Grateful Dead Beatles Pink Floyd
I listen to too many different kinds of music to be able to pick a top 3, but my absolute number one would be SLAYER
Jimi Hendrix Papa Mali Dada
VENOM Celtic Frost Motorhead
Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Toss up from there, Collective Soul?, Black Crowes?, Tom Petty?..
Nine Inch Nails Skinny Puppy Rush
- Grateful Dead 2. Frank Zappa 3. Traffic
That is tough to name only three, but yea, RUSH has to be on the list somewhere’ As far a influencing folks, (even if you don’t like the music) Grateful Dead should be included as well, imo. So I guess that leaves the Ramones for #3…
Walt, do you collect live Dead shows also?
Black Sabbath Mercyful Fate Judas Priest
aw dang, forgot Judas Priest!!
Gosh, ap…Mercyful Fate is a great choice. King Diamond is a master story teller.
I collect FLAC audio soundboard shows via torrents. Mostly 70’s shows though. Jerry didn’t sound to good in the 80’s.
Donna sounded go on Terrapin Station , imo.
punk: Discharge The Exploited Crass Electro: Kraftwerk Tubeway Army Devo Artrock: David Bowie Ultravox Brian Eno
A top three would be very difficult. Beatles Grateful Dead Jefferson Airplane Unfortunately, I’d be leaving out Mothers Of Invention, Pink Floyd, The Clash, The Jam, Blur, Utopia, Spencer Davis Group. Small Faces, The Byrds…
Current 93 His Name Is Alive and of course Propaganda through Propagation (which is my electronic compositions). I say of course because I was trying to make music I would think was that good. So it’s kind of like having a custom band to listen too.
Siouxsie and the Banshees The Small Faces The Monks
Hey I just turned my Girlfriend onto Siouxsie and the Banshees actualy about 6 years ago I tried to and it didn’t take. Now she loves them. Strange how that happens sometimes.
I met John McGeoch many years ago. (He’s sadly passed on.) Very nice fellow and an incredible guitarist. The opening chord of “Christine” still gives me goosebumps.
disturbed system of a down iron maiden
@simenaa- I loved maiden while growing in the early 80’s. The new album by them is actually good.
Still have a soft spot for maiden disturbed ain’t bad and system of a down is awesome. Very orginal band.
Black Sabbath Metallica Iron Maiden
@polarbear nice waiting for it in the mail
Skinny Puppy, even have a tat. Drum and Bass (in general, the dark stuff) but Ed Rush and Optical are my favorite producers, and all the Front Line Assembly projects.
- Beatles 2. Linkin Park 3. Motorhead 4. Black sabbath 5. Cream 6. Therapy oops, 6, sorry…
1st wave black Metal: Venom Celtic Frost Sodom electro/new wave: Gary Numan Kraftwek Devo art-rock: David Bowie Brian Eno Ultravox(old) 2nd wave black metal: Darkthrone(old) Carpathian Forest Immortal Metal rock: Motorhead Danzig(old) Candlemass(old) UK Punk: The Exploited Discharge Crass USA Punk: Dead Kennedys Black Flag Circle Jerks This list probably shows my age too.
Too drunk to,… write. Kidding. I love playing the “Showroom Dummy” song by Kraftwerk on a box, then leaving, it seems as if other people in this hillbilly place don’t like it. Personally I have 3 albums and like about 2 songs each, but they started the “Industrial Revolution”. I like your punk choices too but I can’t be as old as you? 33?
I’m 43.
Not too bad. Explains the Kraftwerk. We’re you an “O.G.” of punk? As a kid I hung out with punks, but was more into the goth/industrial and rave scenes. I just didn’t like the “goths” or “ravers”, but punks were the coolest as, like me, they just didn’t give a damn. Here’s a band you might know; Amebix. I murdered the spelling but you get the idea. “Drink and be marry, for tomorrow you may die!” “Axeman!”
Oh yeah, I know of Amebix, but their only album I like is Monolith. I didn’t dress in punk fashion, but I was OG punk, I guess you could say. You might dig my band, we are about to release our second album: myspace.com/themightyastrum
I’ll check that out. thanks.
Sweet! You gotta book a gig in La Crosse Wi, Minneapolis MN, and Chicago. Reminds my of early Misery whom I knew the original lead singer for. I’m also a big fan of Big-Black. Here’s a link to a 2 person band which reminds me of Big-Black. I’ve known the drummer for 18 years. http://www.myspace.com/redpensband I was in an industrial band for awhile, I didn’t play, but I produced and programed all the synth voices. I still DJ as a hobby.
Red Pens, not bad. Not really my style though. Kinda reminds me musically of Smashing Pumpkins.
Maybe Smashing Pumpkins meets Big Black. A good buddy of mine was roomates with the bass player for thrill kill cult. There all crack-heads. Red Pens drummer is hot! I’ve been flirting with her since I was 15. She doesn’t look it but she’s 36, she’s aging like a fine wine.
I would have to say… Dethklok Lamb of God and… Cher (post Sonny of course)
Social Distortion Slayer Sublime My tastes vary. Some days it’s metal up your ass, some days it’s chilling reggae… Honorable mention Volbeat, like social d, hooked up with metallica to jam… Great band, they need more u.s. exposure.
There is a trend in your bands brussu they all start with the letter S. I was going to let you hear my band but it starts with a P.
Metallica Dave Matthews Beastie Boys - In Sound From Way Out (try some)
Led Zepplin Grand Funk Railroad…before they went bubble gum ZZ Tops
Bob, I’d love to hear your band. Let me know where to go to give a listen. I’m all about new music!
Nachman, From an accused and self proclaimed Renaissance Guy, is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm-M\\_PxewOU) before bubble gum?
- Kataklysm 2. Nevermore 3. Dan le sac vs. Scroobius pip also, very nice choices, everyone
@Squarefiend:The first two albums: On Time and Closer to home were solid pre bubblegum. Then there was a transition period where some songs were acid rock and others were for teeny bopper consumption. Feelin Allright was a transition song. It is good but not IMHO equal to such titles as Mean Mistreater, Paranoid, Sins a Good Mans Brother etc. Even in the bubble gum period I enjoyed them, but they wern’t World Class to me when they were doing stuff like Were an American Band.
- Agalloch 2. Alcest 3. Warning (UK doom band)
Tool Boris Pain of Salvation @Tomas: Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
@tjg92: Ditto, I love Pain Of Salvation.
Thanks for reply Nachman.
Composers: Prokofjev E-j. Rautavaara(finnish guy) Bach I’m not into modern music much.
The Doors A Polish rock band Kult Tom Waits - not really a band but I love this guy I thought it would be harder for me to pick only three favorites, but now I see that the problems would start if I was to choose, let’s say, 5 or 6, as those 3 have a safe position on my top list.
