A friend recently gave me some Gawith Hoggarth small tins (please see photo below), supposedly from the late 1990s, that he said had been sitting in a plastic bag in his basement for many years. Most have been unopened. But he was not sure of the actual dates of the snuffs, as the tins were from a friend of his that died in that decade. But when I went to the GH website it appears that they are still using tins that look like these. So that makes me wonder if these are far more recent. But the photo of the tins on the website was so small that the tins in the photo are mostly illegible. Can anybody give me an idea of when these were made? Thanks
They could be from the late 90s. I purchased some then that looked identical to those in the picture. If they are that old, they are most likely in dire need of re-humidification, however, as those are basically the same as the wilson’s tins (i.e. friction fit lids, wrapped with tape) which dry out easily. The plastic bag may have preserved them, but unless they were bagged separately, the scents have likely mingled.
Thank you @tybalt for your helpful experience in dating these. It is much appreciated. Actually, the snuff in these tins are surprisingly well preserved. They are taped as you said and previously unopened, but in good shape.
