2 years ago I tried to get into pipes. Found the constant lighting frustrating so I put the pipe down so to speak. Now I have 7 jars with SG tobacco in them 2 years old. Do you think its still good?
Sealed jars? Not only will it be good, it will be better.
From what I’ve heard, fermenting(aging) tobacco in a sealed jar makes it a lot better.
Yes, they’re sealed in ball jars hadn’t opened them in quite awhile and when I did I had to pry the lids off almost. Lol
oh that should be delicious.
Send them to me. I’ll check them out personally and let you know if they’re ok or not!
I’m afraid I’ll have to learn the art of pipes shortly…daunting task.
Any of those tobaccos would make a good snuff!

Hopefully not. SG tobaccos come way too wet so that may have been a large part of the problem in the first place. Nothing worse that trying to smoke super wet FVF and having to endlessly relight. You learn fast to dry SG baccy out if you want to have any chance of enjoying it. As others have said, baccy that is airtight gets better with age except aromatics which tend to die after 5 years or so.

I never found them to be too wet… or is the balkan drier?
@firestarter0 that’s one i havent actually tried (but i do have a tin in my cellar). The statement was based on Full Virgina Flake, Brown rope, Firedance, Best Brown and 1792 and any others of their’s that i smoke. Over on the tobaccoreviews.com site it is a very common complaint regarding SG. I’ve had some in bulk that wasnt as bad but that probably because the big container it came from had allowed it to be aired out. All seriously good tobacco though that Samuel Gawith stuff. Just needs some drying.
It does take time to learn how to smoke, Like letting the tobacco air. Sipping rather than puffing like a freight train, packing the tobacco just right. What size of bowl to use for different tobacco’s.Tamping when needed. learning about rubbing out plug, flake, and ropes. Keeping the draft hole open, letting your pipe rest. cleaning the pipe.developing and maintaining cake thickness. Avoiding tongue bite. Trying not to inhale . So many things to learn. But once mastered it is enjoyment and relaxing rather than being enslaved by cancersticks or the like.
Thanks all. I’ll give it a more thorough go this time. Hopefully it will pan out as I do want to master this. @ basement shaman: you do make it sound daunting. Lo,
Its not all that complicated to smoke a pipe, the main goal is to just smoke some tobacco without hurting yourself(tongue bite). It only seems complicated once you start listing all the variables involved in successfully accomplishing this. Once you get the hang of it you dont even think about them, you’ll be packing and smoking bowls in your sleep in no time.
