster, I almost spilled it all on the street due to the fact that it’s made out of two pieces which aren’t that well held together and It’s horrible. I will have to take care with this one and don’t spill it or waste it because I like it a lot. I’ve been sniffing the Gawith Apricot Snuff for 3 days and I couldn’t feel the Apricot that much, maybe because of getting used only to that one so I’ll put that aside a bit while I’ll enjoy the other two. I’d really like to get some more brands, especially non menthol, just it’s a shame that locally these things are like dark matter to the shopkeepers…
Poeschl medicated snuffs are grand, I’d buy them if available locally but don’t bother to order them online, sticking to factory sales i.e. Toque and Wilsons of Sharrow atm. Especially Loewen-Prise is really flavoursome!
Personally…I have always really enjoyed the Poeschl line particularly as change of pace or “transition” snuffs between two non-menthol varieties. I find the menthol in many to be “just right” and when fresh their fruit scented snuffs are very refreshing. They can be a bit “cloying” or “artificial” at times but still very pleasant. The nicotine level I would say is moderate on most though I agree with what was stated above…just take another pinch if you’d like a bigger kick. I also personally like the “tap boxes” or the small circular Ozona dispensers when I’m on the go. I simply tap out a portion onto my hand and pinch it. I enjoy Gawith Apricot, Packards Club, and several of the Ozona’s particularly the Raspberry and Orange. GP is also very refreshing in the morning as a “wake up” pinch. Also these are all very easy to take and are what I consider “low maintenance” snuffs.
I love Poschl snuff of all types. My only real problem is that I can’t buy them in bulk, and they tend to be on the pricey side because of that. Even the Gletcher Prise 25 gram refill only saves me about 28 cents US as apposed to just buying it by the tap box. As a smoker, I never buy cigarettes by the pack - always by the carton. I feel the same way about snuff. If I like it, I always buy bulk. Other than that, Packard would be be my ‘go to’ menthol, followed by President. But with my current income, they have to be just a treat rather than an everyday.
It has to be said, Poschls are the easiest-to-take snuffs I know of. Gawith Apricot in particular, it goes down (or should I say up!) So easily, no burn, no drip, just lovely refined snuff. It’s my absolute favourite bedtime snuff, extremely relaxing and delicious.
@Jinder I couldn’t disagree more. :-/
@xander I think there’s a huge variation in how different people’s noses react to different snuffs, wouldn’t you say? I find it really interesting. For example, I can take huge pinches of Best Dark all day long, but others have said they find it’s clogging and doesn’t work for them at all. J&H Wilson’s SP No1 gives me unbearable nose burn, but I’ve never read of anyone else having a similar experience with it…I think it’s great that so many snuffs exist in order for people to find what suits them best. My experience with Poschls has been excellent, a little drip with President but no negative effects with GA at all, it feels like Apricot icecream for the nose, to me. Different strokes for different folks…if we all liked the same snuff we’d have nothing to talk about here, so vive le difference, I say!
Yep agree with @jinder, I find it interesting also how 99% can take … But 1 % can’t and vise Versa due to clogging or sinus problems or reactions .
I’m with @Xander for this. The oil in Poschls clogs me up no end. If you want a real flavoursome snuff go for Camphor & Mild, it’s an all day snuff with a beautiful flavour, you could do 10g a day and not get fed up with it. Stefan
Gawith Apricot and Ozona President are everyday snuffs for me. I also really like Lowen Prise, Gletscher Prise and Ozona Raspberry, which have also already been mentioned. Also, of course, Red Bull, which hasn’t been mentioned yet in this thread. It’s much stronger than the other Poschls - it even says “strong snuff” on the box! The texture is a bit different to most other Poschls, a bit finer and drier than usual… and it has a much stronger menthol blast. It’s kind of comparable to Hedges L260 in that respect. It also has a strong ‘other’ taste, a sort of eucalyptus zing. Their non-tobacco white snuff Ozona Snuffy Weiss is quite pleasant too… very minty, like crushed Tic-Tacs.
hell-yeah for Pöschl´s snuff !!! i felt like to comment in this post since i didnt saw it before. i am a Pöschl fan myself and NO it´s not connected to the fact that i am german as much as you may thing. i just really enjoy many of their snuffs and like @Jinder put it, we are all diffrent and it is very nice to know that i am not the only one in here (besides @Sloth) who openly advocates Pöschl snuffs. (o.o)/
In fact all german snuffs seem to disagree with me. Except for the Bernards for some reason oh and lotzbeck. Which is sad because I love the scents of the snuffs I’ve tried. The sternecker snuffs I’ve tried are one of my favorite scents but mess up my nose something fierce.
