Does anyone know where I might be able to find Gawith Hoggarth Plain snuff in the UK? I don’t mean KB plain. I believe they make a sort that simply goes by the name ‘Plain’. I don’t seem to be able to find it in the usual places.
Ermtony did the only review on this snuff, back in 2009. I wonder whether it’s still in production. You can ask Dave at mrSnuff about it.
Yes I’ll make some enquiries. Perhaps Mr Green who somehow or other always ends up supplying my various forms of tobacco will be able to get some.
I got mine from Mr. Snuff, fine snuff.
Yes there it is! Need to open my eyes today. Thanks for the tip. How would you describe it Whalen?
I think Ermtony said it best - http://snuffreviews.com/list.php?Function=Reviews&ItemID=535 It is a great plain moist tobacco and of great quality, I enjoy plain snuffs. This one is a pleasure to take.
Peter Baxter at Aireys of Kendal told me that it is simply Kendal Brown (unscented) under a different label. At the time, he was offering it on his website, so I ordered it. He is in close contact with the mill, and he went to them to get my order and they gave him that answer.
Its kind of like Wilsons selling Tom Buck and Queens Extra Strong under two names, even though they are the same snuff. If you’re not a collecter of tins, or just need to verify for yourself, it should make no difference to you.
Hi Xander. Nice to see you again. Still waiting for the SG SP bulk. Mr Green’s site is a bit of a mess. You have to follow the link through Homepage to Smoke-King. They don’t access the Green’s ordering page any more. I spoke to Mr Green yesterday. He said that a belt had broken at SG’s and hence delay. They sent the drum on Thursday. I might get it tomorrow. Strangely Smoke King appear not to feature Samuel Gawith snuffs! I think the SG SP is a good choice for everyday work. It’s nice and doesn’t bite back at me in any way. I’m still interested in these relatively plain snuffs. I’ve got some GH KB plain and like it. I will however order some of the Plain, just in case I can detect a difference. I want to order some SG Rose. And I must try that Tom Buck too. I’m not stuck on SG SP to the exclusion of everything else. It’s for daily workaday use. I try these other sorts in the evening. I’ll see how I get through the SP. Tranter’s SP would be nice in bulk too I think.
most people don’t know this but all snuff are the same. Except for the grind. The whole adding scents it’s bullshit. They just throw a diffrent label on it and you precieve it as tasting diffrently.
I’m one that didn’t know. Thanks for shittin on my snuff parade, Bob. I’m pulling all my labels off as I speak.
There’s some difference in the base tobaccos, blending , fermentation, moisture, toasting, blending, scenting. This makes for rather different experiences dont you think. Your statement is equivalent to saying that all beers or scotches are the same…
I was so unaware of the whole snuff label effect, thank you for the heads up Bob! Bart has the right idea, I am going to write to Santa Claus and just ask him to bring plain snuff this year. I am going to label all my plain snuff Spanish Jewel from now on!!!
Yes Bob is certainly on to something. The hypnotic effect of the label.
Ummm bob…you could have saved me a heap of money if you had let that bit of info slip a while ago!!! =)
Hey me too if I had known earlier. Trust me once the memo gets from my desk into my head, you guys are the first to know.
Yes bob, and all people are exactly the same too, except for their faces and personalites.
So wrong. With snuff though it’s all the same even the non tobacco stuff seriously but a ntsu label on it and wait ntsu doesn’t have a label.
