Falco - Jeanny
oh man!!! I haven’t heard them in years!!! You ever listen to day glow … ( i won’t bother finishing the name of the band…) Good old fashioned Canadian Punk Rock!! At the moment I’m listening to Frank Zappa. Hot Rats…Willie the Pimp.
the dayglow stopers I guess would be the p.c. way to say their name. some music in my head might make it to a song this time.
whoa, whoa, whoa!!! SNFU the best Canadian punk band.??? They rock but, not the best. without naming off a trillion other canadian punk bands to make it look like I’m a know it all, I’ll just say 3 words… NO MEANS NO!!! The best all time canadian punk band. Hands down!!
sorry dude. These guys were around before SNFU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomeansno
lol! I was just being a prick! SNFU are classic. I just have to wave the flag every now and then. When revisiting, check out the " kill everyone now" album. made in the 90’s but one of the best!! P.S I’m more of a Bad Religion Fan anyway…
agalloch - not unlike the waves. favourite song at the moment. apart from that everything that is melodic and monotonous enough not to get on my nerves. black metal, trance, some ska stuff, monotonous jazz and blues. preferably without vocals.
I listened to Jack Johnson today while I did some landscaping. Oh and I was chewing a piece of cannonball plug that I dipped in Brutons. Talk about yummy.
I’ll listen to just about everything except opera & classical. But my preferred music is the old classic country & bluegrass, none of that new country that is more like pop music. Also like classic rock. And bands like Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis. When I was younger I was into things like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Wham.
Never had days work but its nearly identical in appearance except for the label.
I’m not an 80’s child but I was still young in the early 80’s. At that same time my older brother was really into Iron Maiden, Quit Riot, Judas Priest, Def Leppard.
Therapy, System of a Down, Motorhead, Eric Clapton
TBF - Data
Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
Classic album Tim. I’m listening to Suedehead- Best of Morrissey at this moment in time.
Right this minute? Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell. Cheers, Java
Hood, outside closer. Interesting band definately I almost call them trip hop but they’re too good for that. accidently find musicly though. It’s beena while since I’ve listened to it.
and now… blues breakers. Beano Album
Superb choice, thatsthe album where he started to define his style IMHO, then the magnificent Cream.
Cream is awesome yet I blame their rythm section for that. Then again I’am a bass player that might have something to do with it.
Right now I am listening to ESPN Sports Radio, but as far as music goes, my musical tastes are all over the map. I like most music, except country…I grew up listening to the same stuff as Trouts brother: Priest, Maiden, Scorpions, (all 80’s metal before Poison and Winger ruined it lol) etc… I do find myself mellowing out some the older I get. I guess my favorite band of all time is Pink Floyd.
Yeah, all good choices and floyd are a great band. My tastes go all over the place as well ; from Handel to Motorhead, who I’ve seen several times and seeing them again in November. I can’t really think if a form I don’t like (manufactured bubble gum shit being the exception)
I listen to audio books on my commute. Finishing up David Copperfield by Dickens. Before that was The Count of Monticristo. Good stuff.
too whiney, I would go for Clapton for that era, when he was not bombed on smack
Thyme - Forever We Can Make It!
Falco - The Sound of Musik
I’m listening to my wife say, " i don’t understand why you snort that crap up your nose when it just makes you stuffy an hour later, then you have to use a ortavin to be able to breathe, then you do it again. And it’s in surround sound my friends!!!
nightcap, through meditation you can tune that noise out. Or just grab your wine thief and go visit a cask…LOL
done and done! plus, i’m off otrivin and on to the nette pot.
i figured out a way to hook up my i-pod top the radio in the tractor. Now I’ve got all types of Hendrix just cranked!! If you can imagine going to a winery, just about to walk inside and notice, Foxy Lady coming from the vineyard somewhere… LOL!
nightcap, I’m pretty good friends with one of the winery owners near by, his winery is called Amador Cellars. I like to stop by and chat with him when I’m out wine tasting or happen to be in the area. When I show up & he’s not busy with customers, he always grabs his thief and we go in the back to sample some barrels. The last time I talked to him he told me about the new tractor he bought that had air conditioning and satellite radio. He was all proud like a strutting peacock. This sign is from one of the wineries down the road from my friends winery. They have these caution signs all along the highway near their winery. They also have clothing for sale in the tasting room with this logo. I have a shirt and love it. Its great. They also sell the signs but without the ‘Bray Vineyards’ printed on it.
slowdive. Awesome melancholy rock band that got fucked forever by their label. Just have to say I hate the major record labels it’s amazing they’ve stayed in bussiness primarily through their own mythololgy and now want to blame theift on their loses when really it’s their own poor practices not downloads that make them pointless. Sorry for the rant.
( ) by Sigur Ros. Beautiful, beautiful album. Stefan
No lie… I just put in John 5… the devil know my name. Normally I’m not into that heavy dark stuff, but it’s all intsrumental, and John 5 is an amazing guitarist!! Worth a listen. You ever hear chicken pick’n in metaal form? hmmmmmm???
R.I.P. Isaac Hayes who died yesterday @ 65. No more chef.
I loved his voice! Too bad. R.I.P
Yes, Chef and his chocolate salty balls… Great singer & great south park character.
Einstürzende Neubauten - Tabula Rasa. Great Album.
yes it is.
Toxicity - SOD and One cure fits all - Therapy, at the moment
Madredeus from Portugal! Lounge style very intelligent and inspiring music. I used to be a full-time musician back in the 80s, then got into the Goa/Techno scene. Then switched to playing the Saz, and now I’m painting instead :o))) My neighbors are very happy for that I believe :o) I love Classical, Balkan, Byzantine chant, and Lounge/Epic/Chill out.
David Byrne & Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today
motorhead
i’ve just downloaded the best of CANNED HEAT. who’s got the boogie blues?
joy division of course
Queen - Under Pressure / Live At Wembley '86 (Disc 1)

travolta iz borce grede http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trZTOzb2i48
I know you all are talking about music but I’ve been listening to the same (sattelite) radio station in my jeep for two years straight… HOWARD STERN RULES!!! BABABOOEY I apologize to those of those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about.
IS there a free net stream of Howard Stern,or is it only satellite?
Not that I know of, roam. I just listen to it in my car.
BB1, I’ve heard his comercials, but never listened to his show. I think he does mostly sports, right? I really just can’t turn Stern off, I’m addicted, no suprise I guess.
Howard Stern is pretty cool though I tend not to find him entertaining. Though I listened to an interview today stern did with one of my biggest heros Bill Hicks!
Rory Gallagher and some Schostakovich later
Queen - Radio Ga Ga
Social D rocks.
Tonight I’m listening to Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, Herman’s Hermits, and Barry Manilow. Hooray for Rhapsody
Porcupine Tree!
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
The Faces Ooh La La.
The Smiths for me today. Stefan
Somebody mentioned Monte Christo. Well, the only Monte Christo I like is Monte Christo Cigars!! Elvis Presley, Moon Rakers, Country and Western, Jim Reeves, Old Blue Eyes, Bing Crossby, Pat Boone, Maria Callas, Cat Stevens and…TOM BUCK !!
SnuffPM, I’m was born during WW11, 1944 !! I don’t know whether that makes me an “Old Guy” !!! You tell me. SRV fan?? For sure!! Regards Pieter
The pillows awesome J-Rock band. Seriously awesome stuff. Actualy discovered them by watching a japanesse television show F.L.C.L. which is an amazing animae anyways. I remember thinking holy shit who is this band good thing for credits. Definatly worth a check out on either one if you’ve never checked it out.
A little old timing today with ‘the essential hank snow’.
Some good ol’ Johnny Cash right now.
Johnny Cash is Good
Dave Brubeck at the moment. With respect to being ‘good’ enough to play live, I think many, many more people could do it than give themselves credit for. Ive been playing live for 30 years now and along the way Ive played with a great deal of ok musicians, a couple of genuises, but only a tiny amount of what I would call bad ones. Playing live or with other musicians can transform a basic ability into something far more powerful, because music is a language and language is only much use when its used to communicate. I would recommend anyone that wants to do it just to get on and give it a go, you may be surprised at what you can do.
yep, and of course its difficult to quantify it not working out, there are plenty of folks out there having a great time not being very good!
all you need is an instrument. No skill required. Though one rule I’d love to teach all musicians playing louder doesn’t make you sound better!!!
unfortunatly no. Just a crapy career with a small period of lots of money. But you’ll still owe them sons of guns your soul cause of some terrible contract. (yes I consider the recording industrry to be in with the devil.
I definatly agree snuffyPM. I just have a special ire against the recording industry. It’s basicly a big scam that is poorly run. All you get is a loan that you wouldn’t take from a bank and tempromental promotion. In fact here’s a sugestion if you ever get a record contract to sign, take the sucker down to the bank with a bussiness proposal and you’ll end up with a much better deal. Oh love your sense of humour by the way.Definatly hope you get my jokes as well as they can be a little off-centre. On another serious note people certainly over-value money. I think money is nice to have but at what cost. I also think they forget they have a spirit
humour is important. so is spirit so is music. Though right now I’d think of trading it all for a stronger cup of coffee.
My amp goes to 11, but then Ive never claimed any talent. Im currently in the market for one that goes to 15.
I can’t stand greed. I find that although I’am not a christian I really agree with the bible on a number of key points. That the spirit is the most important aspect of exsistence and closer to our true selves. Though having said that I will say that the way I like to sum up my feelings on the evil of money is this… Wanting more money isn’t greedy wanting a lot more money isn’t greed. Greed is when the desire for money is the end all and be all and trumps moral concerns. I see a lot of people who want money and more money in a large part to have more then others in a sadistic competitive way. I also see a lot of people that think live is a game where money is the point system, I honestly believe that some people this actualy comes from a very twisted twisting of christianity. As if they have money because god prefers them to others which allows them to abuse the others to get it (funny thing is how obviously unchristian that is). Just thought I’d state these thoughts. And thank Snuffy P.m. for seeming like the kind of guy I’d love to shot the shit with about philosphical stuffs. (which there are lots of cats here that would be great for that). P.s. forgot to add I’am not trying to judge anyones religion in fact I’am the kind of person whos more interested in the common ground so to speak. p.p.s. HDT is amazing. I thought a stronger snuff would last longer instead of disapearing so fast.
And His blessings on you SnuffyPM. I was ‘dunked’ in the old fashioned way as a tenager so know about 'real Baptists! I’m about to be recieved into the catholic church but have a lot of time for you old Baptists. What a lot of people don’t get is that ‘religion’ is man made - in my view God doesn’t figure in religion much, which I see as a kind of twisted beurocracy placed in front of God by man. Its religion that causes the wars, not God.
I used to be a catholic. All I have to say is to this day I still have a thing for inscense and crazy religious get ups. I agree that at it’s best religion is a relationship, I personaly feel how ever you get there is not really that important but what you get from it. I don’t really think religion is really the cause of wars as much as a justification an I don’t really need an honest excuse to wage this war. I love how often times the people who will wage war and use religion as an excuse will be so cut and paste about which rules matter and which ones they can just ignore. Though I will say I find it funny when paper catholics pretend that confession is a reset button in a game of tag, people you’ve got to really mean it for it to work. You have to really be sorry like shit I’am glad I don’t kill mofos anymore and I wish I never did because it’s really bad not the ole I have to wait till saturday to cheat on my wife every week. Again just some thoughts.
Justice D.A.N.C.E. Mstrkrft Remix
Deltron 3030 If you like rap or especialy if you think that rap isn’t creative or musical check this stuff out. It’s intelligent crazy and musical.
I’am going to jump in and say I think he snuffy may have meant argue about religion. Though one thing to remember is all meaning in words is made up. Which means they are very very flexible and do not have any meaning set in stone so to speak. So I think it is probably best for everyone if we just dig that we aren’t even talking about excatly the same thing even if we are using the same words.
Currently listening to The Avett Brothers. BigBlue, I’m diggin the Fleet Foxes as well. And bob, I haven’t heard much Deltron, but I am a fan of Del’s solo stuff and his Gorillaz work. In fact, I was listening to Del’s first solo record last week, circa 1990. Good stuff.
del is awesome.
SnuffyPM, how do you understand and interpret Daniel 9: 25 - 27? I would really like to know what you think of it. Regards Pieter
One the subject of killing joke. Recently listened to Prong again used to be a favorite of mine and I can tell you they still rock. @ Snuffy no problem. Religion and spirituality are complex rich subjects that seem to bring out the worset in message boards sometimes (at least on this one it’s never very bad, unless a yak is involved). I’ve was on a music list where I got “Crucified” verbaly for saying that being christian doesn’t make someone bad. (the list was for a band named Coil who are an openly pagan band). Some jerks on that list where mad that after one of the memebers died that one of his close friends (who is very christian) organized a tradional christian ceremony for the dead band memeber. Thankfully it never gets that stupid on this list as everyone here seems to be genuinly polite.
that list is mostly haters. Which is horrible considering the band is very talented.
Eric Clapton, that’s my boy !!!
Yeah I knew about vincent. One of my inspirations. Not only do I snuff and write music I also paint watercolours mostly. Yeah the guys in the band where not haters at all quite the opposite. Most of the haters on that list where artistic hacks who I think some how thought that their chronic bitterness would make them feel as if no one knew who they where because their music was lame but because the whole world is so lame instead. Never been much of a don mclean fan in fact I really didn’t even know if he did any other song then american pie. I’ll check out the other song, listening to prince at the moment who is an amazing guitarist as well as other at I think every other instrument. One of my other heros also was drawn to the ministery but again haters “James Joyce” I think Dubliners is really where his christian side comes out the most. Great book! I forget the term but it basicly means showing the divine and magical subtly in the divine which I think he really pulls off in that book. A good book for the hermeneutics people to read.
Six Feet Under is cool ! Chris Barnes rocks!!
I love Six Feet Under’s Graveyard Classics 1&2. Guttural growling to classic rock/metal is friggin sweet. Besides that though, I mostly stick with power/speed/neoclassical metal.
James Joyce is a really crazy writer all his stuff is great. Though don’t start with finnegans wake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnegans\\_Wake Unless you really want to stretch your brain out.
I read The Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man about 7 years ago. It was perfect for the inner struggle I was facing at the time coming to terms with my own identity. I’m not yet brave enough to attempt Ulysses (its sequal). I’ve also read Finnegan’s Wake and some short stories. He was an incredible writer. Probably the cream of the crop of many other brilliant Irish writers.
Currently listening to a morning talk show here in Orlando called “Monsters in the Morning” on Real Radio.
Love James Joyce definatly a hero of mine.
There’s a good song by Cream about Ulysses. Just thought I’d randomly add that as I’ve never read it.
good song though.
MANOWAR !!! Kings of Metal
Yeah, I know the Cream song “Tales of Brave Ulysses.” Its a good song. I think its more based on The Odyssey by Homer. At least by title it is. Ulysses is the Roman name for Odysseus. Joyce’s Ulysses has nothing to do with any of that. I think the only similarity is one man’s personal Odyssey of himelf. Havn’t read it though. Sorry to hijack your muic thread with literature. The only thing I am listening to now is wind and rain.
Well at least I know 100% more about Ulysses than I did before.
