M

Terry Gilliam’s Brazil.

M

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is my favorite movie.

E

I wish I could pick just one. But just as sure as I’d say “Casablanca”, I’d say, "Wait - no, make that ‘The Searchers’. Hold on - how about the 1938 ‘The Adventures of Robin Hood’ ? Ooh, ooh, no - ‘Red River’! And so it goes… Heck I couldn’t even choose a favorite director. You want me to choose between John Ford, Howard Hawks or Michael Curtiz ? That’s like asking which of my children I should sacrifice! :^)

G

I like offbeat movies. A couple of my favorites would be Lars and the Real Girl and Let the Right One In. Very important to see the original of Let the Right One In and not the remake.

N

Lord Of The Rings

@cstokes4 , good choice. @Micheltn, also a favorite of mine. I’m big on “classic” horror films (what I consider to be classic, I was born in 1985). I’d be real hard pressed to choose 1 particular, all-time favorite. It might be the directors cut of The Exorcist, or perhaps…The Shining. Though not a horror film (but based on a stephen king novel), I’ve always loved Stand By Me.

R

The first one to come to mind was Local Hero. Also like Cool Hand Luke, Kelly’s Heroes and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. If they show up on TV I always have to watch. Oh yea… and The Dirty Dozen.

M

Yea it is hard to pick a favorite movie. My favorite movies are westerns, no doubt. All the John Wayne/John Ford Calvary movies were great, the Searchers was great. But I am also a huge fan of Gene Autry. He had a lot more B type movies though. The reason I go with The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is for a few reasons. It had some top notch actors in it. It just had everything a western movie should have in it, period.

B

Airplane! Or maybe Strange Brew. I’m a comedy type guy. ( Hey, he asked favorites, not best.lol)

A

ok, changed my mind: La Strada is favourite now.

P

Step Brothers, after just rewatching it on FX. I laugh the entire movie, can’t ask for much more.

G

Oh My, I have opened Pandoras box I should ask, favorite MOVIES, plural. I too love J.R.R. Tolkiens Lord of the rINGS, hate dell laptops…and of course I forgot to mention a great, fantastic movie…drum roll please…A MAN WHO WOULD BE KING…with Sean Connery and Michael Caine. By the way, Roxanne was M. Caines wife! It always reminds me of when snufftaking was the norm. I am a throwback. I am proud to be american, But I feel that in a past life, I was in India…Even dated a gal from there…USHA…and if I might add this. The most beautiful woman in the world…(besides my wife…) was a woman from india whom I met at the Univ of Iowa Pharmacy Dept…I wont bore with details…lovely…dark and wonderful!

P

A

Good list, @PhilipS! Many of my faves there.

J

So is that a list of your favorite movie types too.

J

Impossible for me to give a favorite, but my favorite I’ve seen recently was The Rum Diary…

C

@jbruckus: I’m a classic horror nut as well starting with Nosferatu, Metropolis and Phantom of The Opera. Go to www.millcreekent.com an look under the Horror section. I’ve bought all of the 50 or 100 packs they offer, its a great way to get your hands on a lot of classic B-Movie schlock.

A

Original Nosferatu is truly great film as is Werner Herzog’s remake and also film about making of Nosferatu, Shadow of The Vampire, is good. Max Schrek was real mccoy… Actually, just thinking about favourite Herzog film is really difficult, so many good ones there!

M

Blade runner. edm

T

VERY VERY hard for me to choose. I’m a movie lover I’ll put a FEW on here The “Alien” saga Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Fight Club Pulp Fiction Taxi Driver Drugstore Cowboy Halloween No Country for Old Men

N

@transistor you like Fear and Loathing have you seen Where the Buffalo Roam, its the original starring Bill Murray.

T

Yes I have However I think Depp did a FLAWLESS impersonation of Thompson IMO

P

Fire in the Sky. Watched it as a child and was scarred untill about three days ago.

N

@transistor, yea Fear and Loathing is definately the better one, Depp is such a great actor in fact he’s my favourite actor.

