Poschl Packard's Club Snuff

OK. So I grew impatient waiting for my Toque order and decided to hunt for a tin locally. I vowed to vind one if I had to hit every tobacconist from Carlstadt to Trenton. My search ended in Newark, NJ at a “head” shop known for it’s, a-hem, tobacco smoking devices. Luckily I found a tin of this club snuff, and boy was I excited! This would be my first imported snuff, the only other tried being an American Snuff Peach snuff, very dry very fine. So one I figured this contraption out I set up a pinch and bottoms up! A totally different experience, all together. (a totally different experience.) The snuff didn’t fly to the back of my throat when I snuffed it. It is plesantly medicated. The tobacco seemed more…matured, for lack of a better word. So I’m throwing out my Peach when I get home. This will hold me over till my order gets here. And if it doesn’t another is waiting for me 45 mins away.

I wouldn’t throw out the Peach. Its at least as good as Packard’s Club, but as you have noitced: completely different. You have inadvertantly dicovered the ridiculous extremes of snuff buying in US shops. American Peach and the other scotches are extremely fine and dry by almost any standard. They require a practiced nose, but have the reward of an instant and potent nicotine hit. Packard’s Club and the other Pöschls, on the other hand are easy to take without hurting yourself, but are always mentholated and for some have an annoying tendency to cause choking or congestion due to the paraffin moisture base. There is much, much more to discover and these are two near the extremes of the spectrum. You’ll probably not find much else looking locally, but at least you have something until your Toque order arrives.

Be prepared to have a permanently blocked nose

lol, I just hit the pharmacy for decongestant. Thought it was allergies. /./

Could I get some tips about the peach cause I just don’t get it. The Club gave me a wonderful buzz. But I get near nothing from peach.

As scotches go, Peach is one of the weaker ones. However, you should get something. It won’t give a “buzz”, it gives more of a “hit” or a “rush”. Finer snuffs have the hit effect and courser ones have the longer and more sustained “buzz”. It all has to do with surface area of the particles of snuff. I don’t know how high or low your nicotine tolerance is, but a plain or strong scotch snuff is almost always going to be stronger than a sweet one. Scotches and also toasts are tricky for beginners to master. Natrually you don’t want it to hit you in the back of the throat or make you feel like your sinuses are on fire, so you have to sniff very gently. Also you have to find some way to control the airflow as it enters your nose. Eventually you can learn to do this just by breath and muscle control. In the beginning it may help to hold your nostril closed with a free finger by pressing it closed at the bridge of the nose of the sniffing nostril. This will reduce the amount of air (and snuff) that goes from the nose to the throat. Also the angle that you take the pinch to the nostril will enable a lot of control. It will take some experimenting and practice to get it right. For some, holding the pinch farther away works, and sometimes sticking it right inside works for others. For now, just put that one in the drawer and come back to it every week or so after you practice with your Toques. Just don’t throw it away! You probably give 50 members heart attacts or chronic depression when they heard a snuff is getting thrown away. :frowning: There’s plenty more advice in past threads, but hopefully thats a little bit to help for now. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. Having tried out a coarser snuff and experiencing where it should go in my nose I was able to place the finer snuff quite well when I got home. I’m gonna run off and pick up a scotch and try that out! This is a fun and inexpensive hobby! If only my sinuses will forgive me

Ok, let us know what you find. Starr is the most beginner friendly of the plain scotches.

It seems your sinuses will forgive you if you don’t go overboard on the Poschl’s. They clog me up like no other. Not sure if its the menthol or the paraffin though, as other mentholated snuffs don’t bother me as much.

Hit your Packard’s first. Then use the peach as your go to snus. The Packard’s will coat your nose and make the peach more manageable. The peach in turn will dry the nose and keep the clogging at bay For those just trying a Toast or a Scotch, I recommend starting with something coarser in grind and a bit on the moist side. The reason is that the coarser snuff will catch a lot of the finer dryer snuff and keep it from dusting the back of your throat as much.

I tried some Packard’s Club Snuff a while back and considered throwing it away. I didn’t read the reviews first and the menthol was a shock. I wasn’t expecting a strong menthol. I don’t like menthol. Couldn’t bring myself to toss it though, just put it away while I pondered the problem. I decided to try mixing it to tone down the menthol. Boy am I glad I did! 80% Levi Garrett and 20% Packards Club(by volume) I have since stocked up on some more Packard’s Club. I do not want to be without this blend. Give it a try, I think you might like it.

Well I went off and bought that snuff. It was a sweet scotch called Buttercup. Pretty much the same thing as Peach minus the peach. I might use them here or there in a pinch, no pun intended. They give me breathing problems they are so fine and dry. If anyone wants 3/4 tin of American Peach or a can of Buttercup let me know and I would be happy to send it to you. My Toque order came today and I am stoked! So many flavors so little time.

About Poschls clogging up: They don’t seem to clog me up at all, rather the complete opposite - they get my nose really (REALLY) running. I usually use them when I have cold to clean my nose.

Ah, well… Buttercup’s not terrible, but I have a nearly full tin. It gets mixed reviews at snuff reviews. Its not the best example of a scotch, but it is a little different for an occasional pinch.

Buttercup is very good as a dip.

Yeah, I tried it that way. The flavor was interesting, but not much nic.