Ahh, I just realized, ap is from the heavy metal center of the world, Brazil! Manowar isn’t quite my thing, but I love Angra and some Shaman.
I have not listened to Man O’ War in a long time. I wish I had a CD so I could play it at a high volume in my truck. I puled out my old Testament CDs the other day and I have been alternating between them Skrew and Hyden symphonies on my commutes. Metal and classical my two favorites.
The reason joyces story is named Ulysses is because before writing it he choose a date in the future to base his next novel on. Then when that day came the headline on his local paper was about the cargo ship Ulysses sinking in the bay.
Yeah Sychodelix we have great bands indeed !!! Love Testament Jarhog
Painting the bathroom to Blood, Sugar, Sex Magic… Nothing like a little chili peppers to make a terrible job tolerable!
redheaded blonde the album 23. The closest comparision I could make is an american radiohead with a asain female singer with a gorgeous voice. Very atmospheric and beautifull.
Randy Travis. Just some random songs of his.
I’m listening to Morrissey’s latest greatest hits album. Thats how People Grow Up is an amazing song well worth a listen. Stefan
The Chameleons album script of the bridge. Amazing stuff. Any other fans???
Smashing Pumpkins Pisces Iscariot A great album of rare trax and b- sides
i’ve been on this pumpkins thing for the last week. I love Frail And Bedazzled !!! Plus… if you CRANK PLUME you can actually see your windows rattle! Also their version of the Animals A Girl Named Sandoz …
Chris Connelly. Haven’t listened to his solo stuff much. Forgot how good it is. I guess I would classify his style as industrial rock and roll. Nothing metal or hard rock about his stuff, its good stuff though.
Right this second - The Velvet Underground: Murder Mystery (from the 3rd album).
Tortoise. Damn it shouldn’t they be slower with a name like that.
Martin & La Talpoj - Pli ol Nenio. A brilliant indie album from an Esperanto speaking singer and band. Stefan
Rory Gallagher’s first (eponymous) album. Rory Gallagher’s music accompanies a good snuff well.
This very second: Interpol - The Heinrich Maneuver
Charles Mingus - Open Letter to the Duke
100.3 WKIT stephen kings radio station over the internet as im in england lol Simon
Dave Brubeck - Take 5
Wow, i’m surprised at some of the things I’m seeing up here: Psychic TV, Interpol, Moz, Parzifal. Pleasantly surprised. I’ve only been listening to music in the car lately (which is a lot of the time, as I am a pizza deliverer). Lately it’s been a mix cd I made that is mostly made up of songs by I Would Set Myself On Fire For You and A Minor Forest. Aside from that, I’ve been listening to Morrissey’s new album a lot. Too bad I’m probably gonna miss him when he comes to Chicago next month.
Take 5 is awesome. I didn’t realise Morrissey had much of a following on the other side of the pond. I like the sound of his new band, he played live on a chat show over here and they were pretty tight, his voice was good as well.
He’s got a fanatically loyal cult following over here. What we don’t make up for in numbers we make up for in eerie obsession. But yeah, the band he’s been playing with is great. I think it’s mostly composed of guys who played with him on Your Arsenal (which I think has my favorite sound of all his albums). So I guess being into Morrissey, like being into snuff, is less of an anomaly in the UK than it is here, eh?
At this second Kid Cudi - Day and Night 8-]
@midnightmusic (sorry I forget how your name goes) Psychic T.V. If they could just kick that major “A”-hole Gen out of the band then they might be transcendant! (don’t worry I’ve earned the right to call gen what ever I want to, actualy more honestly he’s earned being called whatever anyone wants to). Though I’ve always considered P.T.V. to to be the industrial occult scene equivalent of a Gratefull Dead mixed tape i.e. a lot of self-indulgant wankery with the occasionaly extremely brilant moments that make it worthwhile to call them a briliant band. If you like their early stuff check out alernative Television (the band Alex Ferguson was in before P.T.V.). God damn though love some P.t.v. but dang do I hate Mr/ms porrage. Me I’am listening to some Meat Beat manifesto which is worth checking out if you want to see what an actual musician can make techno or electronic music sound.
over here morresiy doesnt’ have fans he has followers. I think I’am the only person I know who feels netrual about morresy i.e. he’s good not really my cup of tea though the smiths are awesome. Everyone else either loves are hates him.
I Want To Break Free (Live At Wembley 1986) [Queen]
Suzanne Vega - Room off the Street (ps. Good to see some Dave Brubeck fans )
faith no more at the moment. The early stuff. M.m. One of the crazier nights of my life I got some entertainment through pain (it’s amazing what you can get a d.j. to do if they like your musical taste). My favorite offshot of T.G. is definatly Coil especialy when they get a bit jazz (most of the rest is great but) so of course the musick to play in the dark volume 1 and 2 are probably my most played. Well M.m. check out on my space “propaganda thru propagation” it’s my industrial project. Alot more jazz then is usal. It’s only four of my songs on there I mean to change them up a little bit more often. P.s. dave brubeck isn’t a favorite. Still cool though.
FUGAZI!!!
Hells yeah!!!
Up with the Irons!
Maiden’s “A Matter of Life and Death” is phenomenal! This album blew me away. Most progressive work yet. Maiden is pretty much the only metal I listen to with any regularity. You guys have got me wanting to put it on now and crank it, but the wife is asleep, so its a a matter of my own life or death. I’ll have to save it for tomorrow when she’s at work. Damn! That’s harder than waiting for snuff to arrive!
Pantera… Far beyond driven
talk talk. I don’t even know if I like any other songs they’ve made but the song new grass is awesome.
I’m generally very incredulous of ‘indie rock’, but I’m listening to a band called Titus Andronicus right now, and they’re seeming pretty good so far.
Paradise Lost : Draconian Times
Ap,i used to work with lee morris until last october. He used to be the drummer. Good bloke for a brummy anyway lol Simon
birthday massacre. Awesomly more creative take on goth. Before that Jawbreaker spawners of horrible bands but awesome themselves.
Nox Arcana has been my companion for the last few weeks. I love the gothic sound.
Not too old for this?
the legendary pink dots. The album “chemical playchool 8+9” P.s. is it just me or did leslie cry a lot???
“A Quick One While He’s Away” -The Who
I loved Op Ivy. I haven’t listen to Faith No More in a while but last night a had Mr. Bungle cranked!
hey was just talking about op ivy how strange.
The first show I ever went to was Iron Butterfly. I was about 4 or 5 and my mother and aunt were going and could not find someone to sit with me. That would be considered child abuse today. In the late 60s naked hippies and pot smoke so thick you could cut it with a knife was the norm. AHHHH the good old days. Too bad I was too young to enjoy it.
I’m been rockin’ to the new Satyricon, The Age of Nero, and Ihsahn’s, AngL lately. Not bad at all, though I liked the previous Satyricon more. I am impressed with the Ihsahn, though, first I have heard of his solo stuff. Tom502
Satyricon? I love Nemesis Divina!
My first show was a grindcore band called Chaotic Circus, at a place called the Thirsty Whale, which was closed down shortly afterward. It was an interesting experience for a fourteen year old.
Don’t know what my first show was. Though Bad Religion is freaken awesome. Plus some bands are really good live, I once saw the mighty mighty boss tones live and well I don’t like their albums much but it was an amazing show. The best show I’ve been to I certainly remember Sonny Rollins. Worst band I’ve seen live Limp Biscuit before they where famous they where so bad and lame I tried to get into a fight with fred dirt (or what ever his name is). Second worst band I’ve seen live Pigface (and I accidently told Martin ATkins about how funny it was to see him fall). @ atari faith no more fans well the one time I saw limp biscuit they where opening for faith no more. Faith no more is awesome.
I think my favorite Satyricon is Volcano. Seems to me, they just peaked on this album, and then each one after was a little less good. Tom502
Waylon Jennings
i’ve been in an Iron Maiden concert last weekend and i am still listening exclusively their songs !!!
Boy with a Coin - Iron & Wine with a nose full of McChrystals SP. Nice winding down music. Prior to that I have been listening to one of my personal favorites The Cranberries. Been a very laid back mellow kinda night.
Been on a twenty four hour math rock binge: nothing but Slint and A Minor Forest.
morphine
I Want To Break Free (Live At Wembley 1986) [Queen]
Merle Haggard
Sepultura Chaos AD !
@ ap: Did you go to the Maiden concert for the Rock in Rio album? I love that album. I think I’ll put it on now. My other favorite Rush made a Rush in Rio album the same year. Might have to put that on too. @BigSnoot: I miss the Cranberries. Too short lived for such a great band. Are there only 4 albums? Might have to put some of that on too. Who needs sleep?
rush rocks! The cranberries had more then one album? Wow.
I usually take a CD or a few to work, I currently have Celtic Frost- Monotheist in, and the Misfits- Collection II, to listen to today. Tom502
I’m listening to a fantastic internet radio show: http://www.beyondthebeatgeneration.com/ Lots of '60s punk & garage, a bit of Velvets & Who chucked in - just the ticket!
You have got to love Maiden I must have seen them 10 times in the 80s and 90s. hydrahead8883 - Pantera is one of the best bands ever. They put out like 10 or 15 glam albums that I don’t think were ever distributed outside the DFW metroplex. They finally got popular when they went metal. They put on one of the best shows I have ever been to in my life. It was at a small club off Park & Greenville in Dallas called The Basement. It was the club they did the Cowboys from Hell video at. They had a surround sound setup so it was like an arena show. It was a hot humid Texas summer night so it was raining from the condensation on the AC ducts. The kind of show that you get on the floor and you better be able to mosh with the big dogs or die. Good times, Good times
Xander , i ve been in both concerts , Maiden and Rush , I live near Rio de Janeiro (180 km) . I love The Rock in Rio album too ! but their actual tour (somewhere back in time ) are even better than the tour they recorded rock in rio (brave new world tour) ! Last weeks concert was fantastic! Next Mont we will have Kiss and Heaven and Hell !!!
ap, Cool, so I hear you screaming everytime I play either of those albums! You can keep Kiss in Brazil. I don’t want them back. bob, You like the Tick and Rush (and snuff)? Are you me? I’ve seen Rush a dozen times I think. I still haven’t seen Maiden. Somehow I always manage to be away when they are here. 20+ years of listening to them and always bad luck. I did see Nicko McBrain (the drummer). he came to my high school in 1987 on a promotional tour for his drum maker.
heheh it was a great concert! i`ve seen Maiden four times. but Rush came to Brazil just once !
well to clear up any confusion although I think maiden is a very talented group I just can’t get into them. Though listening to moon spell right now. Though I agree they can keep kiss.
I’d love to like maiden, just can’t. For me if a singer doesn’t do it for me the whole thing is ruined. I absolutely despise TRex for the same reason, just can’t get past the fact I hate his voice. I’m seeing Clapton in a couple of weeks tho and will be very happy.
At the moment i’m listening to the score from ‘Bladerunner’ (I love movie soundtracks)
I saw Maiden in, I think '86 with Malmsteen. It was a good show. I see live shows every so often. I saw Immortal a while back, I saw Danzig when he was the metal Lord, I have seen Motorhead, Mercyful Fate… bunches. Tom502
Right now, Dick Dale, Best Of, and His Del-Tones. Yeah baby yeah! Tom502
Frank Zappa Over-Nite Sensation!
BB Dif. Stages is a great album man!
hood!!!
Currently, ENO - Taking Tiger Mountain(by strategy) Pure awesome Tom502
currently Current 93 “lucifer over london”
Leonard Cohen, and lots of it.
Ultravox- Ha! Ha! Ha! Great stuff. Tom502
husker du Love this group don’t listen to them enough to be honest. Well here is to great music from cold places.
Humboldt, that was a good album, I like all their albums. Tom Warrior has a new band now called Triptykon. Everyone is still awaiting some new songs, they did put out some ambient like track. I am glad to see another Kraftwerk fan too. Tom502
yeah kraftwerk is fun fun fun. Seriously awesome band.
1984 VAN HALEN!!!
Dio - Holy Diver Album. Goooood stuff.
Humboldt, I’m surprised with some of your selection I didn’t see any Arlo Guthrie
Been switching back and forth 2 CDs I brought to work today, Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss, and Carpathian Forest: Live in Darkness. Tom502
Yes, Alice’s Restaurant was one llllllllllllloooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggg song. And remember, you can get anything you want at alice’s restaurant.
There’s a guy here in Orlando that covers Alice’s Restaurant… I think it clocks in at over 9mins. His name is Jeff Howell, anyone ever heard of him?
ten years after
The 69 Eyes- Devils. Rock on!
Thompson - Kletva Kralja Zvonimira
the O’Jays
I just got the most recent CD of this Swedish band The Sounds. I have their previous album already. This is great, I just play it non-stop. Has a retro 80’s post punk new wave sound to me, with cool female vocals. This is one of my favorite bands. Tom502
Right now, ‘Dry’ by PJ Harvey.
Lots of Neko Case the past few days. And also a tape of five New Order songs that I’ve been playing over and over again in my car.
Industro- you like current Gary Numan? His last 4 CDs are great IMO. Jagged, his latest is very good.
I have still been playing this CD of The Sounds just non-stop. I love this band.
Big Barry and the SlipRoadz
Bathory Blood Fire Death !!
Had band practice last night with a new song, which came out very good, I made an MP3 of it, and have been rockin’ to it.
hey just put two more songs up on myspace. So I was just listening to these two songs. myspace.com/fishfivestar I thought I’d share since there has been talk of industrial music up here recently.
bob, interesting stuff, kinda reminds me of Cabaret Voltaire. Personally, I like a more beat driven electro, but this is not bad for what it is. Not that you wanted a review, just giving my opinion.
that is awesome. I love hearing opnions good/bad. As long as they are somewhat informed. Just happy someone listened to it at all. I’ll put up one of my more beat oriented ones next (planning on it anyways).
My music is old 1st wave black metal like Venom and Sodom. Just finished one new song last night, just have an MP3 of it now, though I think we will re-record it. I also do some 2nd wave BM ala early Darkthrone. My 2 sites are myspace.com/themightyastrum and /kosmokratermusic
Sodom and Venom … nice i have to listen your songs tom !!
like the thickness of the guitar tone.
Beg your pardon - Crass. Man, I love Crass.
Crass! Not heard of them in many a year. Ive been re-aquainting myself with Clapton as Im seeing him in a couple of weeks. Hope he does ‘badge’.
Crass! Oh I love Crass! I used to have all the big fold-out LPs, in poster style, and their Bullsh*t Detector compilation LPs back in the day. I since got them all on CD now. I miss that era. Also a bog fan of Discharge, Exploited, Vice Squad, Subhumans, etc, it’s what I grew up on.
Monsters in the Morning. www.realradio.fm
I grew up on it too, and Ive just discovered that a punk band from my home town have re-formed after 25 years. I remember seeing them in the late 70’s. Check out the ‘Notsensibles’ - great fun.
Snuffster, I’ll look that up tonight. My band has a punky influence I think, but in a more metal style. myspace.com/themightyastrum and the new material is coming way better. I did have a punk band years ago. I just got the CD, well it hasn’t made it to the mailbox yet, of The Professionals, with Steve Jones and Paul Cook and a guy from the Clash, and a singer. They were in that movie, Ladies and Gentleman The Fabulous Stains. I just got that DVD as well.
