i have just recently in the last few months really learned the correct way to use the pinch method, and begain using this tried and true method. up until now i had tried it a few times and found it messy and wasteful. i stuck with using my tried and true aluminum pipe nail, that had already lived behind my ear anyways due to my other vice, my old freind the pipe, lol. anyways, i really started to get hooked on irish toast toast 22 after switching to it during a HDT shortage at my house, i know, how could anyone ever let that happen, LOL, but it accidently did and i apologize, lol- *wink*.so, i had picked up a sharrow snuff box just for my toast snuffs and was having a problem with the toast getting in my lungs and such, so i started playing around with the pinch. in an hour or two i got the hang of it, finally, and WOW, i can not beleive the difference in taste and the way the snuff fills the nose. it is the best way to get the full enjoyment of a snuff that i have ever found. i began using and trying all my other snuffs in this manner and have found so many more taste, nuances, smells that i had never gotten to enjoy before in the other methods. it is a skill worth working on or trying if you allready do not. i was sitting here with my good old can of morlaix and figured i would past my experiences on. hope everyone had a great weekend! ---------towler

I usually use a bottle for my snuff, so I just pour snuff onto the back of my hand or thumbnail. Somehow MM, I just don’t see you in a cravat and tight pants going through a foofoo dandy snuff drill. I think you meant porcine.
Yeah, I’m a newbie and still pondering the pinch method. Poschl snuffs spoiled me to sucking up heaps off the back of my hand and I still use my bullet for the finer grinds. After reading this tho I may have to spend a day or two perfecting my cool looking aristocratic pinching method. Since I live in a redneck Texas town it might be worth the fun just to shock people with my nifty pinch look rather than appearing to be a drug fiend snorting up crystal meth or cocaine.
merdock69 & MM… exactly, …and I have to agree towler, in my experience a pinch is the most satisfying delivery. Hitting off my spoon gives me the practice of refining my sniff. It’s all good but some’s better. 
Here’s another dedicated “Pincher” ;>) I too, began with the Poschl’s but, try snuffing Rooster from the back of your hand and, you learn the pinch method real quick!! LOL That experience pushed me into buying two of onefortheroad’s boxes and, I rarely ever use the back of the hand method anymore. :>)

Yes…!!! A truffle scented snuff! Snuffed off the belly of an Asian woman no less!
I also pinch but for toasts I take a mound on one of my fingers and snuff from there. I guess it’s a cross between using a spoon and using the back of the hand but it seems to let me take toasts more easily than pinching and I never lose anything.
The pinch doesn’t look suspicious in my opinion looks more like you are pich your nose or sniffing my fingers. Like ever since I played with the roses my fingers smell great. If you’re really pariniod you could use my in class high school technique. You put the snuff in a tissue and pretend to be blowing your nose gives the addvantage of being able to clean your nose off right away.
bob, I’m really too old to give a crap what others think anymore. Just joking a bit and I do like to gauge the reacton to the local’s nonsense when I indulge in whatever legal rights I still for now as an American. Afraid they are being chiseled away on a daily basis here in the states.
I think the pinch is the one and only way to enjoy snuff and, arguably, the original European method - all the old pictures of snuffers illustrate the pinch method. You get a decent hit and once you have the hang of it its the cleanest method. Ive just had a pinch from my silver box and confirmed it!
Pinching is the way to go if you ask me. I seem to have more control of how much I sniff that way. Tapping it on the back of the hand you can get way too much or too little. There is a bit wasted that sticks to my fingers, but not very much. I also keep my nose a little cleaner by pinching.
And with the back of the hand method you can never tell if you have got some snuff on your face etc, then you get the thing about snuff being a dirty habit. I remember seeing a German politician take snuff on tv during a press conference using the back of the hand method and got it all over his face without realising it, he looked ridiculous.
Thats why I always dab with my hankie. Still haven’t perfected my pinch method btw.
Short and sharp, done correctly, will leave no trace around your nose. Takes a bit of practice, but I can now do it in a second in public if I am choosing to be discrete
I have gotten in the habit of using the thumb dimple but I do pinch when I don’t have a spoon and I am using out of a box or tin. I do find that if you let the pinch warm it is better. in a back to back test pinch wins.
I have found I can take much larger amounts by using the pinch method. Try it. Grab a big pinch, as much as you can pinch, and then spread it on the back of your hand. You will be surprised how much is there! If I tried to sniff that much off the back of my hand, it would go too far and cause me much discomfort, especially with a toast or scotch! But by pinching, the flow is metered, or the snuff is clumped or both. whatever - it works for me!
Help please… I used Pöschls for two months and got used to sniffing from the back of my hand. I rarely pinched. After the Toque order arrived and towler started this topic, I started to try pinching. Actually I can’t backhand sniff Toque because when i do, it surely goes to the back of my throat and makes me cough. To succeed pinching, I inhaled even %100 not %95, tried licking my fingers, put the pinch on the septum of my nose, put the pinch on the pockets of my nose… Alas, I can not stop coughing. Toque and other English snuffs like Kensington are too dry and too fine compared to Pöschl’s. How exactly should I pinch these types? Maybe I should moisten the snuff somehow… It comes to me that since I can not pinch right, Toque and Kensington aromas last very short. I can’t smell any aroma after 1 minute while Pöschl’s aromas last considerably long. Additionally pinching becomes less and less discreet when I try to overcome coughing, fingers in the nose, full chest with breath and all. I’d better be discreet while snuffing in public. I don’t know if this will help but when I pinch toque I put my fingers on the front of my nostril and it helps to keep it in the front of the nose. As for the hand method I put some in my thumb dimple with a pipe tool or spoon. Then I would put my nostril on top of it then gently inhale as I pull my hand away slowly. I hope I have painted a good picture with my words.
