Packard's Club Tragedy

Packard’s Club Tragedy… Whilst making my regular Poschl order with their UK importer, I was told of the shocking decision to withdraw Packard’s Club from the UK market. Basically I was told that once the ‘English’ labels have run out, no more will be made. I wasn’t really given a reason for this, so fearing the worst (after similar happening with Robbies a while back) I dropped Poschl a line. At first I had good news. No, no, fear not, this is all a mistake… Then a couple of days later I received a retraction of the good news and it was immediately followed with confirmation that Poschl will no longer be supplying the UK with what was originally a UK snuff. I’ve copied the email regarding this on Snuff Store’s blog here - Packard’s Snuff. I don’t know whether this is just a UK thing, or a English language thing. With Robbies I was told that it wasn’t ‘financially viable’ to print the labels in English due to poor sales. I cannot believe this to also be the case with Packards… It’s a really popular snuff! I don’t know what other people’s feelings are regarding this, but knowing how popular Packard’s Snuff is with many people; I think we should all try our best to get Poschl to change their mind regarding this decision. In principle it doesn’t really matter whether Packard’s Club is one of your favourite snuffs. The loss of any snuff at a time of increased interest in snuff tobacco is lamentable. Not wishing to ‘butcher’ John Donne’s ‘No Man Is An Island’ but… “…any snuff’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in ‘snuffkind’; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” So what can we do…? First things first would be to take a moment to write a short email of protest to Poschl. Their email address is poeschl@poeschl-tobacco.de which is freely available via their site. Make them aware of this forum thread. Secondly, make this decision known to all the ‘real world’ snuffers you know and get them to do the same. Thirdly, if you frequent the other places online that snuffers congregate, make them aware of this decision and in the interests of ‘snuff’ get them to do the same. Fourthly, if you have a blog, or other kind of website, link to this thread and use a title like ‘Save Packard’s Club’ in your anchor text link. This is a real SOS - Save Our Snuff… Hopefully we’re not too late to ‘man’ the life boats! Cheers Tim

Alright Tim, I’ll send them a protest email even though its not one of my favorites. I too just hate to see a snuff die in its availability. I really dislike McChrystals O&G but would not want to see it die because I know a lot of people are snuffing because of this snuff. And frankly if something is good to you, thats all that matters. Not everyone can like the same things.

I like the stuff, it has something different then most of their snuffs. The problem though is I only bought one so far, where as when it comes to other snuffs like O&G or S’nuff, I am a repeat buyer. I’m guessing thats because I don’t go through any Poschle snuff as fast due to clogging. Although I would hate to never have the option again… I will drop them a line too.

I put that one on my wish list for next time I order. So many on this forum have enjoyed it I wanted to try it. I would hate to see Poschel’s not in the english speaking world.I will email them today.

Count me in, can’t stand any poschl line but I agree with saving any snuff on principle - we want it all out there

I’m in too. I actually like Packard’s Club once in a while. I don’t really care what language the sticker is in, but I do order it through US or UK retailers. If I had to start ordering it through Rajek’s, (with $25 shipping) I’d just have to give it up. Cheers, Java

I’ll give 'em my 2 cents worth. I have to wonder if it has to do with packaging. They discontinued the Robby’s because it was “too expensive to put the warning in English” (which makes no sense to me, it’s still one label, just with more or less print). Seems like the Packard’s would be their most expensive container. It’s got moving parts and a spring involved. If they really drop it I wouldn’t be surprised to see it come back in a different container before too long, which would suck since it just wouldn’t be the same. The originality of the packaging is what makes Packard’s Club, well, Packard’s Club! OK, I’ll stop rambling

I’ll send an email as well. The preservation of snuff for future snuff users is important. I think to myself what if some of the snuffs I really do love and like had not been available by the time I picked up my interest in snuff. I would have missed out on something wonderful. Even the snuff I don’t care for, if they were not available I would not have had anything to compare them to as well. I always try to remember what the members of this forum told me in the beginning. Don’t throw any snuff away, because I might develop a taste for them later. "There’s a tobacco snuff user out there somewhere in the world that is about to be cut off from his/her favorite snuff, it will be harder for them to find or the price will increase for them to receive that exciting package in the mail. I mentioned to NoseBag once how I don’t even look at the invoice that comes with a package, because I’m so excited that my snuff has arrived. I just rip open the package and get to the snuff. Sad!

Even though I think this is the nastiest snuff ever developed by man I’ll e-mail too.

Hi All, Looks like this has caused a bit of a stir - good! Let’s see if the power of the consumer can triumph… Ta-Ta Tim

I just recieved a couple of Bernard snuffs, and the labels are all in German. They had simply taken a sticker with the warning in English, not a fancy expensive sticker, but the kind you or I would make with our laser printers and a sticker from an office supply store, and placed that over the German warning. It might have cost them a couple of pennies per tin. Is it slick and impressive? No. Do I care? No. I really think there must be another reason. Cheers, Java

It will be a very sad day for me as well if I can’t get any more Packard’s Club. It really is one of my favourites and I would not like to be without it.

The store here by my house has a full case of Packard’s Club. Being that I am the only snuffer in the area- I have no fear of running out of it for a long time…if anyone really needs some and can’t get any- maybe I could go buy up all of his supply and help out?

So I wonder if they’ll stop shipping it to the States as well given the English label. My local shop also thinks that we will be going without as well.

seems so, you do read and speak English don’t you. Or can you get round the warning.

Yea you bloody newbie! Kick…slap…sock…smash…POW! Take that! Slam…bump…BAM! And that! Now…Do you really want to be part of this? Smack…zap…hit…CRASH! Get up you son of your mother! …You re in…Welcome to the forum. Alpina is fairly close to Packard’s Club Snuff. That container though, is priceless. There is still a bit of the club around here and there if you really miss it.

Jeez just askin a question (LOL)

So then…(off topic) are you really a poet? I think there is a thread around regarding tobacco poetry. I could really use some acid inspired poetry if that’s what you got. I’m getting older faster now so some flashbacks could really help my psyche.