I think you’ll find them fun,Tom. I love Steve Jones guitar playing, although he’s not overly technical he has a great sound and was one of the people that influenced me when I started playing guitar
@ Hydrahead - I haven’t been a very good juggalo lately, but it was all I listened to for about 5 years. Check my picture on my profile, I got a purple hatchet man tattoo a few years ago. My favorite from Twiztid would either be the Green Book or Freek Show. Oh Jesse! by Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show is in my ears at the moment. Edit - And to think the 2 people on the forum from Iowa are both juggalos. What are the odds?
the professionals are awesome.
Kreator Hordes of Chaos!
you don’t want to know bigblue1. Though you do want to know I’am listening to old underworld wow it’s amazing how dated their stuff from the 80’s sounds. More a wow then a I’am enjoying it kind of musical trip.
rock on not a huge crue fan but I can definatly have times I appreciate their early stuff.
good one. Some mozart now.
apreantly I’am listening to pink floyd the album being the best of pink floy. (at least that is what the internet says.)
I am Japanese anime fan, so all the songs in my ipod now are anime related. Current favorites are selected tracks from UTENA’s 10 disc CD collection.
I never got into anime, but I love kaiju and tokusatsu. Listening to New Model Army - No Rest For the Wicked
Big L, no but I have heard of it. Do you like Pizzacato 5? I do.
Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Grand Magus Iron Will
The Pretenders cover of the Kinks “Stop Your Sobbing”.
Big-L, yes, I have the 2 American released CDs, and have seen all their videos I have found on Youtube. She is incredibly attractive to me too. The Prestenders always rock, esp their 1st 2 albums, of course I had those on LP when they came out. I’ve been rocking to The Professionals - Didn’t See it Coming, Steve Jones and Paul Cook’s post Sex Pistols band, which was also featured in that move The Fabulous Stains, but with a different(and I like better) singer. Went on and ordered the new CD by Justin Hawkins new band Hot Leg. I loved his Darkness material, and like all the Hot Leg I have seen on the net.
A cover of Pink Floyds’ “Have a Cigar” as done by The Foo FIghters
A handful of New Order songs from when they still sort of sounded like Joy Division.
Blue Train --GRP All-Stars (industrialised soul) itsuke: “Canta Per Me” on that?
sounds right up my alley. awesome try to find some I will.
I’ve been rockin’ all day to Hot Leg, the new band of Justin Hawkins, who was in The Darkness.
I went on and bought the cd. I have both of The Darkness CDs. The Hot Leg CD seemed kinda hard to find stateside, but an Amazon seller had for $12 something, brand new sealed, with postage is was average US CD retail price. I love it. I think he is an awesome singer.
faith and the muse. Oh your right I don’t like the darkness or queen either.but that’s o.k. they at least don’t suck and I won’t have to make fun of you for listening to them.
squarefiend: I see you like Noir~ I am listening and singing (cover your ears) to Shigi - Kagayaita [Gintama ED12]
“Look of Love” live/pbs itsuke: yeah, it was a 7 disc “overload” within two to three weeks. I had to get the soundtrack. I’ll look up UTENA now.
Listen to this bunch of loonies from my home town, when I was a teenager they were the local postars - check out ‘Im in Love with Margart Thatcher’ Awesome!! www.notsensibles.com
I checked that out a little while back. Not bad at all. I’ve been rocking lately to The Professionals, and Hawkin’s new band Hot Leg. Though today I brought with me to work, some Beherit.
Rainer Maria’s first EP. Over and over and over and over.
Beherit- Beast of Beherit
Boyd Rice a sometimes snuffer.
I don’t know how often he uses it. But he’s been seen using it on more then one occasion. I’ll try to find one article about him where they mention him taking a pinch of snuff. Actualy the only thing I can find quickly is http://artforum.com/diary/id=8729
p.s. listening to chopin right now.
Vice Squad - Stand Strong Stand Proud
yeah he is a super freak that is for sure. Well if he is he seems to be behaving himself. the funny part is that now this page will show up in search engines if your looking for rice or boyd rice. I rememeber my introduction to him was in the classic Re-search book Pranks.
I “think” I had a Rice CD, seems it was called Axis something… maybe not, I can’t recall, and I don’t have it now.
yes that would definatly be boyd rice c.d. either that or hendrix but I doubt you’d be confused on that
Antisect - In Darkness there is no Choice
elvis presley - in the ghetto and snuffing some(read: LOTS OF) Gletscher Priese
Yes, I believe it was Blood Axis. I don’t have it anymore, and don’t remember what is was like. Today, I was rockin’ to Airbourne, a sorta AC/DC sound alike band from Aus. Rockin’ hard along the highway to the Indian store.
listening to clan of xymox right now. Can’t believe I’ve not really listened to these guys untill recently.
two great albums!!!
been a while untill a day or so ago before I listened to Death in June again.
King Diamond - Abigail 2
Mercyful Fate In The Shadows .
Volbeat - Still Counting Just found this band about six months ago, and I gotta say if you like any kind of rock or metal, DEFINITELY worth checking out. I am not even going to describe it. Just check em out on iTunes or ___
I am seeking some Elektronish Musik, I know I misspelled that, they are from Denmark and are similar to Kraftwerk. If anyone can help me get a disc or mp3s of this group, let me know. Thanks.
Battleship Chains - Hindu Love Gods
Industro- do you know of that band I was mentioning? I love their stuff but can’t find a CD to purchase. Same with Deviant UK.
This is who I mean, I think it’s great! www.myspace.com/elektronischemaschine
Heaven and Hell The Devil You Know awesome album !! Preparing myself for their concert tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro . It will be a great night.
Eric Clapton. Saw him live on Thursday night. I have never seen him play better, the guy was simply awesome and very generous in his playing. He has retreated from the guitar god thing in the past and toned his soloing down but on Thursday he literally pulled all the stops out with long, fast, gorgeous, majestic solos at tremendous volume. Can that man rock, I’m still on a high two days later.
Goa & Psychodelic Trance @ http://www.di.fm/
slowdive
Tangorodrim
AnimeNFo Radio - http://www.animenfo.com/radio/index.php
Alex Jones http://www.prisonplanet.com/
Paul Weller - Hit Parade
Clutch - Drink To The Dead Perhaps my favorite Clutch song ever. “If knee-deep in catnip at the old icebox I recommend you whistle and give the box three knocks Should you be so lucky to hear whispering Then it’s an invitation for you to leap in.” First thing into my mind when we moved into an apartment long ago to find the crisper of our new place’s refrigerator contained vomit.
Finally! Just bought it today, the new DISCHARGE- Disensitise CD. D-beat kings.
Dream Theater Metropolis part 2.
bahaus king volcano awesome song.
^^ I hate Illinois Nazis. Listening to Dark Tranquillity - Inside The Particle Storm
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights I’ve not listened to this album in so long, it’s brilliant.
I don’t get the Postal Service. I like their music alot but can’t stand the bands they are formed from even though I can strongly hear the elements of both in the P.S. Thanks for reminding me of them.
Witchcraft-Sweden’s finest. It’s like sabbath v. 2K9
I’ve been rockin’ the house with the new tracks from my band we recorded last weekend. This is my best stuff, and best recording quality. One of the new songs is on the myspace, called Reaper. http://www.myspace.com/themightyastrum
a big hawkwind playlist ive recently made up.
Hawkwind rocks. I am more inclined to the Lemmy era, and Motorhead. I love alot of UK music, Venom, Ravens Creed, Justin Hawkins Hot Leg/The Darkness, Discharge, Crass, The Subhumans, of course I’m still living in the 80’s.
And don’t forget Pentagram and Angel Witch and of course Iron Maiden.
Jeff Buckley’s Grace CD
Here is what I got today on itunes today: Joel Kaiser and the Devil’s Own-“Honkey Tonkin’ till the coffin” Honky Tonk Hustla’s- “Hallways of the Allways” Those Poor Bastards-“Country Bullsh*t” Goatwhore-“Carving out the eyes of god” Fenriz Red Planet-“Engangsgrille” (side project of Darkthrone)
Brenga Astur, then Wicked Tinkers
My Dad, who only knows the Beatles (bless him!!) sent me a CD of George Harrisons number 1’s. Nice stuff with a couple of classic on there, ya know, just a little trip backwwards…
a big WHO playlist i made up a couple of months ago :0)
right now I am listening to BBC radio 4, but usually on my iTunes I have rock, metal and blues.
I am listening to a CD I just got in the mail from Singapore, a metal band called Rudra that place death metal style with Vedanta lyrics.
Of all things, it’s been “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” No idea why, but I’m just stuck on it these past few days. The legend lives on, From the Chippewa on down, Of the big lake they call Kitchegumy. The lake it is said Never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy. Usually, though, it’s Talking Heads, Kurt Weil, and, of course, Dylan, Simon & Garfunkle, & the Stones,
Bruce Williams
These days, I try to avoid talk radio, but I confess to still indulging in it.
Saint Vitus: Born Too Late!
A live Kostas Hatsis l.p. It probably dates from the mid sixties. I don’t understand Greek, but it’s lovely stuff. Roma style ballads with some stunning guitar. Before that, Harry Parch’s “Delusion Of The Fury”. Hard to explain that one. The Thai Elephant Orchestra kidnaps a group of Gamelan players, plus Esquivel’s "Za za zoom"ing backup singers and forces them to go on tour with Pink Floyd? If you can figure out that analogy, you get the idea. Strangely pleasant.
In Memory of Celtic Frost. pretty good!
The Red Sox…and they might actually win tonight. My guitar is only three feet away and I’m sure that’ll be singin’ soon…singing w/ some HDT
Tomahawk-Mescal Rites #1 I love Mike Patton!!!
Brothers Keepers - Bereit (Original Version) (produced by Tre The Boy Wonder)
Mike Patton, covering Six-Pack by black flag
Jim Philips
Psychic TV - Opium on Pagan Day
WEES Radio, Ocean City Md. on their web feed. Revisiting all the corny old records my parents had in their collection. Lol! Strange that listening to them in my middle age is kind of nice.
Stevie Nicks doing a Dave Matthews Band cover.
Terakaft - Iswegh Atay It’s a blues trio of desert nomads from North Africa, around Libya/Mali. I bought the CD and it just made me confused. You see three guys all wrapped up in turbans and traditional clothes in the middle of the desert, and it begs the question: where the hell do they plug their amps in? All of them are holding electric guitars, which one would think somewhat impractical for those who roam about with no fixed home.
@shikitohno This may or may not be the answer to your question… http://www.marshallamps.com/product\\_range.asp?productRangeId=19 I have one of these. Nice little screamer of an amplifier.
Mike Oldfield - Shadow on The Wall
now I’am listening to current 93. Parts of the album “The Inmost Light”
Mondo Cane- Storia D’Amore (YES Mike Patton again) ((he can do no wrong)) (((i like these( ) ))) ((((LOL LOL LOL))))
Just bought a 180g vinyl repressing of ‘A Divina Comedia Ou Ando Meio Desligado’ by Os Mutantes. Looking forward to hearing it when I get home! documentary clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO4cUtWGmrQ Songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAuGLBClTss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ohTi8lbeok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unZYqNYuRxc&feature=related
Estradasphere - Hunger Strike
A couple of old vinyl finds from the second-hand store. Tommy Edwards’ “It’s All In The Game”. A stunning 1950’s pressing that sounds incredible and a copy of The Supremes “I Hear A Symphony” on U.K. Tamla Motown. No idea how it found it’s way across the pond, but it made it through in wretched shape. All my fave tracks skip all over the place. :.(
yeah toffee Mutantes is good !
I have been into Nox Arcana for a while now. They have a vary hypnotic quality. Blood of Angles can’t be beat.
Dog Fashion Disco - Adultery OOPS Now it’s Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - The Greenless Wreath
Triumfall .
Here is what I got yesterday on itunes: AssJack-(side project of Hank Williams III) Divine Heresy-“Bringer of Plagues” Joe Buck-“Joe Buck yourself” The Ocean- Aeolian I also picked up Guns and Roses’ “chinese democracy” and Cypress Hill’s 1991 debut, both on sale at Bestbuy for $8.00 yesterday
@snuffegnugen Thanks! I will now have “Insane In The Brain” playing in my skull for the next six hours! Got KMFM’s audio stream to listen to at the moment. Tony Blackburn playing Motown.
Being a HUGE GnR fan I was boycotting the Chinese Democracy. I had procured a few of the tracks as demos and live recordings years before the album came out and I was curious to hear the studio versions. After a few months I conceded and I think it’s an excellent album. I think the band’s tension ruined a lot of things, but the I think the music holds up to the Use Your Illusions at least.
Motorhead doing “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, off their Bastards album.
Listening to the “Word of Mouth” program from BBC radio 4 (recorded also)~~
Suidakra.
Dalek - A beast caged
Cloroform - Soupgirl
Daleks make music now?
Megadeth!
A compilation CD to go along with the Indian Snuffs I’ve been hoovering up. “Non Stop Bhangra Blast”.
Just for the campness ace of base hits of the nineties. Can’t beat a bit of camp Swedish pop lol. Stefan
I love Indian music.
Sweeney Todd: The Broadway Revival Cast
“Better get a bun, because it’s starting to run.” Forgotten the name of the song that line is in, but it cracks me up whenever I hear it.
Walrus> I went to a couple of their gigs back in 93 - good atmosphere, catchy tunes! I’m listening mostly to Ambient, Lounge, Downbeat, Epic, and Alternative Electronica these days. DI.fm.lounge radio on iTunes. Millenia Nova, Madredeus, El Perro del Mar, Frequent Flyer. And sometimes Pink :o)
Yesterday I got an email from The Cranberrries. Apparantly they are reuniting.
Very cool! I love the Cranberries.
Sticking with the Indian music for the second day in a row. Got Shyam radio from Chennai playing at the moment. Hours of Tamil film music blasting in the house…annoying my neighbours, no doubt.
Monster Magnet
DJ Sheb I Sabbah has a few CDs that use Indian music, and a sorta electro with it. Very good. Also James Asher is great.
Show of Hands, Best of. English folk/rock very good. Stefan
I’m listening to the chirping of crickets in my backyard. It’s quite soothing.
“The Banks Of Green Willow” - Jeffrey Tate & The English Chamber Orchestra A collection of short pieces by various British Composers.
The crickets here too. Also katydids, frogs, and some weird clicking bug. Probably a few others mixed in the chorus. Its quite a racket actually! These guys go all night, then becuase its high summer its cicadas all day! At least the birds are quiet at this time of night, though they are always up before dawn. Every now and then something will disturb one of the cicadas at night and it screams, then the dog gets spooked and starts to howl.
The Pogues–pretty much the whole discography, along with some Shane MacGowan and the Popes.
Dirty Revolution - I love Reggae
Pink Floyd-Animals.
Black Sabbath “Paranoid”. (after listening to Monty Sunshine playing Trad Jazz… Does this qualify as eclectic?)
Right now I’m hearing some coyotes yipping outside. The dogs in the area are going nuts.
