Since Snuffy P.M. said he was a painter I thought I’d open a line of discusion to show of visual arts here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dabob23/2187402993/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/dabob23/628914954/sizes/o/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/dabob23/50059336/sizes/o/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/dabob23/43366524/sizes/o/ copy and paste the web addresses to see the art.
I paint, mostly acrylic. One of my canvasses - a portrait of a friend - is on flickr, its on the entry for ‘rich tourist’
what is your name on flickr? cause I can’t find it man
I paint cars, trucks & occasionally things such as motorcycle tanks etc. I do some hand painted pinstripes on occasion.
Bob, I don’t have an account or whatever its called, my painting is on my friends bunch of photos and the name he uses is ‘richtourist’ if thats not enough to search on ill get the details off him, sorry i don’t even remotley know about this stuff
i do a little bit of folk art type stuff to sell at my farmers markets. birdhouse gourds animals on rocks or flower scenes stuff like that, nothing special but every now and then something turns out extra good and i keep it for myself and put it in the flower garden, or just on display in my dad’s taxidermy shop.
When you scratch the surface, we really are quite an arty bunch, seems like most of us play an instrument and paint, maybe thats snuff takers for you?
cool I’ll check that out. Johndeere love to see some of your crafts, since I never take someones word on their work when they say it’s nothing special. Hey just checked it out very cool. Strange piece indeed. Really like the use of light.
well, so far i don’t play an instrument tried guitar for a little while but i failed miserably, my fingers are to short and fat, good for hard work just not plucking strings lateley i have been trying the harmonica pretty slow so far but shows alot more promise then the guitar. and bob i prolly won’t have any good picks till summer as that’s when i’ll be back on the farm (which is where i do most of the crafts).
Here is a painted carving I did about 2 years ago. His name is Prayer Times. The battle is over and he is thanking God he has survived. I also like to do southwestern landscapes in watercolor and/or gouache.
Bob, if you type in ‘brother nige’s painting of brother rich’ its there. along with some pictures of us
I can’t get yours up bob and he is so cute jarhog!
I too must confess to being a part time artist. I paint mostly acrylics, but also some oils. It’s very dark in Danmark during the winter months, but when spring comes, I’ll be taking my easel and box out in the field again.
Well, I paint as opposed to regarding myself as an artist. I enjoy it a lot but have very little skill, but it is one of the greatest stress relievers I know.
Bob, can you post a picture here of your work, try as I might I can’t get anything to come up on flickr
I do a bit of painting with acrylics… The skeletons are 10mm high. And then there’s these guys:
Figures also 10mm high. It keeps me out of mischief anyway!
I can’t play any instruments, neither do I paint but I do snuff a lot!!! Can that also be classed as an art?? I did some jewellery designing although I cannot make the stuff myself. I designed wedding rings for both me and my wife when we got married for the second time. I also wear a ring with my family crest and a disc around my neck which are my own designs. It seems as if snuffers are not just ordinary people, unlike cigarette smokers. Pipe and cigar smokers also seem to be a little “otherwise”.
tony great job on the minatures. Wow there is definatly some talent on this list.
my bathroom
Actually, It’s a shade of green called Boc Choy. It came out alittle more lime then we thought. Meh… can’t take it off now.
yup painted all of them except the ones I drew.
like the rose. I’am the opposite I move too fast when doing a lot of things. Snuffs actualy helped me slow down a little bit as it takes some care to snuff properly.
Snuffy PM - the name is a take off from another carving i have of a cowboy with his finger through a hole in his boot. That carving has been in the family for 40+ years. When it came out that he had his head bowed it just seemed correct. The carving is in the wood the carver just has to remove what is not the carving.
Thats how Michaelangelo used to see his sculptures apparently, already there in the marble and his job was to remove the stone around them.
alot of time when I paint or write a song I don’t have much of a plan it does seem as if sometimes the art already exsisted like it just needed to be found not made.
And if you check my flickr page dabob23 you can see “silence” my most recent painting.
oh just added two versions of a newspaper vandalization too.
there you go sir. I like the churchill. Very strange but cool.
there is nothing strange about liking Churchhill.