@prismaster nice to meet you ! Ah also good to see a fellow fan, their is Somthing poschl have that no other snuff does and what it is I don’t know but I love it ! Everyday !!! Many times a day
They mess my nose up too, too cloggy. I’ve tried a couple, but never found one I liked. It seems to be all bark and no bite; by that I mean that the ones I have tried seemed to have strong flavors and thick cloying texture, but not much in the way of detectable nicotine. Now, I’m not some crazy nicotine fiend, but I do take snuff because it contains nicotine, otherwise there would be no point. Poschl snuffs seem to have too much ‘window dressing’ in the form of flavoring and texturizing ingredients, but at the expense of tobacco flavor and nicotine. Now this is coming from a guy who prefers snuff to have a pedominantly tobacco flavor rather than fruit, menthol, flowers etc, so don’t take it too seriously. I wonder if the low nicotine hit has something to do with the oil? Maybe the oil somehow interferes with the passage of the nicotine through the mucous membranes?
I agree with you @doctorbeat, Poschl and Bernard seem pretty low in nicotine. But I doubt the oil prevents the nicotine absorption since nicotine is both liposoluble and hydrosoluble (so that nicotine is present in the oily coating and would still be in direct contact with the nose). My guess is it’s the variety of tobacco they use, or maybe the fermentation process that degrades some nicotine?
@joe hey there, nice to meet you too. some more Pöschl fans isnt a bad thing, since we are somehow under-represented in here. i guess this is why in here are not that much germans and i am nearly sure the main market for Pöschl is still Germany. but i am not sure about that and anyway their Schmalzer got some following. ever tried them, joe ?? @doctorbeat many snuffers say that, that its cloggy and all. i just say, diffrent noses - diffrent conditions - diffrent likes and dislikes @KebAMP about that i dont know but since i use a WIDE variety of snuff - it´s one of the things i like the most about snuffing - i can easily switch over to higher nic snuff, as so i can live with the lower nicotine in most Pöschl creations.
@Prismaster I love Poschl Dopplearoma, Sudfrucht and Perlesreuter and a lot of Bernard too. I like their deep, penetrating and long-lasting aromas. I keep them always available for when I need to set back and relax, or before I go take a walk in the neighborhood.
Gawith Apricot EVERY day and I love it. Thats why I use it every day!
Gawith apricot is fantastic ! Those that say its low on nicotine well simple take more of it lol Or massive punches !!! @prismaster no not tried a schmalzer ? I have heard a lot about them but sadly never found were to get them ? ! Sure I agree Germany is the main market but maybe due to the fact not many snuffers here admit to using it as a lot view it as inferior snuff , I however view it as top notch !
I got my first schmalzer in this weekend and i absolutely adore it. Fruity, chocolatey, and so, so easy to take. I can shovel loads of thing in my nose without even having to pay attention. The only problem is the fool-like scent gives me some mad afternoon munchies.
President Ozona, love it, use it almost every day. I would like to try some Apricot though…
Lol @dogwalla um were did you order from and which one mate ?
Ozona is v nice that’s the shiny mirror tube isn’t it ? Anasied flavour ish If I remember rightly ?
I got the Sudfrucht from Mr. Snuff. I mostly got the bundle for the box, but I really like the snuff.
Ah mr snuff ok thanks @dogwalla
I put off ordering any Pöschl snuffs for a long time, mostly because the price per gram is higher than most of their competitors. However, if I find one I really like, I’ll reorder regardless of price. I’ve got a couple varieties – Red Bull and Gawith Apricot – on order. They should be arriving this week, I hope.
Apricot is soooo nice lol it’s just one of those snuffs that ticks all the boxes for me ! I don’t find Red bull that strong myself ?
For me in germany the price per gram is not higher than most of their competitors… good snuff, but not in my small top favourites list.