@Carol: We have had a Coyote problem down here as of late. How Coyotes ever got in Orlando beats me.
Somebody must have flushed one down the toilet, and they got in the sewers.
They’re probably escaped former Walt Disney executives.
Haha, who knows. They most likely originated from an illegal breeder. We don’t really get them in the burbs, but downtown has a few running around. Sadly, they have been feeding on the kitties down there. Someone caught one on tape while it was walking the tarmac at the downtown airport.
Fantomas - Animali In Calore Surriscaldati Con Ipertermia Genitale
actualy coyotes got out east by poor attempts at domestication. Apperantly when puppies they’ll act very dog like learning and taking commands but it doesn’t last into adulthood. So basicly just like many other invasive species, people thought it’d be cool to have an excotic pet but not cool to find out if it’s a good or bad idea.Personaly if you ask me just further proof their tricksters. On a side note jackels are supposedly extremely domesticable but really smelly.
listening to VNV. Victory not Vengance. Oh and listening to jazz then Black Sabbath doesn’t count as ecclectic just as good taste.
Listening to Resonance.fm at the moment. @Mr_Snuffypants: I don’t think that’s it. They travel around the Sahara, and they play the Festival in the Desert a lot. I’m just wondering what they plug into when they’re out going around the desert. Seems like a power source or batteries for a mini-amp would be mighty scarce.
Solar power?
Listening to Vedic Metal of the band Rudra, CD Brahmavidya: Trancendental 1, song Venerable Opposites. Awesome!
_ One more time, one more chance _ by a Japanese signer. It’s so good I want to sing along. But alas, I am in my college’s library surrounded by people. I doubt they will like my super off key singing~~
“House Full”- Fairport Convention. Great live CD with the Lief & Liege lineup. I like Thompson, but Dave Swarbrick blows my mind! ----Later that evening---------------- Medeski Martin and Wood "Last Chance To Trance Dance (perhaps) Best Of 1991-'96
Phantasm: oblIVion soundtrack on the iPod.
Team Sleep - Princeton Review
The new Motörhead album “Motörizer”. We just mentioned Lemmy on another thread and for some reason I googled the band. I’ve got a bunch of the older stuff, but I didn’t know they had a new album out. Well, new to me, I realize it was released in 2008, but I just found it today. I think I’ll probably pick it up with my next itunes purchase. And I really hope they get their act on the road and come out west. This is one band, I’ve missed several times but would love to see live before they quit. Lemmy is 63 now, and we all know his diet is mostly red meat, whisky and speed, so I don’t know how many more chances we’ll get.
“The Best Of The Shadows”. Before that it was Bob Marley’s “Legend”. @snuffegnugen: Lemmy and Keith Richards will be the last living humans on Earth. If Ringo or Charlie are still around by then, at least the Cockroaches will have something to listen to, long after all other Humans have ceased to exist.
Air America.
I love Motorhead and have all their albums on CD, except their latest one. I also did get to see them live once.
Can’t get Air America here. Except online, but that’s hopeless with my dial up.
I seem to remember Air America having a 32 kbps real audio stream. That should work with a dial up.
Radio drama still lives on, viz “The Archers”, etc. I listen to DisCipher and several other old time radio sites quite often. “The Creaking Door” is another favourite. It was a South African version of “Inner Sanctum” that ran in the mid sixties.
Otis Redding - Remember Me
That Mitchell and Webb Sound on BBC iPlayer.
NPR news summary podcast. A new morning tradition for me.
John Legend - “Save Room”
@spam Thanks for turning me on to ‘That Mitchell & Webb Sound’! Have not laughed that hard in months.
@Mr_Snuffypants, you’re welcome! It’s one of my favourite things on the radio.
Skitsystem.
ordo virtutum.
Frank Turner - Sons of Liberty
chillis at the moment
Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade - Girls for Single Men
Michael Medved radio show.
@bluntmaster, I hope you have had the chance to see Les live. I’ve seen him with Primus twice and man do they put on a show. I know he can be corny at times, but he has to be one of the most talented bass players that’s ever lived.
Let it be - naked
I don’t mean I’m naked by the way. However, come to think of it…
Lol snuffster Its as good a way as any to listen. Just listened to James Taylor’s Tube Rose snuff jingle.
An old Edmundo Ros lp. “Rhythms Of The South” Makes me feel like doing the Cha Cha Cha…naked.
Coast to Coast AM.
A decidedly low-fi feed of Radio Caroline on Sky
Glenn beck radio show
Mr B. The Gentleman Rhymer - Let me smoke my pipe [url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhcSEwWHYI4&feature=player\\_embedded[/url]
bigblue1, you ever play the Alex Jones drinking game? Take a shot anytime he says “tyranny”.
Right this minute, ‘Son Of A Baker’ by The Small Faces. I want this played at my funeral.
Some vintage Jazz from the '50’s that you can’t play on the radio. “The Dirty Rooster” from Slim Gallard. Reminds me a bit of the Ernie Anastos viral video…something about Chickens…
musick to play in the dark volume one. after some rozz williams c.d.
Gianna Nannini - Bello E Impossibile
My girlfriend bitching and whining about snuff particles everywhere
The Specials: New Era.
I have “Pinks: All Out” in the background.
I picked up the new CD of, “The Black Dahlia Murder”, it’s pretty good. I have their previous CD. I’m not a fan of modern death metal, but this band is pretty good.
@TOM, You should be a fan of modern death metal, there are still some bad ass bands out there. Check some of these guys out on itunes if you get a chance: Rose Funeral I declare war Burning the Masses Torture Killer Soilent Green Salt the Wound Thy art is murder That’s a start, I have plenty more suggestions if you need 'em
Sky.fm Modern Jazz channel.
Stina Nordenstam ‘This Is Stina Nordenstam’.
snuffe- thanks, I’ll look into them. I’m more an 80’s guy. What I find I dislike most of the modern metal, is the what might be called over technicality. I seem to prefer the simple catchy riff, verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge format.
Tommy Bolin “Private Eyes”. Before that it was Joe Walsh “So What”. Suppose I should just play James Gang next.
Ramones “Mania”
Old podcast of the Russell Brand Show on BBC 2 radio. It’s kinda odd, just listening to this guy’s voice makes me happy.
@ midnightmosesuk what ends when the snuff shatters?
Local Radio station…99.3 “The Rock” They play rock music, though you wouldn’t know with a name like “The Rock.” (insert sarcasm mark)
sterolab- the first of the microbe hunters.
Nasty dog cleaning himself noises.
carol thats a great album
LoL!!
My favourite track on that one is “Because He Can”.
The follow up album will be titled “If You Could Do This, You’d Never Leave The House”.
Yeah, but he went downhill after his experimental album “I Just Ate My Own Poo and Now I Want to Lick You”
SKY.fm roots reagge
Rush “2112” Had almost forgotten how much I like these geezers!
meat beat manifesto. storm the studios rmxs. Great musician (really it’s just jack dangers). Mr_snuffypants I love rush one of my long time favorites, the first time I heard rush it was on a whim. I had read that Geddy lee was an awesome bass player so the next time I had my allowance I bought Presto and fell in love with the band right there. On a side note rush is one of the few bands that when they say they can’t play one of their songs anymore because they can’t re-learn it, it’s actualy a compliment.
Placebo - Infrared
Good stuff, Red Star.
Frostgrave- Hymn of the Dead.
RUSH! Phenomenal band…
Dream Theater.
“Return of the Wildest” - Louis Prima, Keeley Smith With Sam Butera & The Witnesses". Scoobi-do-reebop!
Those Poor Bastards, best described as evil, doomsday country. Check 'em out if ya ain’t scared. Those Poor Bastards
linkin park
@snuffegnugen That sounds like something I would have come up with. Lol! Right now it’s “101 Strings Play The Hits Of Black Sabbath”. Not really, but they could do one hell of a job on “Electric Funeral”.
“I Luv Your Girl” - The Dream
Hank Williams III
@Snuffegnugen appreciate the info! Only saw Hank III once before and couldn’t get over how much he looked and sounded like Hank Sr. (if he wanted to) I realize he doesn’t want to just follow that path, but make his own mark instead. I’ll check Those Poor Bastards out. Thanks! Bart
I think if Hank Sr were in his twenties, today, he would be a lot more like Eminem and a lot less like Toby Keith.
LOl! that is most probably true! I’m not a big fan of new country-seems to have gone the way of pop-music, Snuffypants…
Speaking of Country, It’s “Beatles For Sale” at the moment. Twangier than anything that’s come from Nashville in recent memory. Buck Owens’ influence is all over this record.
The History of Ancient Egypt by Dr. Bob Brier
Tom T Hall " Old dogs, children, and watermelon wine"
Cold Frontier - Show of Hands Stefan
The new Immortal, All Shall Fall. Not bad at all.
I’m on my 3rd pint of Boddingtons Pub Ale.
I must not be the only one.
Now some Motorhead, Kiss of Death!
I am now listening to my bands new CD, Apocalyptic Dawn. Very good!
Probably.
I’m on my fourth pint of Schlitz Bull Ice, listening to Grateful Dead’s “In The Dark” with a lip full of Skoal Original waiting for my new idiotic neighbours to die die die! (Just called the cops on them and will be happy to issue a restraining order on the moronic ba**ards if they don’t lay off knocking on my door threatening violence.) Somebody please tell me something nice about America before I start hating it again!
Listening to the new stuff I just picked up on itunes. Strange mix, old blues, new blues and death metal. Leadbelly- “best of leadbelly” Mance Lipscomb- “trouble in mind” Rachel Brooke- Self titled White Chapel- “The Somatic Defilement”
it’s a long way to tipperary
listening to “love Spirals” Which is a great duo. Very interesting and wonderfull take on easy listening.
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
Picked up the new KISS CD the other day and been rockin’ to it. It does have that 70’s sound, I think. Right now I have the extra disc of rerecorded classics playing.
jerks who thinks everyone doesn’t want to throw rocks at their heads when they blast crappy rap with their car sub-woofers.
listening to the results of the gay marriage vote in Maine. edit: post 666 \\m/
@midnight, Glad you liked them. They have quickly become one of my favorites as well. Seeing them on tour with Hank WIlliams III was absolutely amazing. The lead singer also did a few side projects: Lonesome Wyatt and the holy spooks- “Sabella” Lonesome Wyatt and Rachel Brook- “a Bitter harvest” You might also like The Pine Box Boys, .357 string band, Bourbon Crow, Joe Buck, Joel Kaiser, Honkey Tonk Hustlers. All are on itunes if your bored.
Motorhead: Kiss of Death. This CD is great, but I think Inferno was better, and Motorizer less good than both of these. But all Motorhead is good. I suspect a strong Motorhead influence in my next album, the 2 new songs I wrote have that sound.
Monroe Brothers this sunny afternoon
Morphine “Buena”
rain, Canada geese in the distance and the occasional jingle of my dog’s collar. Its a dreary but peaceful afternoon.
KISS - Sonic Boom
love morphine darn it. great band. great album and song
@bob It is a shame that he had to die so early.
“thelonious monk” darnit!
AC/DC
Deicide-“Serpents of the light” a brutal classic
Ivan Rebroff !!!11
christian death the album only theatre of pain. great if it’s your kind of thing.
I’ve been working on my next album, and been listening to the 6 finished songs in demo fashion now. The new CD we finished is due from the press plant on Monday.
The Who: A Quick One
The PIXIES - Surfer Rosa ( a timeless masterpiece )
The Who Sell Out
Van Morrison
Saviours Of Doom by Old Man’s Child
Just came home from an AC/DC concert at São Paulo and i am still listening their classics
Defiance, Ohio I’m half way through the 33 Anxious and Worrying great band, a great song and it sounds so good on vinyl
Trans-Siberian Orchesta - Night castle
Alice In Chains new album “Black Gives Way To Blue”. Great album. Not too many bands that lose their lead singer come back. I can think of only one right now, AC/DC. Any others?
@Snuffertony I remember a AC/DC concert I went to as a young boy…Wow! (For those about to rooocck…FIRE!) cannons fire and I felt like my ears began to bleed!! AWESOME…Really wish I could have seen Bon Scott live.
Bart, I saw AC/DC recently on their last tour. They’re still using the canons! Loud as HELL! They still put on a good show. I don’t know how Angus still moves the way he does. I guess he just won’t let himself get old!
Yeah they still make a great concert.
@ snuffertony: I didn’t know AIC was back, that’s some news, I’ll be sure to check out their new stuff. As for AC/DC, my Dad saw them when Bon was alive, and I too wish I could have seen that. And as something completely different from Alice or AC/DC, I am listening to Frederic Chopin’s Winter Wind and Revolutionary Etudes.
My ears are still ringing from the AC/DC concert I saw in '91 or '92. Ouch. For a good Bon Scott AC/DC sounding band check out Rhino Bucket. The bass player’s mom is a friend. She’s always passing their stuff along to me. I beleive they are touring now. They’re pretty good. Their drummer even used to be in AC/DC!
right now? The Alex Jones Radio Show. very awesome.
Doc Watson “Grandfather’s Clock”. One of the better flat-pickers
If you like classic AC/DC, I suggest you check out: Airbourne- http://www.myspace.com/airbourne and Bullet- http://www.myspace.com/bulletsweden I have the Airbourne CD, I wish I’d gotten the Bullet CD when I saw it cheap, now it’s high.
Check out the song “It Takes Balls” by the Supagroup. A very tongue-in-cheek band from New Orleans, with a lot of AC/DC influence. The last band I was in did this song (at my request of course) and packed the dance floor every time we played it. Everyone thought it was a lost AC/DC song.
@Bart- I love Doc Watson. I have had the pleasure of seeing him in concert several times and even got to meet him at a bluegrass festival. Right now I’m listening to Jackyl!
I’m listening to Chris Knight - the Trailer tapes , while I snuff some dholakia black (both a little mellow and raw). I may switch to Dholakia white so I’ll have to change to newer Steve Earle and maybe some HANK III .
@newb, Have you heard Steve Earl’s new cd “Townes”? It’s a tribute to, in my opinion, the greatest singer songwriter in the history of music, Townes Van Zandt.
Christmas Music
@cstokes4 santa clause and his old lady???
Jonathan Ross’s newest BBC Radio 2 podcast
Anyone have a Zaine Griff CD? I can’t find one anywhere.
http://tinyurl.com/yj7tzyh hope that helps… this has proved elusive indeed.
Radical Dance Faction - Working Class Hero
wolf- thanks, but I can’t find one. I was hoping someone might have one, and could share the joy.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
@snuffegnugen I’ve heard some of the townes cd, it’s good. I agree Townes Van Zandt was one of the best songwriters ever. It’s too bad he never received the recognition he deserved.
Just got my bands CD from the plant yesterday, and am rockin’ to it now at work. I have my own office, with a comp and speakers. It sounds really great. The production, and mix is very good, and finished packaging slick and cool, I think I have a winner here. My band mate is coming over tonight, to memorial the passing of cult screen icon Paul Naschy, as well as update the band website, so we can sell some of these awesome CDs.
