So, for a number of reasons, I’m pretty sure it’s worth it to make my first non-scotch a plain/natural snuff in bulk form, mostly because of money. I’m thinking of just grabbing the 200g 6 Photo Natural since it seems like a good deal and the 6Photo brand really appeals to me for some reason. As I’ve said before, it seems like you’d actually have to try to mess up a natural snuff, so it seems like I can’t go wrong this way. Am I going about this the right way or is there a flaw in my logic?
Frankly I don’t really like this one that much. In fact it is the only 6 photo that I don’t think is divinily amazing. I liked it at first but there is an oily scent that really starts to bother me after a while. I suggest trying it first and buying bulk only what you already know you like. Or here is a good idea see if anyone will make a good trade with you if you happen to not like the snuff. Though I think grunt is amazing I’am sure that wilsons natural is great and toque natural is one stellar snuff.
definitely try first. I buy it in bulk. I also think FUBAR Grunt is worth bulk, but it took a while to grow on me. The spectacular drip won me over, along with the nicotine. I think GH Kendal Brown is a bulk too.
@bob hah, I have nothing to trade but the scotches my local store carries, and everyone seems to be trying to trade scotches for something else. That’s why I’ve avoided the trades thread, since I have nothing to offer that’s not constantly being offered by everyone else.
The 6 Natural has a slight lime scent as well. For a straight natural snuff Toque or Wilson’s. I haven’t had the Wilson’s but the Toque is very good. I would even consider Toque Natural Toast. It will be an easy transition for you from the scotches.
The only bulks I have are Wilson’s best Sp and Viking spear. as funds become avalible will order more.
edm
Oh no what I meant was that maybe buy the bulk but first see if anyone will make good trades as a back-up so you don’t waste the money. I hope I am making sense.
oooh, okay, I see what you mean, I think. Basically if I buy bulk, try to make it something that could more likely be traded for other snuff if I don’t like it.
I would recommend Toque Quit for a good, plain, quality snuff with excellent mixing potential and high trade value.
good call Juxtaposer. @Harlequin yep that’s what I was thinking and more thinking see if anyone would trade some snuffs you know you want before you take the plunge. Like a form of snuff buyers insurance.
I always look at things in terms of cartons of cigarettes which for me were about 60$ a piece. The cost is always deceiving when ordering because of shipping, however, you are basically getting nearly 2 months of snuff for 30- 40$(6photo natural)? give or take as I don’t know what shipping would be.
As far as kick, Im about 5 days into viking and it really whooped me at first… now Im ok on it, but I have to snuff a lot more often with my lighter stuff to keep the edge off.
Well… it’s taken me a year and a half to realize that Toque Whiskey and Honey is my go to snuff and it’s going to be the first snuff I buy in bulk. So my advice would be wait until you get to that point.
It will save you some money in the long run. Then again, finding the one snuff to rule them all may not save you money!
Hell, do what feels right.
EDIT: Also I have a metric butt ton of snuff so shoot me a PM if there is anything you want to try. (If you are in the US)
Quit is a great recommendation for a plain snuff.
joesnuffer makes a good point in the cost to finding the “one”
I have found the “12”
I don’t think I’ll ever buy bulk. I use snuff everyday, but I guess I don’t use huge amounts. I also like the idea of freshness. I like the idea of buying new tins and getting a fresh batch when I run out rather than using the same load over and over just because of exposure to the air, even though I doubt it makes much of a difference. I don’t know how much money is saved from bulk though. I’ve just never been the kind of person to buy bulk things just beause of freshness and changing my tastes. Some of my favourite snuffs now are ones I hated(literally) when I first got them. Some others I didn’t like are now up near the top of my favourites, and some I loved before I hardly ever use now they make me feel sick. Unless you don’t change much in term of preferences I wouldn’t buy bulk personally, only if I really liked something for a long time of using it.
bulk is fresher then tins. By the time you get a tin it’s lost freshness. The bulk comes factory fresh.
