Otrivin nasal decongestant

Does anyone use or used this nasal drops called otrivin for relief of runny nose or cleaning the nose and is it working, thank you

I used this specific 4 years non-stop  Otrivin clears the nose very quickly. Initially, one application is enough for a whole day, after a week already for a couple of hours, and then you spray every hour. It is a perfidious product, because while clearing your nose, it dries out the mucous membrane and forces you to use it again. After a while you fall into a vicious circle, from which it is very difficult to get out. From my own experience, I can say that it was much easier for me to quit smoking after 12 years of smoking than it was for me to quit Otrivin after 4 years of use.

Is it addictive as well  for me it didn’t stop my runny nose it becomes very difficult to stop it even if i don’t use snuff right now, and there is a notice on the otrivin to do not use it more than 5 days or so, and you should trow it if open after one month, but it didn’t work for me, just pray for me brother i van get out of this sick nose i have now and could use snuff again, is it true like they say that snuff actually help with cold in the Head i don’t know what they mean by that, my previous anuff use make me cuch a strong flu that im still afraid to use it again

Sorry to bump this after so long, but I too was warned by a GP that overuse of Otrivine can lead to dependency on it, as @b0n remarked.

These days I use a squirt of Sterimar saline if my tubes are feeling blocked or a NeilMed sinus wash if things get bad.

Yes, using A nasal wash with saline solution is a much better idea, using stuff like Otrivin in the long run leads to a worse effect than what it is meant to stop.

I was talking to a doctor yesterday about this, and he confirmed that Otrivine has a ‘bounce back’ whereby you can be left in a worse condition than when you started, if you overuse it.

He also said that saline washes are the best and kindest to your nose.

If you’re having sinus problems and saline washes don’t do the job he suggested Beconase spray. It’s used for hay fever, doesn’t have a bounce back and contains a weak steroid to help your mucus linings recover. As always, though, don’t overdo it.

I’m not a medic, so the standard disclaimers apply, but I thought I’d pass this on to the community.