Eddie Izzard - Dress to Kill
If anyone is into old school punk metal, my debut full length CD is done and available. 10 songs, sorta Venom meets Discharge. See the space to order, myspace.com/themightyastrum these are factory pressed and printed and a quality production. I’ve been rockin’ to it alot. My bandmate came over last night, and partook of many drinks and snuffs, he liked the Dholakia White. Already have 12 new songs ready for the next album. Currently listening to The Exploited.
Foxhunters, Slainte Mhath
The sound of silence.
Clan of Xymox again. Which is prove bands can be like snuff in that you shouldn’t nesscarily write a band off just because you don’t like them now you might catch something you do like about it after that.
The Carter Family
Pitmedden Battlefield Band and Alison Kinnaird
A little mixture of Rollin’ In The Hay and Donna The Buffalo
Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster CD
Six Feet Under, death metal helps to cleanse the ears from all the sh*tty holiday music I’m hearing in every store.
Got 2 CDs in the mail yesterday I’ve been wanting, Ravens Creed - Albion Thunder, and the new Warhammer - A Beast So Fierce. Currently jammin’ to the Warhammer. Not as good as when Krynojewski was the main man, but still worthy, and glad they finally made a new album.
‘East Hastings’ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Something mellow to wake up to.
Brighter Death Now - Innerwar
Van Morrison
Shostakovich Symphony No. 8 at the moment
Acronaire!
Tracy Chapman
@ Sandy: Nice, I’m a huge Shostakovitch fan!
I’m not listening to anything, but has anybody seen that episode of Family Guy where Stewie invents a device that takes him and Brian across several different universes? And they end up in a Disney universe and the Disney version of Peter sings “It’s a Wonderful Day for Pie”? That damn song is now firmly stuck in my head. Thanks, Seth MacFarlane. hehehe…
Haha, I hate that! I had the theme song for “Charles in charge” (it was a tv show) stuck in my head for days after it was on an episode of “scrubs”. SHIT, now it’s back! Thanks James, NO STOKERS FOR YOU!!! Just kidding of course.
Hehehe, any time I want to annoy my wife, I start humming the theme from “I Dream of Jeannie.” Gets stuck in her head every time.
AC/DC are coming to town! WOHOO! And this time it’s for real , at least they posted it as part of the official tour on their website. This year some ***** jerks announced a concert , posters plastered all over the city , bought two tickets and everything and it turned out to be a scam.
I am listening to the politically inspired project by Iced Earth’s mainman, called Sons of Liberty, it really rocks, I think, it’s free on their sitehttp://www.sons-of-liberty.net/
Good luck Jack! (Say sorry to your ears in advance!) ZZ Top ‘Tejas’ ,my all time favorite album of theirs.
Ben Folds Five
Loreena McKennitt - The mask and mirror
my refrigerator. I might include it in a song since it’s got more sense of harmony then it was ever meant to.
Oh yeah it’s got a nice solid beat
GG Allin and the murder junkies.
@Red Star, Loreena McKennitt had been sadly forgotten by my self. Plugged her name into Pandora and am now enjoying Kecharitomene from the An Ancient Muse album. Good stuff to be sure!
sterolab. How can you not love sterolab??? If you don’t love sterolab your ears are probably broken (either that or you just have diffrent taste in music then me).
@snuffegnugen, I love GG Allin!
@OTD Well, I had sadly forgotten it a bit myself, that´s the problem with big collections. Her music has just the perfect mood for this time of year.
@Red Star, Aye that. Got me bringing out the Enya and David Arkenstone from the back o’ the heap as well.
of course the current 93 one of the best crazy bands every (well more like guy really)
@snuffegnugen and mroyse- GG Allin? I have a brother in law that’s a cameraman. I remember many years ago he showed me some footage of a band that he was hired to film at a live show. The guy was running around naked, shoved the microphone up his arse, shit on stage, played with it and then threw it at people. The crowd was running for the doors. Could that have been GG Allin?
sounds like him
Yes, that was him. There is a documentary called Hated: GG Allin and the Murder junkies, which has some interviews along with live performances shot before his death in 1993 of a heroin overdose. Now, even though I love heavy metal, and even some graphically violent movies, this movie has some footage which is really disturbing. I respect him as a musician, and maybe even a social commentator, but I would have been amongst the first people headed for the door the moment he took a sh*t on stage. The guy was obviously intelligent, but lacked the education and perhaps the mental stability, to really make a difference. But, he is still influencing musicians today. Hank Williams III has been know to cover a few of his tracks such as “Punch, Fight and F*ck” and his heavier side projects like Arson Anthem and AssJack certainly have a murder junkies influence. Another interesting thing about this documentary is that it was directed by Todd Phillips, who also directed such films as: Old School, Starsky and Hutch (2004 version), and The Hangover
Hank Snow ‘Movin On’
I had actually forgotten about his version of “I’ve been everywhere” as I usually think of johnny cash doing that one. I think that put me in the mood to go listen to some Tennessee Ernie Ford.
the adicts, brings back some drunken memories.
@Snuffegnugen I just heard yesterday, they’re releasing more ‘unreleased’ Johnny Cash here soon. I still think his younger, hungry day music was his purest country…?
russian circles, radiohead, mewithoutYou, flying lotus, Four tet, meet me in st louis
@Bart- I’ll have to keep an eye out for that, I like the earlier Cash too, but also his darker stuff. @lofat-I wish more people knew about Mississippi Fred McDowell. He has had a major influence on music. Townes Van Zandt was a big fan and even modern day rockers like Clutch have borrowed things from him. (I am also a big fan of Lightnin’ Hopkins and Leadbelly).
one of my all time favorite songs three times in a row cause it’s one of the greatest songs ever. “Put your hand inside the puppethead” by “They might be giants”
“Dire Wolf” from Workingman’s Dead. Good to hear a lap steel on a snowy winters night…
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros. First time listing to it so not sure what to think about it yet. Definitely not The Clash, but still some good music.
I’m listening to a demo cd of the new songs I recorded(just guitar and vocals) for the new album for this year. I think it will be better than the last one.
tortoise. haven’t listened to them in a long while. What was I thinking putting it off for so long.
Some Billy Bragg, always good.
Seen Whitehouse live once, when Peter Sotos was still on board. There´s hardly anything comparable.
gotta love whitehouse especialy the story of how they got the name :).
Jim Croce- Bad, Bad Leeroy Brown.
that is definatly one of the things I find interesting about this list, the variety. I don’t know how much further you could go from white house then Jim Croce. Galaxies away except for on quality that is.
Jim Croce, classic! As a younger thought him tops, shame he biffed it so young. The variety in this thread does speak to the diversity in a forum. Refreshing (-: Good example, Pandora just brought up Arlo Guthrie for me, “Coming Into Los Angeles”
The lemonheads if you haven’t really listened to them it’d would be a good idea to check them out. Their kind of an indie folk, punky, sometimes countrish band with always amazing pop sensiblities. And their lyrics are super clever and often take a few listens to really catch how awesome what is being said. Plus Evan Dando has a great voice. Great example of their genere mixing is their song “I lied about being the outdoor type” it’s got a very old school country groove going on (it’s got the old school country walking bass line, then it got very rock elements.) Seriously their just a great band.
In Flames. A Sense of Purpose. I am absolutely obsessed with this band. From clear back in the Lunar Strain days all the way until now. IMHO In Flames is the best thing out of Sweden since snus and those rancid meatballs. After this when I decide to go for something a little more calming…it will inevitably be Radiohead
hehe I like the meatballs!
I like The Sounds.
Tom Waits, the Real Gone album.
Ahhh Tom Waits…a genius of epic porportions! Bone Machine and Rain Dogs are in my top best albums of all time!!
To be honest, while I like his later stuff very much, I still love his old stuff the best (Closing Time - Blue Valentine period), even though Waits himself says one of his least favorite albums is Blue Valentine. Oh well. I’ll like it for him.
His newer stuff is more preferable to me personally, however I also like the earlier offerings as well. Closing Time was excellent. Nighthawks at the Diner was good too. I think one of his best early songs had to be “Old '55” and I even still like “Downtown Train” which most people still heretically attribute to that travesty Rod Stewart
Don’t forget most people thought Old 55 was written by the (uurrrrkkk) Eagles. Sigh.
“Switched-On Bach” Wendy Carlos Very early MOOG synthesizer. Definitely different.
Aion, by Dead Can Dance. I’m starting to feel like an old fart for the music I listen to sometimes.
Eh? Dead Can Dance makes me an old fart? I first gave em’ a listen sometime around… oh, I am an old fart (-;
Tom Waits is one of my heros. I love all his stuff. Though the later sits better with me then again I really like industrial music which he seems to fit into that genre in the strangest way (which is the best way cause if industrial isn’t unquie or strange it sucks.)
I’m listening to Waits’s Doom & Glitter album today…
black monk time - The Monks
Giya Kancheli “Mourned by the Wind” Liturgy for Viola and Orchestra. Digging through my record collection at the moment. I have a good assortment of classical and rock music - a bit eclectic.
For some reason, the majority of the old 78’s I have or come across are classical,(mostly the big name composers), minstrels (Al Jolson), comedy, (Eddie Cantor),early ‘mountain’ type and gospel music (Chuckwagon Gang, Bill and Charlie Monroe, Carter Family), and Hawaiian instrumentals. The ones that surprise me are the classical and Hawaiian. My Grandpa always referred to classical music as ‘longhair music’ LOL, but I guess if a person was going to invest in a record, which I’m sure where pricey back then, you purchased something you felt had value- a great work by a composer, especially if you were an immigrant to the US and it reminded you of your homeland. The Hawaiian music, I’m guessing Hawaii was looked on as a mystical place in the early 1900’s leading up to statehood in 1959. MY grandpa born in 1905, said every talked of going there some day. Then even if you couldn’t afford to go there, you could at least hear the sounds of Hawaii and dream of it. I have three different needles for my Victrola and depending what diameter needle you put in, held with a simple set screw, that determines the volume the record is played. You can also close or open the front doors to muffle or increase volume. I guess my point is, With all the advances in recording and sound clarity, I still prefer the sound when a needle hits the groove in an old 78 and the cracking and popping can be heard, and all the music and singing sounds so far away (some of it almost a century away now), and you wonder how you would have faired in those simple days back when it was recorded. I’m sure some see no value in the old music. I look at it as the footer foundation that supports the rest. Well, that’s my Off Topic post on old records, I suppose…
I have my grandpa’s collection of 78s as well; everything from the Smoky Mountain Boys to an entire 4-disc recording of the New York Philharmonic performing Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances (ca 1934). Along with my open-reel tape recorder, I will NEVER give up vinyl (or 78 rpm porcelain!).
joy division, galixie 500, the pillows. I wish I was listening to sleep chamber but can’t find the disk it’s probably stolen by a demon.
omg, I can´t even remember when I´d last dropped an ear on Sleep Chamber. Not this century. Nature and Organisation - Beauty reaps the blood of solitude
Well with sleep chamber you could consider that a good or bad thing depending on the album or albums in question. They do vary widely and wildly, which is one of the things I love about them. And the guy who is the band is a freak in the best and worst ways I can mean that. I forgot about nature and organisation. I’ve not heard them in years and last time I checked didn’t like them. Which means I have no idea what I’ll think about them now. There are two kinds of bad music one that I can’t see how anyone would like it, and it just isn’t hitting my buttons but I can respect it and see why people like it (for me kiss is a great example never got into them but I can easily see how someone would). Nature and Organisation I respected so may love them now. A long winded way of saying thanks for the reminder.
For a touch of class and sophistication… Boccherini La Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid. A truely amazing peice!
I start listening new bands only occasionally, but there are 2 things that caught my attention recently: Scroobius Pip vs. Dan Le Sac - Thou Shalt Always Kill, DevelopmentNujabes - Samurai Champloo OST
@Xsys. That, Thou Shalt Always Kill isn’t too bad, nor is the development. Rather like them actually although not something I would normally go for. Good stuff.
I am not into “normal” hip hop, because most of the culuture and hype around it is too flashy and cocky for me. But I occasionally pick some stuff that is close to spoken poetry or is experimental in some other way. Scroobius Pip is amazing those ways and I really admire the way he uses his voice and language. One can see that in his other collaborations: Astronaut and few songs done together with I shouted gun.
Picked up 4 new CD’s las night on itunes and spend a couple hours just chilling out and listening to them. Slayer-“world painted blood”, very well done, these guys have continued to refine their sound in the nearly 30 years they’ve been around and this one doesn’t disappoint. The Company Band-“self-titled”- This is a side project of Neil Fallon from Clutch and a few others. If your a fan of straight up rock you’ll certainly enjoy this. Thou-“oakland singles”- This isn’t the thou referenced above in snuffin’s message. This is a doom metal band that is simply amazing. If you like that slow, down tuned stoner sound like Sleep, Electric Wizard, and such you’ll like this. Howl-self titled- Another doom record with a similar audience as thou above.
blonde Redhead the album23. An amazing album all around.
@Bob: Funny, I have downloaded Fake can be just as good and La Mia Vita Violenta to remember old times. I listened to this stuff 5 years ago.
Chicago - Saturday in the Park
xsys amazing isn’t it. Some bands can definatly blow minds. At least I think so.
Skinny Puppy - Bites Haven´t listened to this one for ages…
Erik Satie assorted piano music - stuff I’m learning to play at the moment.
I love the Skinny Puppy album “too Dark Park”. Really the only skinny puppy album I’ve heard that I actualy like. Though in my opnion it’s good enough to make up for the other albums I’ve heard being less enjoyable.
@bob I´d say it´s the catchiest one. Morpheus laughing - fantastic song.
@bob: And Blonde Redhead certainly can… I was quite stunned at my 15 when I first listened to them. At first I thought: “What an unpleasant sound!” but just after few minutes that swirling vortex of disharmony, disstortion and noise filled with hysterical singing caught my ear and I was trapped. Yes, that was a mindblowing experience.
Ramones, “Bonzo goes to Bitburg”
love “forever changes” what an amazing album. Rememeber their the band jim morrision wished he was as famous as.
BBC Radio 2
lil wayne
Vampire Weekend - California English
Bill Monroe “Footprints in the Snow”
This Swedish metal rock band called Bullet - Bite the Bullet, really great, like classic AC/DC and Accept in a blender.
Tom T. Hall “I Like Beer”
Protest the Hero - Bloodmeat If you’re into post-hardcore (for the older guys here, that’d be heavy-instrumented music with a focus on guitar technicality and screaming for emphisis in the vocals XD) take a listen to it. Their Fortress album is amazing.
Deiphago - Filipino Antichrist.
Wishbone Ash - Sometime World
Ramones ‘Rockaway Beach’
Since today is Texas independance day I have been listening to Kevin Fowler all day. I am a native Texan but have a wife and a buisiness in southern cali now so I live there. i miss the BBQ the hospitality and the Country music.
I’ve been listening to the new High on Fire cd “snakes for the Divine” since it came out last week. It’s absolutely amazing.
Diablo Swing Orchestra - The Butcher’s Ballroom
I’m listening to silence…It’s golden, you know.
At the moment, my son playing his drum set very loudly.
If I was you snuffster I’d barg into his room and scream at the top of my lungs like I was angry “That racket…” then quickly switch to my heavy metal rockin face and continue by saying “rocks out”, then I’d walk out like nothing happened. Of course I don’t think I’ll ever have childrens.
