Banjo Scotch SnuffI found this while doing a general snuff search. If you find pics of any lost snuffs, post them here!
This is my donation to the cause. It is long gone and the meory is fading fast. It was my first so it has a place in my hart.
DR RUMNEY’S! Excuse the pun but thats a real blast from the past. One of my first snuffs. Superb.
Yes, I still have one of those tins around here somewhere.
Nice looking tin!
This thread needs some love

It does indeed. Here are a couple from Pöschl and another from J&H Wilson:
A whole bunch of F&T sample tubes and a Gallaher’s Wit & Wisdom:
And finally a couple from Illingworth’s:
Sad to see Railroad Mills Maccoboy on there…
Even sadder to realise I have none left…
Ouch. I gave half of mine to @Xander. I know he’ll put it to use instead of it sitting in my cabinet.
I thought someone is turning up Maccoboy somewhere in Georgia. Anyway, that one above is an old glass one. @gentleman I will try and get some better pics for wiki purposes.
these may be not obsolete but they are antique
Asthoroth - what a fabulous name. What sort of snuff was it? (And would WoS make it again - presumably they have the recipe?)
Unfortunately it’s not just about Wilson’s still having the recipe (which they almost certainly do) but more importantly about being able to find a source for the right tobaccos at the right price. That is likely to present problems. Asthoroth was reputedly prepared using Latakia tobacco, though I’ve never had the pleasure of trying it so I can’t say for sure.
@Xander: There’s a B&M near me that still sells J&H Wilson’s SP #1
yes but they don’t make otto de rose or wallflower.
sadly the impression i got was that the only reason they even had the sp was so they could sell the bullets without raising eyebrows.
@Jack, yes its still a popular snuff. That’s simply an old style tin there. Asthoroth was supposedly Latakia with Jasmine scenting. This little sample tube had no distinctive smell left inside when I got it, just vaugely floral. A fellow on youtube has attempted to replicate some version of Asthoroth using De Kralingse Latakia as a base, and a small measure of WoS Jasmine. Jasmine essential oil would probably work more accurately I think.
Why do you all have pictures of the snuffs i have lost?
i guess this is some “scotch snuff” - not sure.
i guess this is some “scotch snuff” - not sure.
even if it says “chewing tobacco” - the tins just looks like some good ol american scotch snuff
@prismaster I’m also not sure. Although, there is a traditional distinction in labelling between true chewning tobacco and snuff. I’m not famliar with that style of tin or brand of tobacco. I love the label though! Very 1910’s feeling!
The company was making snuff

yeah, it is great. i really like this style too. as you say, i am sure it is around 1890 - 1910. about the label, it could be a bigger container for chewing tobacco as well but i have the feeling that it is a small container.
did they ever pack chew (loose leave or plug) in a metall can ?? i am not aware of that sort of packaging for chewing tobacco.
here we go with some long out-of-production Bernhard: Russischer Augentabak (what actually means: russian eye tobacco)

yes they did. I remember seeing I think it was mail pouch or red man in a metal tin from a long time ago.
