Packaging... it DOES count....

Okay so call me the dumb Frenchman on the forum… but I never realized just how important packaging truly is with a (any) product until a business course I took some years ago now presented us with an assignment in which we were to analyze products we’d QUIT using due to cruddy packing… this has come to play in recent years as we’ve all noticed these CHEAP corporations (mostly USA I dare say) chincing out on packaging (i.e. wimpy thin cereal boxes, thinner water and soda bottles, etc…)… So, this brings to mind ONE PARTICULAR PRODUCT THAT WE ALL KNOW HERE— 41 Photo White Elephant… Now, I’ve had the benefit of knowledgeable folks here BEFORE I ever opened mine, so I had no difficulties-- however, I could see very quickly that it could stand a better packing scheme-- so far as I know, that has been discussed here frequently— so… let’s take a moment to discuss our best and worst of packages… Means a lot-- ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT A LOT GOES THROUGH THE POST  So for me, best tin/easiest tin is WoS so far— the SWS tubs look proper as well-- I LOVE WE 41 Photo, but is DEFINITELY the worst I’ve come across— attractive but NOT effective  Haven’t cut myself yet— but that’d be because mine is now the proud new owner of a mason jar

Have not bought WE yet but 6 Photo packaging when it comes o the metal tins annoys me because it seems like once the seal is broken the lid is what is holding it together. I have had to wrap my last 3 tins (two super chetak and a super kailash) in duct tape just because I was worried about the tin splitting apart. Ah 6 Photo…my favorite snuff brand of all with my least favorite tins of all. lol

If you think WoS tins are good try Toque´s, they are the best, strong & near to airtight, they are so good that I stopped using my snuffbox (I pinch most) and now I carry one as my everyday snufftin. In the aspect department to each his own but I like Fribourg & Treyer a lot and in the effectiveness department (snuff conservation & transport) there´s no competitor that can face them, the only drawback is that you can´t pinch from them… Bottom line, yes, packaging DOES matter.

Toque tins are hard to open when I get sweaty hands from too much of it…a self-fulfilling prophecy…is it deliberate?

I like the South African plastic tubs. They are handy for hydrating dry snuff. I decant so packaging is not so important. As long as it arrives fresh.

Yeah, I should just start decanting — it’s not like I don’t have enough Mason jars lying around… Also a ton of wife’s cold cream jars which would be perfect-- I have to grab them BEFORE she fills them with spices-- she decants every single spice we buy (and that’s A LOT)

Snuff is just a kind of spice.

@JakartaBoy yeah, but it ain’t cumin, aseofoetida (yuck), thyme, mint, curry, allspice, etc… though they make my plain snuffs taste a bit better sometimes… we have been cooking indian, thai and so on for just about 2 decades now so we’ve tons of spices (that aren’t snuff)---- My meaning was that she takes them over and won’t give them to me if I don’t nab them before she fills them…

If I were in the hood, I’d drop in around dinner time. My kind of cooking!

@jakartaboy @basement_shaman here’s one for ya— she had this EXCELLENT night crème jar— it came out clean too, no perfume at all— lock tight lid with a seal and glass jar about 2 inches deep and mouth about 2.5 inches wide-- PEFERCT to decant WE 41 Photo into-- anyhow, my SON of all people (little snuff traitor!!!) grabs it first and puts modeling clay in it (with wife chiming in the whole time, “don’t try to take that jar from him”)… so… I quickly empty my current tin of SQUADRON LEADER— “Hey, little guy… check this tin out with the Brit plane…” and bang… crème jar is mine

The white elephant tins are no where near as bad as some of the other indian snuffs that come in a plastic bag inside cardboard

^ @indiansnuff lol-- is that a warning about my TPS?

@general_desaix they are metal tins

@indiansnuff LMAO— I know, I know… it was the natural response

The esthetics of a silver Sir Walter Scott’s tin with a crisp white round label, the fonts & crest with motto are great. Especially on the 50g tin, with the new larger labels. You can actually read the motto & see the crest better. And the tobacco warning crap is on the bottom so it doesn’t spoil the look. Unfortunately I’m such a mucky pup that my white labels start to look a little tan colour on the edges due to snuff on my fingers.

@lunecat excellent— anything to be rid of those damned “warnings”— I even black mine out sometimes – so aggravating and ugly-- I hate anything that takes away from the crests on something— like football kits— Desaix HATES advertising that just ruins proper decoration on honorable things such as TOBACCO AND FOOTBALL

Snuff is just a kind of spice.

And spice must flow.

@general_desaix be careful not to put too little snuff in too big of a jar. The air space will dry out your snuff.

@lunecat and rest… Becomes clear to me today that SWS has the BEST packaging of any for me thus far-- untouchable, in fact-- should all be so excellent and always willing to pay a bit more for a job well done