For me, it’s not that I really dislike Pöschl snuffs, it’s just that there are a ton of snuffs out there that I like much better. The only Pöschl snuffs I really like these days are their schmalzlers, which I must admit are excellent based on what I’ve tried. I might buy more Apricot and Lowenprise, but once my Redbull and FC Bayern are finished off, I think I’ll be content to go without them for a while.
in the end, it all depends on personal taste. as snuff-takes we are somehow lucky, that we can change from such a wide varity of products from all over the world. i am sure, that there is no end in the near future and i hope to see many new creations from Pöschl but of course from other manufactures too. that would be great. maybe more and more people will find the pleasure of snuffing and the market will expand itself, until that time, we are all fine with the good snuffs we got, however who made them. isn´t that the most important point for us - Pöschl or not.
@mr.snuff Are you going to sell Viking in the future? I’d like to try some, as it seems to be getting excellent reviews, but they won’t ship to the States. =(
I loved them when I was at university in Germany in the early 90’s. Now I find they block my sinuses. I can take a couple of pinches and do when in Rome (OK Deutschland) But, within a day my nose is blocked. I thought for a while I was just doing too much but, now I realise the menthol blocks most folks noses.
I just got an order with tap boxes of Gawith Apricot and Red Bull. Initial impression? I have to agree with shikitohno – the Pöschls aren’t bad, but I like other snuffs better. The Gawith Apricot doesn’t seem to have much apricot at all – just a vague, unidentifiable fruit scent hovering in the background. I like the Red Bull better, but I would happily trade it for Toque Menthol or Hedges L260 (which I may refill the cute little tap boxes with, once the current contents are gone).
The only kind of Poschi I’ve tried so far is the Gawith Apricot and I now know why it is a bestseller. The initial cool of the menthol quicly subsides to leave a sweetness that is just right. It is an all day snuff that goes great with nasal napalm like Gold Label to even out the burn chill factor. I got it 2 weeks ago and I’m already almost out. That wouldn’t seem like much unless you’ve seen my current collection. I definetely have severe TAD
The apricot’s menthol makes my nose run but not too much. In fact it usually clears my sinuses and I love the menthol chill on my throat
I enjoy President, Gawith, Packards Club, etc. They’re probably the easiest snuffs to take for me. Very forgiving and gentle on my nose. If there was a difficulty meter, I’d say these would be on the far end of easy, while something like an American scotch is on the far opposite end. Too low in nicotine to be used all day, imo. As @PipenSnusnSnuff mentioned, the amount of snuff you get for the price is not a very good deal compared to some competitors but most snuffers enjoy variety and they make a nice addition to the collection. Having the waxy base, the tap boxes aren’t as bad for these snuffs as they are for other companies (cough gawith hoggarth cough). I do think Bernard makes better schmalzlers, but to each their own.
I kind of see Poschl’s as the snuff equivalent of Prince Albert. It’s common, readily available, and fairly good. On the other hand, like Prince Albert, it seems to lack the complexity, character or whatever of other brands.
menthol and me are fine poschls clog me. I think it’s other things then menthol and it seems like allergies.
Its never done it for me. It all tastes the same and seems to originate with one, universal flour that they dump various mentholated flavours into.
Personally I find the Poschl menthols clear me rather than clog, I just really dislike the tap boxes. I particularly enjoy their English Menthol as far as menthol snuffs go. The schmalzers are where they truly shine as a company though.
@mr.snuff this one actually awaits me already at my desk. will return home from some out of city work and made a order some days back. Poschl´s Anis is in it. neat container.
Q1: Any experience with Poeschl Anis? Q2: Is the Ozona-type dispenser reusable/refillable? If yes, how does it work after being opened? Still tight enough? Many thanx for sharing your exps
Ooooops, there is a third one: Q3: Are there any plain (or non-medicated) snuff in Poeschl-range?
I love Poschl President. It is my staple snuff basically. But right now Im switching over to McC’s OG, but I still fill the President boxes with it… I love those tapboxes… what’s not to love about them? They are great! Tap a pile on the back of your hand, pinch from that, sniff, blow the reamaining powder off your hand like money aint a thang, clap your hands to rid excess powder, check your noses reflection in the mirrored tapbox, and off you go…
I’m enjoying Gawith Apricot right now! It’s extremely user friendly. BTW, is there anything else that’s this easy to take? I tried Toques and find them very difficult to use, even with all the tips that you guys put here. Maybe coarse, most snuff like Viking, Taxi, NTSU Black, or schmaltzers?
Easy to take? Elmo’s Reserve. And all Bernards, Viking Peach and Brown. I can completely fill my sinuses with them. And I do it regularly. Twice a day maybe.
