Multiple sources are reporting that Type O Negative lead singer/bassist Peter Steele has passed away at the age of 48 from heart failure. Steele’s death was faked in 2005, but it appears to be true this time around. Type O Negative was one of the most famous goth bands, and Steele was known for being a giant man with a deep voice. He also gained some notoriety for having appeared in Playgirl back in the mid 90’s. Steele struggled mightily with depression and substance abuse. But, in recent interviews it seemed that he had turned his life around. On a personal level, it’s nothing new for the lead singer of my favorite band to die. Now the lead singers of both of my all-time favorite bands are dead (the other is Kurt Cobain of Nirvana). I hope you’ve finally found peace, Pete. | Eric Winkler, ewinkler@kcstar.com Read more: http://www.kansascity.com/2010/04/15/1879032/peter-steele-from-the-band-type.html#ixzz0lCp69y6E
Thanks
Wow! I grew up listening to them. 48 is pretty young still.
Damn, I didn’t really follow them, but my first real concert was Type O negative opening up for Pantera back in 1995.
WTF??? I love Bloody Kisses and October Rust
Its too bad. They were damn good, and without his vocals, there is no Type O anymore. At least he passed quietly in his sleep due to heart failure. RIP
Who ?
I started getting into music in 2002 when I was 13 years old and October Rust was a must have album along with Marilyn Manson’s Holywood and Rage Against the Machine’s self titled album. If you didn’t have those albums then you weren’t cool lol. It’s a shame that Peter has died so young.
I guess this proves he wasn’t a pouser. Never really liked type O, never listened to them much I’ve heard their songs they have videos for. Still it sucks when someone that obviously did this much for people goes away early. At least he didn’t pull an Eric Dolphy.
RIP Peter Steele. Always liked Type O
I found out about this yesterday. Sad indeed.
My favorite band, and I have the tattoos to prove it. I met them many times and saw them play even more. This is very sad. My most memorable story includes drinking chocolate milk that was better than cocaine with their tourbus driver.
