Has anyone had any decent success with grinding up and adding perique to any homemade concoction? I’ve got a fair amount of straight perique tobacco just hanging out and it got me to thinking about what I could do with it.

101% success! Absolutely DO IT! You will not regret it. Perique makes, IMHO, awesome one of a kind snuff. Also makes a great blending snuff.

I have had very good results making snuff out of Perique. Perique makes some great snuff!

What brand of snuff mill should I get? I don’t even have a mill. I need one of those first.

Just use a coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle

Grind and sift to your preference. If you want it more fine, like HDT, I would suggest grinding it up a lot, and sifting it as much as you can. But if you want it more coarse, you know what to do. It’s a lot of fun to make your own snuff, you might be up until 3am, so be warned!

Get it as dry as possible before grinding then rehydrate after. Maybe search this site for other advise.

I was thinking that too. One wouldn’t want it to get gummy during grinding. Messy. Makes me wonder what kind of snuff Gawith’s XXX Black Rope would make–Yikes!

I´m absolutely sure that Roderick will create a Toque Perique Snuff one day. He just has to grow another pair of arms. And a 2nd head, maybe. Until that day, it´s DIY. I´ve only tried using the American Spirit Perique RYO tobacco, which contains 10 % Perique and works, as it is. Using Perique pipe blending tobacco could work as well, but I really don´t think it could be taken straight.

I made snuff with straight 100% pure perique and it was great, awesome flavour with a nice nic hit, but then again I love perique and even smoke it straight sometimes.

Black rope twist makes a strong smoky snuff with big nic hit Perique&black twist might be a good combo, anyone try it?

eBay discovered ‘pill box’. I’m hoping this will work for snuff. We’ll see, but if not at least it’s a nice little trinket box for cheap. It’s almost easier just to use old metal lip balm tins and stuff like that for snuff boxes.

I’ve made some very good snuff from Samuel Gawith St. James Flake, a Virginia/perique pipe blend that is fairly heavy on the perique.

I guess I could try that (making snuff out of) most all of my pipe tobaccos then, huh? Some will probably work better than others…Hmm.