Nothing wrong with strange. Hell I’ve been told I’am one of the strangest people I know. (yes other people have told me that). Here’s a good qoute from Burroughs about critics (a bit long). Critics constantly complain that writers are lacking in standards, yet they themselves seem to have no standards other than personal prejudice for literary criticism. (…) such standards do exist. Matthew Arnold set up three criteria for criticism: 1. What is the writer trying to do? 2. How well does he succeed in doing it? (…) 3. Does the work exhibit “high seriousness”? That is, does it touch on basic issues of good and evil, life and death and the human condition. I would also apply a fourth criterion (…) Write about what you know. More writers fail because they try to write about things they don’t know than for any other reason. – William S. Burroughs, 'A Review of the Reviewers

very nice stuff all! My wife and I do jewelry. Here’s a bit of my stuff, need to update though. http://h0ss.deviantart.com/
I have about 6 oil paintings in the works, i’ll have to post some links.
This is the finished portrait of me, painted by my friend the Stuckist artist Ella Guru: I think it’s pretty good.
I think it’s pretty good as well - I like the No Smoking Sign and all the snuff and snuff boxes
Ah, we’ve been waiting for this! If memory serves, that is very much like the photo (with some artisitic licence of course). I can practically read the names of all the snuffs! I don’t see my Dean Swift though.
Oh, it’s there, Xander - in the pile of tins to the left. Patrick’s boxes are representing, though!
nice
Looks comfortable toffeenose, inviting.
It’s very good, but she could have livened up that London beer LOL!
It’s a pepsi snuff head. Just a pepsi.
@ bob: How very dare you, sir! i have never been so insulted etc. etc…
Damn fine portrait.
Very nice portrait! All the tins and snuffboxes and shadows really keep a person’s eyes moving around the painting-well done!
sorry :(. I have to agree pepsi doesn’t compare to coke.
@ Roderick: Yes, it is, that was the last painting she finished before this one. Are you familiar with her work? @ bob: LOL!
Wonderful painting!
Well any painting with a cat is cool.
Thanking you kindly, Mr bob!
Awesome! It really turned out well. Of course I noticed the PC snuffboxes, especially the double snuffbox, right away. Made my day to see some of my art immortalized in your art.
That is definatly cool. Though here is the only portrait I’ve ever painted it’s a self portrait. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/32/43366524\\_7b1767bfdb\\_o.jpg. That is so cool to have someone feel you’d make a good subject. Which you do. You’re interesting looking (like if I saw that painting with no background info, I’d say who the heck is that, what are they into besides snuff). Plus your certainly handsome (old school defintion not the good looking man definition). p.s. I tell my girlfriend she’s “truely” handsome often.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3314/3442546823\\_c746fe8b05\\_b.jpg Shit I forgot about this painting. Which was actualy a portrait of a random person from a photograph.
not so much of a painter, but I work digitally with Photoshop and Illustrator, and I like to play with 3D programs like Poser and Maya. Eventually (very soon actually) I’ll have my portfolio website completed and I’ll post a link here
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2729/4519057775\\_be641555cb\\_o.jpg Not really a painting.
@jarhog I love your civil war guy. I’ve always loved the civil war and wanted to paint/create something that was civil waresque… You may have re-inspired me. I do a lot of drawing and painting, Here’s just two of my paintings. I’m in a life drawing class now so my newer stuff has a bit more third dimension…
This is a good thread I hadn’t seen until now. Thanks bob and others. Good stuff.
thank you too.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dabob23/5186337696/ Made this on monday. I think I captured how I was feeling really well even if the scanner didn’t capture it too well.
some good paintings there bob . i like the colo(u)rful skull one i recently sold my first painting so i can tell people i am a artist now ha
that is awesome I almost sold a piece once. Long story I didn’t feel it was good enough to sell. The person agreed sort of. She told me she bought art as an investment that she’d buy art from unknowns if one of them gets famous well she’ll have one of their early work (I presume to sell back to them to avoid embarresment.) Thanks.
i was in my first artshow in december sold one so that makes a grand total of two
( no longer a one hit wonder ha ) i paint kinda abstract stuff i will upload a few crappy cell phone pics later
ah well couldnt get them to upload
My artist website is: www.timsparling.com