Snuffster, I feel your pain. lol I’m listening to Trotter Trio radio on lastfm.
John Hartford Steam Powered Aereo-Plain
Dennis Wilson - River Song (Pacific Ocean Blue album)
Some “Music to snuff by” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZhfFXEMMI4
I don’t know WHAT put this in my head but I should find the source and violently beat it to death because now I have cycling around in my head" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-DuC0tE7V4 “Lollipop lollipop oh lally lally lally lallipop…!” buhdumdumdum Lollipop lollipop oh lally lally lally lallipop!" (I’m okay, honest I am, really… I swear it… I am!)
Aight… I must be the only one here in this thread now? Physical therapist was here and mentioned he’d “been to Decatur” (I asked which one) and pointed out there is one in MIchigan, another in Indiana and… well… I thought this song was really well known (but it wasn’t to my PT and I’ve only found one copy of it on YouTube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FIAuhe5jds
Darkthrone - F.O.A.D.
Darkthrone - The Cult is Alive.
Glad to see some Darkthrone Fans on here. Of course, its so easy to get their music nowadays, but when I first got into them in the mid-90’s I would have to go down to the music store, find them in this big encyclopedia book of music, place an order, pay for international shipping and then play the waiting game. “Transylvanian Hunger” is a classic, but I love to turn off all the lights and play “Goatlord” sometimes. That album is so evil it scares me
Wow. Didn’t think there’d be any other Darkthrone fans here. And yeah, I know all about having to order things. I lived in a tiny little town in Arizona(population of 6000) and the only way to get any music like that was to order it and then wait for a month lol. And I love the old Darkthrone, but this new stuff, the crust punk, is so much fun. You can just imagine Nocturno and Fenriz sitting around, getting drunk, having the time of their lives while recording this stuff.
If you like punkish old school metal, check out my band, ASTRUM, we have 4 great reviews on Metal Archives, and in the process of making a new album now. http://www.myspace.com/themightyastrum
woops nevermind, got tom502 confused with slobandtom (got confused and for a minute thought tom502 lived in Kalamazoo and was starting to ask if he knew Matt Giraurd or played the same places… That was our Kzoo guy that got really far on American Idol) I’m going to blame this brain fart on ‘nicotine withdrawals’ (I’m trying going a day on only snuff and a lower potency mix, no snus) “and thats my story and I’m sticking to it”
The Slits’ Y3LP - The Official Bootleg, aka Once Upon a Time in a Living Room. Still astonishing after all this time.
Tom, not bad stuff at all. You guys have a real Hellhammer sound going on.
noob, thanks. I just got back from rehearsal. We are in a new phase now, as we got 2 new guys. We got 4 new songs down pretty good. The next album should really rock, even more than the last. Plus we plan on playing some shows. I’m also trying to find a label, or we’ll just do it ourselves.
I was listening to Alice In Chains’ “Rooster” on the radio yesterday, and I just realized that, though I know it’s not meant in the sense that we use the word “snuff”, or our “Rooster”, but it’s still funny that the lyrics are “Here they come to snuff the Rooster.” If it weren’t a song about 'Nam, I might mistake it for the only song I have ever heard about snuff taking.
I always love hearing Rooster…reminds me of this site. Listening to www.pandoraradio.com
Beers, Steers and Queers by Revolting Cocks
Playing Bach’s Prelude from 2nd cello suite and enjoying my F&T HDT…
Crown Imperial by William Walton, as performed by the Dallas Winds with Mary Preston at the organ, on the way to work (thank you WRCJ). If that doesn’t put a charge of gunpowder up your butt at 6:52 am nothing will.
Beatles - A Hard Day’s Night
Just heard Brigitte Bardot’s B.B. album, now The Birthday Party - Prayers On Fire.
NOFX and BAD REligion. Guess I’am being nostalgick or something. Good shit though.
Burzum - Belus
@tom502 wow, not many people even know of Burzum, especially with Varg’s whole NSBM kick that he was on. And from what I heard, prison did him well and he’s now a family man lol.
Demon Hunter- The World is a Thorn.
noob- the new album reminds me a bit of Filosofem, with it’s hypnotic guitar, kinda like Transylvanian Hunger, that tremolo picking type thing. I sorta try this style with my BM project Kosmokrater, myspace.com/kosmokratermusic
Count Raven - Master of Confusion
Right now I am not listening to anything, just doing work. However, tomorrow night (Saturday) I’m going to see Mozart’s Requiem, which I adore and cannot stop thinking about. Might even bring a little snuff and enjoy that while listening to “Lacrimosa” or “Confutatis”. Hopefully the people around me don’t think I’m getting high in the middle of a concert.
Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is my favorite. I used to have an old 33 rpm of Mozart Piano concertos he wrote as a boy I believe. About brought tears to your eyes. Really amazing the skill some of those little fellers tapped into back then.
@ Bart: I actually saw Beethoven’s 9th last November or so, it was amazing live. Also, I agree about Mozart as a boy, truly amazing skill, both in playing piano and composing pieces, at such a young age.
MMuk You really have to check out ‘Switched on Bach’, (Wendy Carlos). I wouldn’t consider it classical- more 60’s techno-psycho. Very interesting recordings, all early MOOG!!.
Well, I saw L.A. Guns last night. Not sure if anyone remembers them, they had a few hits in the mid-late 80’s. But, primarily I went because one of my co-workers is in a local band called Suicide Lies (they are on myspace if you want to check them out) and they got tapped to open the show. In my opinion they were actually better than the headliner, but who am I to judge. Right now though I’m listening to a little Cannibal Corpse “Evisceration Plague”.
Listening to Guns-N-Roses and snorting Rooster likes its cool.
Paradise Lost , Draconian Times.
@ Bart & # midnightmosesuk: I agree on the Wendy (formerly Walter) Carlos Moog stuff. I love her (his) renditions of classical pieces on a synth, especially Queen Mary’s Funeral March, best known for the opening sequence in A Clockwork Orange.
Komputer - World of Tomorrow.
Queen | Gimme the Prize (Kurgan’s Theme)
My band, here is a rehearsal clip of a song we did yesterday, copy and paste, comments welcome: http://www.youtube.com/v/XGf7Qig-JOA&hl=en\\_US&fs=1&
Bauhaus - She is in parties. It reminds me my vampiresc 15 year old age lol.It is a great song best regards, Holonmax
@tom502: Can’t really hear the lyrics. The instrumental sounds great, though.
@tom502 Your band have that good old days Black Metal feeling. Tom Warrior would be proud. Congrats
Thanks, I have more vids up on youtube, user name astrum502. Yeah I know the rehearsal clips are not the best sound, but it’s just rehearsal.
I thought youtube was only used for snuff reviews. Shows what I’ve been missing.
Pavement
John Fahey: America.
Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones
Digital Dubs - Deb Dub JAH BLESS YOU!
By the way" which I think kicks the ass off the older chilli peppers albums by the way.
Q: are we not men? A: we are devo
Mozart I have been on a classical kick for a couple of weeks now, today I am listening to Mozart. AWESOME STUFF
Papa Mali - Do Your ThingPapa Mali - Thunder ChickenMy favorite entertainer as of late. Has a new band called 7 Walkers with Bill Kreutzman(Grateful Dead), Reed Mathis(Tea Leaf Green), and Matt Hubbard(Willie Nelson). Check them out.
I uploaded 3 new songs from my black metal project Kosmokrater to my myspace yesterday, if anyone wants to check them out, I’d be happy to hear comments: http://www.myspace.com/kosmokratermusic Thanks
Scored an 8 Track player a couple days ago. Preparing to shove Van Halen in to see how it sounds.
They can be found for a quarter a piece, sometimes free. I’ll have to ask Toffee if the 8 track was ever popular in England or if she sees them. I believe she works in the music industry?
Smile was their best work. IMHO.
You listening to 8 track now, BB1, or some new -fangled technology?
Ah, yes. I’m in the same boat. Good to keep that old music and remember sitting around when they were alive, listening with them.
Just listened to the Serj Tankian gig at the Forum in London, which I was at. No studio overdubs which is nice and quite rare.
perfect circle now to play GTA
My wife’s nagging.
Christ Inversion’s self titled CD at the moment. It’s a pretty interesting CD as it’s one of the side projects of former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo. It’s pretty much black metal, but some of the songs almost seem like invocations. Not recommended for the religiously delusional or easily frightened.
My daughters new dramatic tragedy (cars broken down, can I borrow this can I borrow that, men are jerks…) wheres my toque??? Oh there it is
Eric Dolphy for the first time ever actualy. Definatly gotta check more of this guys stuff out.
Now listening to Rummelsnuff(!) Halt Durch!
jawbreaker the song chesterfield king off of the album bivouac a classic of the genre.
oh yeah and mad world always reminds me of donnie darko what an awesomely strange movie.
YOB-“The illusion of motion” While this cd only has 4 songs, it’s something like 60 minutes long. Anyway, if you are a fan of stoner/doom metal, I would highly recommend giving one of their albums a listen (can be found on itunes). And this isn’t something you just throw in the ipod and listen to at random. Don’t get me wrong, each song is great, but when you commit to listening to the album all the way through, it’s perfectly arranged to take you on a musical trek through the heart of oblivion.
Lair of the Minotaur
To My Queen by Walt Dickerson. For my money Dickerson was the greatest vibraphonist in all of jazz. This record always makes me feel hopeful, no matter how dark my mood may be. The duet album he did with Sun Ra (Visions, 1978) is pretty fantastic as well.
Darkthrone - Circle the Wagons
Flogging Molly 'Worst Day Since Yesterday"
UK Doom band Warning.
Q: Are we not men? A: We are DEVO!
Genocide Organ - Klaus Barbie
Ein Kinderspeil by Helmut Lachenmann.
Anathema Judgment This stuff is beautiful.
Well, since I’ve been posting and reading this forum for a few months I thought I’d spend a little time on this thread seeing that I believe snuff is a good lynch-pin into other cultural things we all might agree on. I’m always on the lookout for new music. Blown away by the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
I listened to a little Iron Butterfly today, and probably a bit of the classic Butthole Surfers, PCPPEP (on vinyl), soon.
ZZ Top “Tejas”
Multiple Myselves By: Violent J
Rummelsnuff - Freier Fall
Yes the buttholes are fabulos. Listening to them right now just because.
@bob: Glad to see a fellow Surfers fan here!
Shoulder hoppers more like it.
@sfingle & bob:… May I see your license & registration? Uh, certainly. What’re you guys doing? Chewing chocolate. Where’d you get it? Doggy dropped it. …carry on…
assorted Pixies tunes
MachineHead- The Blackening
@The Nose Knows. You reminded me of the first time I saw the video for the Song “Machinehead” by Bush. I was flipping the channels and the blurb in the corner of the screen which list the band the song…etc… flashed by but I caught the word machine head. I said shit thats awesome I’ve not seen one of their videos. My next thought was good they sold out and went down hill really fast. Then I thought wait it’s not them damn Bush they don’t even deserve to use that word in a song let alone song title. P.s. yup the butthole surfers rock.
BUtthole Surfers…aaaah that brings back memories. Hairway to Steven was a masterpeice. Yes Bush should have been clubbed to death for naming a crappy song with the same name as a legendary metal band. However Machinehead is still churning out albums of awesomeness while Bush…is…ummmm, well who the heck knows or cares
Though that dumb bush song did give me an excuse to turn some people onto MachineHead the band. Thanks for reminding me about them I’ve not listened to them in years.
@bish777: Nice, I’ve been listening to them to lately, I even just recently covered “Caribou” with my friend, about a week or two ago.
The Pixies are one of my favourite bands
Yes, very unique or “Avante Garde” as some people say. And Black Francis’ scream is one of the most memorable and distinguishable in rock to me.
Just listened to Type O Negative’s “bloody kisses”. I had been meaning to dig out the cd and give it a listen ever since the lead singer died last week. Every now and then they play “black no 1” on the radio or something, but there are some other good songs on the album
Dada - American Highway Flower one of my all time top 5 bands
I know it’s old news, but I listened to this a few minutes ago and couldn’t hold in the laughter. Nice release after 10+ hours of writing this history paper. :-/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WALIARHHLII
my old stuff.
MMarkich too funny! I ended up watching clips of babies laughing after going through a few dumb blonde links.
Fell asleep thinking about Detroit, other semi-related "bigger scale’ issues (how people treat each other, equal rights, any rights at all, where this country is going, etc), and had one of those ‘important dreams,’ (maybe somebody here has had those), woke up, and this song has been in my mind all day ever since"The Dr King Song" (that’s how I think of it)
Courtesy of Saucy_jack in another thread:Musicak Youth – Pass the Dutchie
The wind which is pretty crazy untop of this ole hill on which I live.
Third movement of Beethoven’s final symphony.
What eclectic tastes you guys have! Me, I’m listening to Imelda May, rockabilly singer from Dublin. I’m going to her gig in a few hours here in Helsinki. Whee! Will take some small tins of easy snuffs with me, for convert purposes.
Black Flag
@bish, Nice choice, Keith Morris or Henry Rollins variety? Now you got me wanting to play a little MinorThreat or Cro-mags.
I’ve been listening to Uriah Heep most of the day. The Firefly CD now.
Right now, it’s MIDI LIDI: Pokoj along with some Toque Peppermint
@ bipolar hehehe, there’s a blast from the past! Memories associated with Uriah Heep… was I ever really that young and crazed?
Hank Snow “The Singing Ranger” on this fine day
A lot of different works by Bach and Rachmaninoff.
The Macc Lads: “No Sheep till Buxton” If you’r feeling brave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOm8uv22e2U&feature=related The macc lads are essentially the purest punk band going. Everything they sing about is guaranteed to offend somebody.
some good ol’ live grateful dead
Any minute now the new Iron Maiden single will have downloaded, and I will be listening to that. Go to ironmaiden.com if you want the free track.
6 comm? I was still trying to figure out if they were real or if I just dreamed them up myself.
@bish777: “The macc lads are essentially the purest punk band going.” WERE, surely ? I saw them supporting Bad Manners a good few years ago.
tomorrow night I’ll be listening to Phish because I am going to the tour opener in chicago fuck yeah
Maiden
Billy Childish, Hot Snakes, Al Green. I just checked 6 comm on YouTube. 80’s electronic stuff, not my cuppa tea but they have the best sounding LP title ever.
Mogwai - The Sun Smells Too Loud Spent most of today listening to post-rock. Very nice, very laid back. A good day has been had.
I’ve been listening to Josh Ritter’s latest album So Runs The World Away. Very beautiful and powerful music! Here’s taster in puppet anination video form: The Curse
Just picked up 2 new releases on itunes Those Poor Bastards- “Gospel Haunted” This is some really good old-timey gothic doom country. If you’ve never heard of these guys they are worth checking out. Danzig- “Deth Red Sabaoth” What else is there to say, it’s Glen Danzig, the guy is a legend, 30+ yrs on the scene.
Dave Edmunds. Repeat When Necessary and Tracks on Wax. Obsessively.
Nevermore - Obsidian Conspiracy, the whole new album. Not bad, but could be better. also this.
