@ juxtaposer can you help and post results for radford snuff from poschl.I could not find it
I did not realise how many other ingredients and chemicals are added to their snuffs. Are any of them actually harmful substances though?
possibly I think they harm me. That’s why I don’t poschl probably.
before you start the Pöschl bashing again, show us ingredients from other majos snuff producers. to speak of “harm” sounds like non-sense to me. this is Germany, we got the most strict laws for ingredients whatever in the whole world. before you make yourself mad about “evil” chemicals and such in Pöschl products, well, think about countries like South Africa or India first - they can virtually do whatever they want and this is not a offense against S.A. or India, i love snuffs from both countries but to bash on Pöschl about “harmful” substances in their snuff is, well, somehow “funny” to me.
@prismaster very good point, and I love poschl snuffs.
If Poschl makes some of the best snuff and uses multiple ingredients to do so, and to keep it moist and fluffy, then so be it. What is important is to know if any of these ingredients are harmful. So unless somone knows of some bad ingredient like that, then this information isnt important
my only problem is they close my nose which other snuffs do not.
some of their additives may irritate certain people (my nose)
bob I always knew you were a character from a Gogol short story. Does your nose wear field marshall’s uniform?
@Vito445 " If Poschl makes some of the best snuff and uses multiple ingredients to do so, and to keep it moist and fluffy, then so be it. that is what i meant. it would suprise me to the max if there were dangerous stuff in their snuff. really, i cannot imagine that. of course, IF there were some, i really would to know since i use their stuff often !!!
I look up to the products of Germany, just think of their brewing industry. German Beer Purity Law
Please don´t get me wrong here. I am not here to promote Germany or anything from our country nor i am a strong nationalist. It was just, that i could not stand bashing on Pöschl about “dangerous stuff” in their snuff. That was the sole reason i had to speak up and did write about the very, very strict laws and customs we got over here.
Many people around the world a able to produce high-quality products, whatever the product is. In Germany it is just this sense of quality which made stuff from Germany famous around the world and many people over here take this VERY serious. See @Snuffhead ´s beer link.
My personal opinion is just, that since we lost a lot during these wars in the past (in which we did play the most “evil” role), many people in Germany like to keep up at least the good call “Made in Germany” has since 200 years. They are proud of the quality they produce and i am sure the same goes for Pöschl.
Prismaster,
You should promote your Country. It’s a wonderful place.
I think what’s causing concern is Pöschl and it’s relationship to the FDA. I’d bet my last dollar there is nothing in their ingredients that would cause any harm.
It’s actually impressive how seriously Poschl has taken their snuff making. There are relatively so many ingredients to assure the snuff will be of consistent quality with a long shelf life. They also obviously tested and compensated the effects of using those tap boxes too. Certainly they would never put anything in them that would compromise their users health. Although, this type of adulterating engineering is a little overwhelming for the average layman. It would certainly only help their reputation to have the FDA approve them. I would speculate that the FDA is not up to speed on some of their ingredients or has disapproved of some due to having considered them for use in cigarettes. And who knows what other red tape the Poschl executives have to regurgitate? Regardless, I don’t think it will be too long before Poschl re-enters the U.S. markets.
just to be clear I don’t see anything harmfull on their list. Anything I would say you don’t want in your nose. I do see some stuff that could irritate some people. I know that sometimes in english snuffs there are scents that do the same thing though certainly are not harmfull (some of the Freyborg treyer snuffs).
Sorry if I sounded like there is anything dangerous in their snuffs.
@AllenH Gogol? who is that? Where is my royality check???
@bob Sorry, i didnt want to sound like i would attack you. That was totally not the case. I hope you dont get me wrong on that.
The fun thing for me is, that Pöschl isn´t my favorite snuff maker but i like´em and since Gletscherprise was my first snuff and thanks to that i am into snuff today - i just hold special feelings for Pöschl and i really, really hope that they can push their snuff buisness further so that many, many people - who are new to snuff - get an easy intro to this wonderful hobby/habit/product/pleasure/[put in your own words] !!!
Their Ozona Orange is on my short list of permanent additions to the cellar.
Prismaster that’s cool. Either way I can understand poschl does have some great scents but almost all of them clog me up except for a select few.
@bob Good to know that we can handle stuff like this on this forum without getting bad blood.
Prismaster,
Bob is a bit of an eccentric genius. He’s really quite harmless and wouldn’t take offence. He just bumbles along with his funny unusual posts and then, bam! He knocks our socks off with a piece of blind inspiration that takes your breath away.
Bob ;<)
@bob Nikolai Gogol, the greatest writer ever. In one of his short stories a fallen-off nose dresses a field marshall’s uniform and causes mayhem in Imperial St. Petersburg and you addressed your nose as person. Everything is crystal clear now? What it comes to American FDA and Poschl snuffs, these stringent regulations stink of protectionism.
@AllanH " What it comes to American FDA and Poschl snuffs, these stringent regulations stink of protectionism."
It seems a bit fishy at least. I mean, they can use so much stuff in US products and then they give Pöschl such a hard time. I wonder why this is.
AlanH, On a similar vain to Gogol, I wonder if you can help? I remember reading a Russian story about a character who turned into a fly but I’m damned if I can remember the author?
AlanH and Prismaster, I don’t think its protectionism. If my wife hadn’t been a cancer research scientist I don’t think we would have stood a chance of completing and submiting all of the FDA forms, spreadsheets and analysis data they required. Very, very complicated.
@Toque you are right,. that seems more likely
@Toque You might be thinking about Franz Kafka’s Transformation, where man turns to beetle. I’m sure Russian story about man turning to a fly exists, but can’t recall it. All the possible stories are in the 19th century Russian literature anyway and the rest is just comment.
Thanks AlanH, it was Kafka and yes it was a beetle. I think my memory must have been blurred by the film “The Fly”; no wonder I couldn’t find anything on Google.
@Toque Nice one XD
I would agree with the protectionism theory IF our tobacco companies were actually interested in the snuff we know and love. Look at how hard it is for many Americans to even find dry snuff in their local stores!
As it is I suspect the majority of their executives and workers think our (American) dry snuff is strictly an oral product.
The basic problem, as Toque pointed out, is the FDA and the fact that few of our politicians want to embrace a tobacco based product for harm reduction.
Basically poschel said the American market was not worth the headache. Like they could have passed but the market share here isn’t worth going for.
Happy to take-up their slack!
@Toque i am sure you are XD
The FDA is essentially made up of gangsters who specialize in extortion
No, the FDA is made up of prostitutes that will do anything if the price is right.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ammoniumchloride\\_crystal\\_01.jpg
It sure looks wicked.
@Juxtaposer a lot of stuff you can´t see with the plain eye looks wicked when you look at it with a microscope
ammoniumchloride is an expectorant.
what is that?
makes your nose run and get your coughs out.
The Kafaka short story is called " The Metamorphisis", not the Transformation, though that means the same thing. Years late to this thread, I’ll still throw in my opinion. Whatever may be in Poschl snuffs, it can’t nearly come close to the stuff that the FDA allows in American beef. Which is to say, growth hormones, antibiotics, etc, all of which supposedly leave residue in the meat we pretty much all consume. I’m not going to go on a rant here, but I just think it’s rather silly for people to get all worked up over the ingredients in snuff. If you don’t want to take the chance of ingesting something that may be harmful, you just should quit snuffing. Or, just enjoy it and stop worrying.