Yes, buy any natural you like in bulk 5 lbs or more you should get a better deal. With proper storage it should keep.
As a newbie to snuff even if you grow tired of this one, it can always be used as a mixer to tame some out of control snuff.
Or you could make it into something scented,medicated or flavored with natural or synthetically engineered additives.
I don’t know If I ever nail down my favorite? I thought I had, but then my tastes change and I am off on some other binge. Also, so many great snuffs keep arriving and I need to get my nose into them.
It’s like the old saying; “man can’t live on bread alone” another is “variety is the spice of life”
Thanks for the advice everyone!
Depending on your need/desire for nicotine, I recommend:
Overall best SP (and the snuff I buy loose by the ounce): Wilsons of Sharrow Best SP [suitably named; it is the standard-strength SP for all others to aspire to];
Wilsons Tom Buck (similar to Best SP; higher nicotine hit);
Wilsons Queens (high nicotine hit - less added flavouring - a wonderful, strong, plain snuff - also good for blending.
Tom Buck and Queens are the exact same snuff under different names and they do not have more nic than Best SP just more bergamot.
While those are great snuffs, if he wants a plain snuff those would not be the ones for him.
McChrystal’s S’nuff would be a good one to get bulk. It’s pretty plain SP and has a good amount of nicotine. When you get it in bulk, it’s a bit more moist than you’ll ever see in the little tins of it. I recently tried a tiny tin of 6 photo natural and it’s really not to my liking! If you really want an “Indian” flavored snuff, check it out first. If you want an Indian SP snuff in bulk, FUBAR is a really good choice.
@n9inchnails
Thanks for that - for clarification to other readers, I have received confirmation from Wilson’s, first hand, that Queens and Tom Buck are, indeed, the exact same product, both preserving historic names under which it was sold (the differing circumstances probably self-explanatory).
As to differences I have observed - probably not more than differences between a new tin and a tin opened for a while, or the minutest batch variations that must occur, even in the most prestigious of production processes!
@Slide Thanks for clarifying that. Yes, I’m looking for just natural snuffs. It’s not that those don’t all sound wonderful, it’s just that I want something plain that I won’t grow tired of or just want every now and then. Maybe those wouldn’t be like that, but since I rarely am able to make online purchases, I wanted to get something that will be a daily snuff. And while you are all very informative, I have yet to hear anything about who might have the best natural snuff, or the best value in grams per dollar for their natural snuff, etc…
If I had to narrow it down to 1 plain snuff it would probably be Toque Quit. Comes to a little over 14 cents a gram delivered to the USA in 400 gram bags. Any Toque 400 gram bag would be the same. Other naturals in the Toque line would be “Natural” and Natural Toast.
The advantage to Quit is that it has a little higher nicotine content. Also you could add other snuffs to give it a slight flavor if you wanted or essential oils.
As you are coming at it from American Scotches Quit will not be a difficult snuff for you. Some people that prefer a little more coarse grind feel Quit is a beast.
6 Photo Natural is an oiled snuff with a slight scent. And with the price Mr Snuff sells it far it is the best value per gram. As an example a 200 g bag of Toque is $14.00 more.
That said I would still go with Quit.
I recommend the quit, but not 5 pounds. You will probably want a few to mix it up a bit. I really like both the Queens and McCrystals S’nuff though they do not fit your definition of plain.
And I have to point out that bulk will remain very fresh for a long long time.
My go to bulks, in order of preference:
Original batch Fubar Grunt, and it is plain as can be, just no longer replicated, bummer.
Queens Extra strong, I have two pounds and they were out of bulk Tom Buck back then, and yes they are the same.
Whiskey and Honey, anything but plain, and proud of it.
Mcrystals S’nuff, Wow! that’s an SP!
And a whole bunch more, but the only one that is plain is the Grunt.
It is all about the variety really, then just bulk up on the classics that you find beguiling. But first bulk would be quit, that was good advice.
