Ok, lets do SPs next, since that’s easiest. It would help the mod team tremendously if all the nominees are posted here before we begin the poll, so please begin nominations. Its hard to do “best fruit snuff” becuase that would have about 800 nominees, you’ll have to break that down to several smaller sub-groups. SPs (basic ones) should be doable in a poll.

I don’t think anyone else will be of this opinion, but as of late I’ve become smitten by WoS SP2. I’ve tried Best SP, Tom Buck, Grand Cairo, Gold Label, J&H SP No. 1 and High Mill, along with Toque Original, SP Extra, and SG Yellow Crest and I think for it’s unique position on the SP flavor spectrum, less flavored than most but not a plain SP, it might at least be considered in a poll of SPs. Perhaps there should be one for plain SPs and another for the scented varieties.

Maybe we need a poll to decide which snuffs qualify for the poll? I would not want to include Grand Cairo as an SP. To me its simply a scented snuff, the only similarity to (most) SPs is that has bergamot, but so do a lot of snuffs.

@Xander My latest tin of GC can justify that logic.

How about… Why do you take snuff?: As an alternative to smoking. As an addition to smoking. I like the nicotine rush. I’m not into the nicotine, I like the scent in my nose. Other.

What if we did favorites by brand? It should be preceded by favorite brand and it would be difficult, but I think a few snuffs from the brand could be picked out from looking at which ones get the most mention. Favorite FUBAR would be a good start since there can’t be more than 10 of them ATM. (Yes I know it’s a contract brand)

Need technical expertise for that one. The old snuffreviews.com site had one. Guess what? We are concentrated in the populated parts of North America and England, with a smattering in the rest of Europe, and a few odd ones in India, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Israel…but not much else. We’ve got one or two from some other countries, but not many. The majority of those are folks from the previously mentioned countries working in some form of foreign service. Better than a world map would be a set of regional maps. I’m all for it, but I don’t think our software accomodates it.

@Xander i am from Turkey and everywhere is full of antique snuffboxes but noone really knows what snuff is. There is a turkish snuff users group on facebook but they are around 80 people who buy their snuff from MS or snuffstore. I think other countries are the same except india which the snuff is still produced. My poll is: How long do you use snuff? Less than 1 year 1-5 years 5-10 10-20 20+

I’d like to see an age poll. So we can see the average age of folks on Snuffhouse.

@Chipsnuff I can set that up. We’ve had some informal ones in the past (before our poll feature was here) and the average age was 36-37. It may have changed since I was right on the average then, but am now 41. So do you think I should set the new one by age in years or by year of birth? If its by year of birth it will continue to be accurate into the future. If its by age in years, it will only be accurate at the time of the poll. I’m limited to the number of selections that can be in the poll, so it will have to be brackets of years. How do most marketing folks arrange those groups?

@Xander Actually, you sort of answered my question with the average age. If it’s not too much trouble I say go for it. I think setting up brackets by birth year would be great.

Well, as separate ones, I suppose its possible. But we’re limited to 10 choices in a poll, and I don’t know enough about any of those things to know which ten could be in them. I’d like to keep most of the polls snuff related, also.

How about best floral scent.

Like I said above, I can only put 10 entries in the poll. There must be 100 floral snuffs. I could do one with just rose scent or something specific like that.

snuff is so sublimely subjective—you may be up against it. you–yourself suggested flavored toasts—that would interest me. maybe–a poll of member local: e.g. GB,n. america,s america, asia, pacific islands, australia, e european, w european ,etc… lol–i keep trying…

OK, I’ll think about both. Flavored toasts I can do but we know almost all of them are variations of one Toque base snuff. I might even set one up for traditional SPs (ones that everyone agrees are true SPs). Member demographic specifcs are always good (easy). Locale is one we have not done formally; should be easy. Most are in English speaking countries since its an English speaking forum. US then UK then Canada then the rest is my prediction (population numbers effect it more than snuff culture). We do get a fair amount from the rest of Europe and a few from the Middle East (Mostly Germany and Poland). I’ll try to have them set up by tomorrow or the next day unless another mod wants to do it.