I just got the new Danzig, what I hear is not bad at all. I just really miss the line up for his 1st 3 albums. I saw then live during that time too, he was the metal rock god back then.
The Seatbelts - Don’t Bother None I’m liking it.
Phish summer 2010 shows. mmm mm good.
7 Walkers: Live in Denver bootleg I love Internet Archive.
Queensryche - operation mindcrime album. One of my all time favorites.
The wind tells me thing I can’t repeat, but the sun reflects the shadows as evidence of the resounding mimics I hear.
Vernian Process - The Alchemist’s Vision
Krypt
Dick’s pick #7
Purchased 2 new gems today: Radio Moscow-“self titled”- Really awesome band out of Iowa. Sort of a throw back to yesteryear sounding something like a mix of Cream, Black Sabbath, the Black Keys and Witchcraft. Certainly has that psychedelic, stoner vibe throughout. Blood Ceremony- “self titled” Another new band having sort of a retro sound to it. The female singer also plays the flute, a la Jethro Tull, but it’s a lot heavier with the guitars and drums more in line with band like Electric Wizard. Anyway, I highly recommend checking this band out.
New Danzig album.
If anyone wants a copy of my last ASTRUM CD, it’s a quality press/package, good recording quality, paypal me $8, and I’ll mail you one. It’s old school style blackened thrash with a punk attitude. You can hear some of it at myspace.com/themightyastrum and on youtube under ASTRUM502.
RHCP Around the World

Bo Carter - country blues guy who recorded in the 1920-1940’s. He was known for the filthy nature of his lyrics but was quite an amazing guitarist. Some of his songs had titles like ‘Banana in your fruit basket’, ‘My pencil won’t write no more’, ‘Pin in your cushion’ and ‘Ram Rod Daddy’, but would probably be considered poetic compared to some of the stuff in the charts now.
Bobby Bland
I’ve never listened to any electronic music before, staying with metal/rock/classical music/rap etc. but my friend got me interested in something called dubstep. I don’t really know how to describe this type of music as I’m not familiar with electronic stuff but I kinda liked it and been listening to it for a few days. One of the guys worth checking on Youtube is called Belial whose tracks I’m listetning to at the moment.
Well dub in general is fucking awesome. Seriously dub is great.
Rush-A show of hands.
The Mountain Goats
A few hours ago, I recorded this cover song of Darkthrone, Transilvanian Hunger, and I uploaded it to youtube, so check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WJNqdN\\_fG0 Comments welcome

The theme from In Like Flint by Jerry Goldstein, inside my head for some reason. I have perfect recall and unfortunately the weirdest stuff turns up in there when I’m trying to do something…
Saturnus - Paradise Belongs To You
This afternoon I’m off on my annual trip to the biggest punk festival in the world at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Over 200 bands on 6 stages over 4 days ! Especially looking forward to seeing Gallows again, who are excellent live. The New York Dolls should be good for a laugh too I guess. Shame it’s in Blackpool which is a real toilet of a town, but hey ho.
Seth Lakeman’s new album, Hearts & Minds. @Brad_Majors - Rebellion, awesome! I wish I’d sorted myself out sooner so I could be on the way there too.
Sanna ja lapset - Pieni Murhapolttaja (Sanna and the children - Tiny Arsonist)

His Name Is Alive so far.
A jackhammer. Earplugs won’t even muffle it enough.
@ Xander LOL I feel your pain running one of those for a few days is a pain in the ass. Lots easier if you have a little Bobcat.
I’m not running it, just listening to it. Some concrete here is being torn up. A bobcat can’t fit where they are working, so jackhammer for a few more days it seems. I ran one before. The vibration stays with you way too long afterwards.
Well that sounds even worse. You get the amplified echo effect Lucky you. Im listening to Muse.
Graveland - Immortal Pride
Dax Riggs- “say goodnight to the world” I don’t know if any members on here remember Acid Bath, they released two highly regarded metal albums back in the early nineties and then went their separate ways. Anyway, Dax was the former lead singer for that band, but this solo stuff of his is a lot more mellow. Still pretty morbid though.
@snuffegnugen- I used to have the When the Kite String Pops CD
@bipolar, You have great taste indeed my friend. I haven’t heard from Tom502, but I’m sure he remembers Acid Bath as well.
I really never heard Acid Bath, but I am familiar with the name, and have seen their albums in some stores and in magazine ads. I spent all day in the studio yesterday, when I left, they were finishing up on guitars, and I believe the bass was gonne be recorded too, I hope so. That would mean next Sunday, all left to do would be vocals. This, new Astrum album is gonna be great.
U2 live in Frankfurt yesterday evening, was a great show
The new Maiden promo.
Gordon Lightfoot
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Man I’am out of the loop I’am suprised madien has anything new and that U2 is still alive. Me I’am listening to any old classic the gentle rain and the birds. Got one of the it’s raining in half of your yard and the birds are happy to be in the other half.
Rush also has something new: a digital equivalant of a single and a B side.
Pink Floyd The Wall, Now
Einstürzende Neubauten - Haus der Lüge
ABBA
ok enough of that. Time for Old Blind Dogs
“Yello - Ooooooh Yeah”. Just because it’s so darn creepy.
The “Mermaid Avenue” Album by Billy Bragg and Wilco.
Bathory - The Return…
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
@Mittens - How creepy is that?Einstürzende Neubauten Z.N.S.
Why Red Star are you destroying new houses??? There isn’t any nazi gold under them anyways. Sorry to confuse everyone but Einsturzende Neubauten is awesome.
Also the one skinny puppy album I think is really good.
Indeed, Too Dark Park is a classic, that was my first SP album. One of the most influental canadian bands for sure, even though they were deep underground. @bob Yes, it means collapsing new buildings and refers to those buildings being built after WW2, which all are called Neubauten. Indeed, the band´s awesome, but I guess by far not to everyone´s taste, to say the least.
@bob: Yep, thats the one that has my favorite Skinny Puppy song Grave Wisdom
Roareth - Acts I-VI
Currently I am listening to Kolinda, a Hungarian folk group circa 1970’s.
Bathory Blood Fire Death
Listening to my bands(ASTRUM) new album. We finished recording yesterday, and I have a non-finalized CD right now. It’s really great all the way through. Seems kinda more punky to me. If you like Toxic Holocaust, and English Dogs- Forward Into Battle, or Onslaught- Power From Hell, I think you’d like this. One song though I don’t like the verse vocal, I couldn’t get it right during recording, and last night I rewrote it, but I don’t know if/when I’ll be able to re-do it, but the way it is now, I don’t want to use it. So, I may save it for a future thing, but I wanna use it now. We had to let our bassist go. He’s a nice guy, but after months of practice, he just couldn’t do it, so I did the bass, and told him, we are going back to being a 3 piece.
Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park. Thought I would listen to this as I saw that some of ya’ll liked it. Listened to it right after I had listen to some Megadeth. I would have to say that I really enjoy it. Reminds me a little of Megadeth actually.
the sounds of my daughter playing her V-Smile learning video game
New ASTRUM(my band). If you like old Venom, Sodom, Frost, you might like this. If you want a sample of half the new album, in MP3s, email me at audio_impact(at)yahoo(dot)com. It’s not the final mix/master, but it’s awesome.
Artist: Strawberry Alarm Clock Album: Wake Up… It’s Tomorrow
Flotsam & Jetsam’s Suffer The Masses
I did sound for Flotsam and Jetsam once. If memory serves it was some time in 1996 or 97. Ken
Tool - Lateralus
To those who got the Astrum tracks, please post your opinions.
heh, I got the tracks, but at the time I was listening to Celtic Frost - Monotheist and forgot to listen to them. I’ll check’m out tomorrow
Well, I’m 43, and I grew up in my formative years with Frost, Venom, Sodom, Kreator, Bathory, when those band 1st came out, and I got their stuff when it was released, I was also into punk, like The Exploited, Subhumans, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Cro-mags, so all this stuff has had an influence on my music style of writing since the 80’s, and I think it naturally shows. It’s not retro, it’s what it is. I think you’ll dig it. I’m rockin’ to it now.
Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale
galaxie 500 again. Can’t get enough of this amazing band.
Black market by Weather Report awesome 70’s fusion.
A blast from the past: Cream – Outside Woman Blues
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
"Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral " I was listening to a bunch of tracks from that and Broken yesterday for the sake of potential cover or two. Ken
Dose anybody still listen to GBH??
Subdivisions by Rush
Yeah, I listen to GBH. I have their Clay records, and a live DVD.
G.B.H. are pretty cool. The Filaments’ “What’s Next” album for me tonight.
Rwake- “voices of omens” Been a while since I have played this entire CD, but god damn it’s amazing. Certainly not for the faint of heart, these guys are Arkansas’ premier sludge band. If you are a fan of Eyehategod, Electric Wizard, or Grief you should check these guys out.
Keith Jarret mellow piano is perfect for tonight.
the ringing in my ears. went to a concert tonight, Pentagrammaton Tour w/ Pathology, Iconoclast Contra, Destroyer 666, and Enthroned. Damn it was an awesome show.
the new final mix of the new ASTRUM album, it’s great, and dare I say, I think we made the perfect album. Best thing since Reign in Blood.
Rammstein - Mutter
Ramones “Mania”
Wayne Shorter. “footprints”. Gotta love the jazz.
I made a youtube of one of the new songs of my bands upcoming album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzn6fhE8iL8 comments welcome!
Moom - Toot
May I request some comments on my new posted song, in my previous post, I really like to hear opinions of my material.
Pretty good stuff tom, let me know when you release the cd, i want a copie
Thanks, sure thing. I also added 3 other new songs to the myspace yesterday, www.myspace.com/themightyastrum we still have to get the cover art done, and we wanna label shop with this one, and if no one bites, we’ll press it ourselves, but we believe, and everyone also says, that with this, we should get picked up, it’s just a matter of getting it heard by them.
Woah tom502, that’s one long sentence. But I guess that’s what happens when one is pretty excited about something. As for comments, I’m not one for black metal and the like (my little brother took care of that, you should see his collection of discs by bands that never quite made it mainstream). Apart from Cryhavoc. Their last album is the sh!t. Apart from that, I kind of like how clean the sound is. Usually those songs tend to be a lot more “noizey”. (Then again, maybe that’s the whole point, darned if I know.) As for the lyrics… I can’t really say much. Let me try and to put this in a constructive way… They sound a little comically standard for me. Something you’d find in a WoW machinima, perhaps. Not bad, not at all. Just sadly, not my cuppa. Edit: Cryhavoc - Pitch Black Ink
Thanks Mittens. Yeah, we did want a clear sound, and the lyrics and whole thing is largely inspired by the over the top VENOM(my fave band). I like cheesy lyrics, they seem the best when it comes to this style. Though, my lyrics do vary, like Blood and Sand is like an anti-war song.
I just wondered if you guys could reccomend me some new post rock stuff to listen too. I’ve just got into this and wondered if anybody could reccomend some stuff along the lines of Godspeed You Black Emporer, For a Minor Reflection, Mice Parade, The Photographic, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, Mogwai etc. Any help would be appreciated. Stefan
@Walrus, I’d add Red Sparrowes, maybeshewill, And So I Watch You From Afar, and 65daysofstatic (at a stretch) to that list. I’m just starting to get into it too. “I’m in Awe, Amadeus.” by maybeshewill is one of my favourite tracks ever.
tom, when I listen to you guys, all I hear is a cleaner version of HellHammer, is that a bad thing? No. right now, I’ve got The Doors: Sound Stage Performance on VH1 Classic
noob- Ha! No, it’s a GREAT thing. Thanks, I love Hellhammer.
Listening to Austin, Texas’ best “retro-rock” group, THE SWORD’s, new album “warp riders”. I’ve also got tickets to see them in October so I’m pretty stoked about that. This video is off a previous album, but it’s a good intro to the band.THE SWORD ON YOUTUBE
Alien Sex Fiend, “RIP” Old School shock-Horror goth like stuff. Pretty weird and out there but I enjoy it none the less.
Kate Bush “The Sensual World”.
Trooper BelieverThought some metal folks would like this, especially those that remember the Monkees. LMAO! ENJOY!!
That is so wrong. So wrong bart. I have to admit it made me chuckle.
edited: Bad link. But try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFRn-FlBIvQ
Cheers Spam, I’ll have a look around for those bands. I can really recommend Pictures of a Changing World by The Photographic. One of my favourite albums ever. Stefan
Allman Brothers Band – Statesboro Blues
Phish ohhhhh yeahhhhhh
The Byrds - 20 Essential Tracks
vnv nation it is o.k.
@ Bart: Thank you. Now both songs are forever ruined for me. Five minutes of laughing and the rest of my life not being able to forget it. I guess any songs with the same time signature could be given a similar treatment?
Haha! Yeah, I listened over and over and couldn’t believe how they fit so well. The refrains have been adjusted a bit I believe…those songs are ruined for me too, now. IRON MONKEES!!
They had to speed up maiden a bit. Kinda makes the monkees more metal then they seem.
ES Posthumus, album “Unearthed”. I know, I’m strange. I’d definitely recommend a listen if you like soundtracky music.
Das Modell by Rammstein, a great remake of a good Kraftwerk song
D.R.I. “Thrash Zone” I basically re-discovered an album I once owned back in 7th grade (1989). I’m not sure how many fans of thrash metal we have on here, but DRI was an extremely influential band that helped bridge the gap between hardcore/punk/and metal. It’s probably been 15 years since I last heard this album, but now that I’m a little older and wiser I can certainly appreciate just how good this album really was.
@Bart Lol!!! I like the Mark Vidler/Go Home Productions mash ups. There’s one up on his site that juxtaposes “Like A Virgin” with “Baba O’ Reilly”. Funny stuff
I used to have DRI’s Crossover album(cassette) back in the day. Not a big fan of them, but they have their place in metal history.
Subvert’s 2010 Shambhala set. I was there. It was great.
This week I’ve been listening to lots of Leo Kottke - my favourite guitar player and my biggest influence and inspiration in playing guitar. A lot of John Fahey, who helped put Kottke on the map, and The Pretty Reckless who I was expecting to dislike but they are actually pretty good. The singer is the young blonde girl from the TV show ‘Gossip Girl’. She has a great voice which reminds me a lot of Courtney Love.
Seasick Steve. The man can make those things he plays squeal something grand.
Radio Jackie.

Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
a song I wrote.
I do that all the time.
@TotalSnuff: Chris LeDoux passed away? w…t…f… Just looked it up. Damn. What rock have I been under?
The way I understand it, Chris LeDoux was a big influence on Garth Brooks.
David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes
That’s my favorite Bowie album, Scary Monsters. And sadly, I never liked anything he did after it.
Pink Floyd “Atom Heart Mother”. Strange, but enjoyable as it always was.
Monty Python – I Like Chinese
Dethklok’s first cd

@tom502: Nice one. I was at the final gig of The Rutles farewell tour a few years back. The tour poster and the tickets got framed and are hanging in my toilet.
Mostly some old Townes Van Zandt tonight. I just loaded my Ipod with everything of his I had and threw it on the bose to enjoy whilst grilling Salmon and drinking beer. Fu*kin A! PS “The swimming pool was full of rum and I tried to find out why. All I learned was this my friends, you’ve got to swim before you fly”
New pair of computer speakers, Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II and Bob James/Earl Klugh Cool album. These soundsticks are awesome at USD 113 delivered. Crisp!
