I’ve just started pipe myself so I don’t have much in the way of suggestions for tobaccos but check out tobaccoreviews.com. The number of pipe tobaccos out there will blow your mind.

Thank you mouse! Much appreciated

Good call on the Dark Strong Flake–one of my favorites! I’d add Dunhill Flake to the list. If you’re new to the pipe, do be aware that flakes (and plugs) take more “technique” to enjoy than ready rubbed. For a good, inexpensive and trouble-free pipe tobacco, it’s tough to beat Carter Hall (preferably in a MM cob). A nice Lat blend for a beginner might be Squadron Leader. For a VaPer (quite Perique heavy), Old Joe Krantz is my favorite (heavy nic-kick, as well). I outgrew my taste for Aros, but Butternut Burly is pretty good.

When I smoked i was a huge fan of Dunhill Flake, University Flake, Frog Morton on the Town … bust most of all St. James Blend. Oh man I miss that one …

I hope you don’t suffer from TAD, pipes can drain you dry. There are soooo many options, but you cant go wrong with Dunhill Flake and My Mixture 965, and for a mild aromatic try McBaren’s Danish Mixture Modern. Also, don’t turn up your nose at a $35 Italian basket pipe. Some of mine are better smokers than the pricey ones. Look up the Frank Method for loading your pipe (works wonders) and remember - sip, don’t gulp.

Dessert - Campaign Dark Flake, BCAQ, Escudo Dark - ODF, FVF, 1792 Flake, 10 Russians Regular - Capstan Flake Blue, Escudo, St. James Flake, Balkan Sobranie, Exotique, F&T Cut Virginia Plug, Dunhill Flake, Blackwoods Flake, Opening Night, Carter Hall, etc… Coffee - The best pipe tobacco to smoke when drinking coffee IMHO is ODF. It’s hard to say as each person has his/her own tastes.

I am not sure if you guys know this or not but we carry a few pipe tobaccos. We try to stock those that tend to be more difficult to find in the US, but we are able to get a significantly larger selection. Drop me line and I will see what I can do. Pipe Baccy Dave