M

Transistor had a good list I think :-P, most of you have favorites that I haven’t seen or haven’t heard of… I will say Fight Club is EXCELLENT, as well as Pulp Fiction. Honestly, I really liked “Inception” . Some people may think it is a stupid movie, but I thought it was excellent. Limitless is also a good one! I’d say watch 'em ! If you have the time

S

Some great choices already mentioned. Psycho (as mentioned by @PhilipS) is one of my personal favourites - also Rope, also by Alfred Hitchcock. In terms of classic horror, besides Psycho I would add Carnival of Souls, many Hammer Horror films (and also from Amicus and Tigon studios), and the older Universal films. Loads of others, of course. Sometimes there are certain actors that can make almost any film well worth watching, like the aforementioned Johnny Depp - also, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Clint Eastwood, Christopher Walken, Vincent Price etc. all have a certain onscreen presence and/or charisma that makes them compelling to watch.

S

I think Martin Scorcese’s Casino is close to the perfect film. It’s a high point in the career of almost everyone involved.

J

Fear and loathing is great. Depp is good and Benicio Del Toro is great too. My brother told me that both Depp and Murray lived with Thompson for a period of time. Although not at the same time. Rum Diaries does look interesting too. @Pot Poe - That movie creeped me out as a kid too. Especially since its…“based on a true story”…lol @Sloth - Carnival of souls +1. @cstokes4 - You must have quite the collection. Im jealous! Once in a while I’ll come across an ol’ gem on Netflix. Lots of B movie horror on there. For a newer one, I thought “Insidious” was a pretty creepy movie. Espescially for a pg-13 flick. The Grudge was a pretty creepy movie to watch alone in the dark, for being pg-13, as well.

B

Hard to pick just one… Memento Requiem for a Dream Napoleon Dynamite Reservoir Dogs Dean Spanly Bad Boy Bubby Withnail & I This is Spinal Tap Sling Blade Man On Wire Devil’s Rejects I could go on and on…

B

man i couldn’t disagree with you guys more but then again some great movies.

P

Just off the top of my head… Reservoir Dogs The Thing (hope the remake is as good as the original) Army of Darkness Disaster Movie Star Dust Serenity The Wrong Turn series of movies (they make me so proud)

T

@Pennanngalan The Thing the Kurt Russell one was already a remake of a 1951 Howard hawks movie.

H

After having spent several years with a lot of Greeks, I must say that I have a special place in my heart for: My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Everything except for the Windex bit is absolutely true!

T

@mikemoose I completely agree. Inception, Limitless, and there’s a few other new movies that were good. Inception is incredible IMO.

T

OMG I can’t BELIEVE I forgot a movie on my list… GOODFELLAS

N

looking forward to seeing the rum diary. i’ve always wanted them to make a movie of that novel.

P

Just one film? Can’t do it. But many of my favorites have already been named above, so I’ll restrict myself to my favorite film of the last ten years: “V for Vendetta”.

B

I know it’s cliche to ask but have you read the graphic novel? It’s vastly superior to the movie in every way. I’ve not meet one person who saw the movie and then read the graphic novel who didn’t feel it was way better.

P

@ theratroom - Huh…didn’t know that. I hope the re-make of the re-make is as good as the re-make. I’ll add Puppermasters (with Donald Sutherland though the black-and-white was also good) and Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment. @ Bob - The only movies on the planet better than the book is Carrie and Christine by Stephen King.

T

@bob if you like the graphic novel try and get warrior. The British comic where it all began. And the original strips where in black and white too.

G

“Into the wild” of Sean Penn, story of a man who goes after his minds.A hard and true movie like Wild.

B

Cool! Though pennanngalan reminds me of a great joke I’ve told here before (it’s a favorite so deal with it.) A guy is in the movie theater and a gentleman sits down in front of him with a dog. After the movie is over he notices the gentleman and the dog discussing the movie. He says “Oh my god a talking dog I can’t believe it”! Then the dog turns around and says “You think that is amazing, this movie was better then the book.”

K

Either ‘A Bridge too Far’, or ‘Zulu’. The two best films ever made in my opinion. Short and sweet, unlike ‘Bridge’.

B

@Bob and keeping on topic, best/worst talking dog movie would be “A Boy and His Dog” featuring a young Don Johnson. Terrible movie but the twist at then end makes it all almost sufferable.

M

@transistor : Goodfellas is an AMAZING movie! And yeah man Inception was a masterpiece IMO . I still watch it from time to time . OH! Another good movie… Blow

P

Did anyone say Ghostbusters yet. Fond memories of childhood always emerge w/that.

N

who you gunna call?

M

Snuff Busters

S

I’d have to go with Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas

T

…it’s the Stay-Puffed Marshmallow Man.

B

O Brother Where Art Thou is another classic I left off my list.

N

@transistor.

Ray… the next time someone asks you if your a god… you say YES!