Turmion Kätilöt - Kirosana (Loosely translated: The Midwives of Doom - Swearword) Some awesome lyrics in this song: My command is your religion, Antichrist Social security integrated into your skull Action activating propaganda Which cleanses you, because The organization of your central nervous system Is optimized to withstand death A strange beat is coarsing through your veins Mind decimating sequence YOU ARE NOT A HUMAN!
the smiths. It has to be done sometimes. I used to hate this band and wonder how anyone could like them. I still don’t like Morriseys solo stuff.
Grateful Dead “Three From The Vault”.
_The The - Dusk_Haven’t listened to this for a long time. Good stuff!
Band of Skulls - give em a go, fantastic stuff.
Deep Down Trama Hounds Remix from the album 12" Anthology by Skinny Puppy. It even has clips from my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoon. “There is a rabbit loose in the castle Rudolph”
Just got back from seeing THE SWORD live in Seattle on monday. Great show and the bonus was liking the opening band I never heard of called KARMA TO BURN. If you haven’t heard of the sword I recommend checking them out. They are certainly heavy, but not balls out metal. A little more bluesy, with lots of solid guitar work.
I have the last 2 The Sword albums, but I don’t have their new one. I do like what I have. I think they have a retro metal sound sorta like in the old Black Sabbath vein, but unique in their own sound.
Wow, spent a couple hours this weekend digesting the new Arson Anthem CD, Insecurity Notoriety. For underground metal, this has to be as close to a super group as you can get. Former frontman Phil Anselmo of Pantera plays the guitar, while Hank WIlliams III keeps beat on the tubs, and Mike Williams from Eyehategod belts out the lyrics. Basically this album is the magic that happens when 4 friends get together on a swamp in Louisiana to play the kind of metal they grew up listening to. ***not for the faint of heart*****
Finally found a good internet radio. Listening to Jeff Beck on Jango.
Well after taking my first pinch of Toque Christmas pudding and having it throw me back to my youth, I had to listen to Burl Ives Christmas albums. I know its a little early this year but the mood just called for it.
I made a new youtube clip of a song that has a sorta Danzig vibe to it. It’s in youtube under Timpaler World Go Away. if you listen to it, tell me what you think.
Quite an odd mix. I got an alert that Electric Wizard’s new album “Black Masses” was out. For those of you fans of doom/sludge/stoner rock you probably already know about these guys. They are probably one of the heaviest hitters out there and the new album doesn’t fail to disappoint. Like most of their records the album is best enjoyed in one sitting, listening from start to finish. Now for the odd part. While I was on itunes I also picked up 10,000 maniacs live Unplugged album. I had this album back in HS and while I mostly listen to Heavy metal, Natalie Merchant’s voice just butters my grits.
the smiths. I don’t know what happened but I’ve been digging them alot recently.
Toxic Holocaust’s -“An overdose of death” Despite being released in 2008, this is classic Thrash Metal. If you like DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Armored Saint, or the likes I highly recommend checking these guys out.
If you like Toxic Holocaust, you might like my band, ASTRUM’s stuff: http://www.youtube.com/user/ASTRUM502 I’ve recently put up a few demo songs for the next album, along with a couple of Danzig inspired songs. I just saw Toxic Holocaust live a few days back, maybe a week or so, with Danzig, Possessed, Marduk, and Withered.
I posted my band’s CD on eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/timallen67\\_W0QQ\\_nkwZQQ\\_armrsZ1QQ\\_fromZQQ\\_mdoZ
Birthday Massacre Pins and Needles. Frankly I think this is one of the best albums released recently. Definatly an album I’ll be listening to years from now.
“fake jazz” assumed the following in the Bay Area all went streaming radio; killed the station. Feeling like venting and fake jazz, so Fourplay. No snoring!
OK, just shuffled it, Shoot Me Again --Metallica.
I’ve been getting exposed to a lot of new music in all sorts of genres lately. Most impressive artist I heard today is a blues guitarist and singer named Laurie Morvan. Damn, she’s got some hot licks! I hear her band is touring the US now, too, so you might want to check them out if you like electric blues.
Haven’t played it yet, but I just picked up the reissue of “Hell is a door to the sun” by Arkansas sludge metal legends Rwake. I heard a bootleg of this back in the day, but I’m glad to see the re-mastered version actually get released. I first saw these guys back in 2002 when they opened for EYEHATEGOD at a small club in Little Rock and they certainly set the stage. Anyway, if you like the genre I suggest checking them out. Here is a link to one of their youtube videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnsjYTw9j6s
Deftones
System of a down! Theyre coming to vancouver but i really dont want to spend a lot of money on tickets. That would be one hell of a show!
REO Speedwagon
I’ve got “The Water Glass,” by The Melvins going on right now. Later I need to sort through all the Mogwai stuff I downloaded off archives.org last night, as well as giving their new album a few more spins.
listening to the master copy of my new release and trying to get the analogue transfer to sound right (I am releasing it on a microcassette label).
Sky.FM Dreamscapes, an online station that plays creepy chill out music.
By the way, I was wondering if anyone on here had an account over on Last.fm. Would be interesting to see how similar (or disparate) the musical tastes of us snuffers is.
http://www.last.fm/user/Jaybob404 very eclectic library on there… everything for grindcore metal and chill folk to Ghanaian Highlife and Indonesian 60’s rock.
Good to know there are lovers of metal on this forum. As my avatar suggests, I am listening to the two Spawn of Possession albums for the last month or so and I think it`ll last for quite some time. Such amazing, technical, deeply complex, neoclassical death metal. Every time you listen to it you find something new to trip about! It takes some time for the ear to get accustomed though, but how rewarding! If Rachmaninov would still be living in this era I guess he would be a member of this band. For those willing to try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z79-Zp6A7o
A while back, I saw this movie called: “Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny”. I LOVED this movie. I knew of Jack Black, but I had never heard the Tenacious D. I think it rocked. Then about a week ago I was at a used DVD/CD shop, and I bought this DVD 2 disc set called Tenacious D Masterworks, it was 2.99 and looked like new, and it had a full concert and the HBO show episodes, and I loved it. So, the other day I was looking on Amazon, and bought the 2 Tenacious D CDs. I got one in the mail today, the soundtrack to The Pick of Destiny, I bought it used because it was 89 cents + postage, it said “like new”, but it’s not, rather scuffy actually, but it seems to play fine so far, I have it on now. But, anyway, I think this Tenacious D is great, it rocks and it really talented, I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHGdeIabWBk this is me just in case you are curious
@Pike Mopers That’s really good! I have never heard the original version but I can feel the intensity in your song and for me that’s what music is all about.
thanks!
Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Joe Pass. I listen to all types of music, but I’m on a real jazz kick right now. Also, Mr. Zappa’s “jazz from hell”.
@tom502: Tenacious D is funny as hell. Jack Black has been using that recurring idea for years now. His comedy almost always involves music. I almost wet my pants watching the movie, especially during the sasquatch mushroom trip scene. Very clever songs and concepts.
Cancer slug - Battle Hymns 2 but im soon putting Wagner back on. Usually classical or hardcore punk.
http://www.last.fm/user/Ichise Currently playing a few Mogwai songs. Seems @PikeMopers and I have some shared tastes. I did have to laugh when I saw one of the last played bands was Dara Puspita, as I’d just found out about them a short while ago.
New Antlers on NPR’s “First Listen” …
Bach – Concerto for 2 violins (bwv 1043). The second movement.
@shikitohno http://madrotter.blogspot.com/search?q=dara+puspita this guy “Madrotter” rips a ton of excellent Indonesian albums. Do a search on there for Koes Plus as well to get some great stuff! good to see another Mountain Goats fan on snuffhouse! I’m going to see him play in a tiny venue (200-400 people) next month and I’m so freakin pumped.
Hmm, for some reason, this thread is the only one that doesn’t show new posts for me when I go to the main page. Every other thread will say “X new comments,” but not this. Anyone know why?
Same here… that’s odd Periphery “Frak the Gods”
At the moment, my iPod’s shuffle is serving up “Brokedown Palace” by the Grateful Dead.
My wife listening to Oprah… AAAHH MAKE IT STOP!
Les Rallizes Dénudés – Blind Baby Has Its Mother’s Eyes
I have just gone out and bought the new Kate Bush album ‘The Director’s Cut’, special collector’s edition. I won’t be able to buy anything for the rest of the month, but it doesn’t matter - I love Kate Bush more than is entirely healthy or appropriate.
I’m listening to the final mix master of my band ASTRUM’s new CD Tales of Witchlore. The final mix is so much better, and I may take down the old clips on Youtube and replace them with the final mix tracks, it’s really a big difference. I think this new CD came out great, a big step forward from the previous, and on par with VENOM’s Black Metal. I think I’m setting June 6 as the release date, but I need to print the inlays.
Leonard Cohen, Live in London. I watched the performance on DVD recently and and was mesmerized. Purchased the CD and it’s all I’ve listened to for the last week. A true master.
高柳昌行 New Direction – Intermittent, playing in Quod Libet.
Merzbow - Varitions for Electric Fan any Merz fans in here?
I updated my Reverbnation ASTRUM page, added some songs and stuff: http://www.reverbnation.com/themightyastrum
@tom502 do you play an instrument or vocalize for that group?
SnuffyPM there’s a nice version of Vincent on you tube with Chet Atkins filling out on guitar. I recall that Don McLean went on to write some quite strange and powerful songs. A very interesting and talented guy imho. I’ll raise my teacup to him wherever he is.
My Suki’s playing the piano. I love to listen
@Pike Mopers I’m a a Merzbow fan. I’d love to see him do a concert if he ever does a US tour, I’ve heard they’re quite the experience.
@shikitohno do you listen to other ‘noise’ music? also, Merzbow is just one guy
Pike- I do vocals and bass, and write the music and most of the lyrics, it’s my creation. Oh, and I do all guitar on the 2 (Dawn CD) songs posted.
@Pike, yes, I listen to others, and the they’re was in reference to his concerts, not to any other imagined members. Picked up around 70 albums worth of classical LPs today. There’s a store I stop into every once in a while that moves old stock that hasn’t sold by giving away the classical LPs. Currently in the process of ripping them onto my harddrive as FLACs, and adding them to discogs’ database. Some of the highlights look like they’ll include a bunch of César Franck stuff, several of Antonin Dvořák’s symphonies, and a complete recording of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro,” including a book with complete Italian/English text and vocal scores. Thinking of going back Monday with a hand truck to see if they’ve got boxes left, as I took one of four.
@shikitohno oh, I misunderstood. wasn’t trying to get all superior on you if that’s how it came across. here is some noise I make (with a silly moniker): unicorngun.bandcamp.com
Still ripping those classical albums, currently working on the B-side to “Great German Songs - Album 2” by Hans Hotter and Gerald Moore. I got volumes 1 and 2 in the box, though it was the mono version for both of them. I think I’ve got some choral music coming up next. Edit: After several hours, I’m now working on “Ingvar Wixell Sings Verdi,” By Ingvar Wixell, with the Dresden State Orchestra. Any classical music buffs on here with a huge vinyl collection floating around? If so, I could use your expertise in a few days.
shuffling through Most Serene Republic, Johnny Foreigner and Minks
Mingus – The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. (Just incredible, every time)
Destruction - Thrash Anthems. The originals sound better.
Franz Nicolay’s Luck and Courage album. Really good. I first found out about him when I went to see Frank Turner a week or so ago.
Sunn O))) – Hunting & Gathering (Cydonia) Just saw Earth will be playing in NYC on June 16th. Definitely going to be there. Hang out at the LPR and have a couple zombie hunters, it’ll be a great show.
RED-Faceless. Great song!
I just discovered a “new” band. They actually were a NWOBHM band in the UK in the 80’s, called HELL. They made some EPs. Well, 2011, they make a debut album, with some lineup changes, buy wow! This album really rocks, I think. The vocalist is really great and unique. I’d say a mixture of Geddy Lee and Halford maybe. The songs rock too. Something about it gives me a rock opera vibe. Check it out, they do have a new clip on youtube.
Arab on Radar- Yahweh or the Highway
Yes- Tales from the topographic oceans.
Any Grateful Dead fans in here? I’m currently listening to the epic Dark Star from 1972-05-11
I love Grateful Dead! I collect their live flacs. My favorites are the Europe tour of '72 and the '77 spring tour.
@bipolarbear Have you checked out the series “Hunter’s Trix”? Some guy named Hunter Seamons makes incredible sounding “matrix” recordings. A matrix, if you don’t already know, is the soundboard recording layered over one or more audience recordings to make a great sound (if it is done properly.) http://bt.etree.org/?searchz=hunter’s+trix&cat=8 there is a link to all 76(!) shows he’s done for this series. If you just search “seamons” you can find many more shows he has done. If you haven’t already hear this guys matrices, you are in for a real treat!
Trying to listen to myself playing Lauro on a Khono.
@PikeMopers Yes I have! I believe the Cornell show from '77 is the best Matrix I’ve heard yet, although it’s not Seamon’s matrix. Do you prefer their live recording over the studios?
Uriah Heep’s High & Mighty
Johnny Rebel, and then some Rebel Son. LOL
@bipolarbear I have most of their studio albums on vinyl (they were my parents’) but they are better as decoration than on the turntable I must admit that their studio work is what got me interested in them but I don’t listen to them anymore.
Recently I’ve really been enjoying Gregg Allman’s latest, “Low Country Blues.” Highly recommended if you’re into old-school blues.
Anyone who’ll be in the area this weekend, there’s what looks like a great free concert coming up. http://bangonacan.org/marathon/schedule I’m particularly excited about the Bang on a Can/Philipp Glass set, and the Glenn Branca Ensemble. Now Playing: Les Rallizes Dénudés - Blind Baby Has Its Mother’s Eyes
The Lesson by Victor Wooten Figuring out the bassline If you’re a bassist and haven’t listened to this man, you are insane
Just got home from a Mountain Goats concert. about to check out the results of my first ever concert recording from it (for those unfamiliar, many artists allow people to use microphones to record their concerts as long as they are shared for free). @transistor Wooten is the king of the bass.
Shink that’s awesome. Love Rallizes Denudes. A band for the ages.
JJ Cale. I’m been on a all-encompassing JJ Cale jag for days now.
@transistor – I just now listened to “The Lesson”. It’s sweet, and fits well with my JJ jag, for the most part. No, I’m not a bassist. In fact, I took the bass I use for home demos to the tech yesterday for a basic cleaning and set up. VW has inspired me to get more out of it than just roots and fifths!
PM – Please share your recording results! I’ve yet to hear anything from the MGs, and will wait for your recording, if you are able to share.
@least_weasel Oh definitely. The mark of a good bassist is saying more with less and playing “for” the music. Unless it’s a bass solo album, however
@least_weasel It’s uploading right now to archive.org. I’ll PM you a link when it goes up. The sound is a little bit muddy during the louder songs but the quieter songs and the 4 songs that are just guitar and vocals sound great.
@bob I love them too, but I’d love them a lot more if it weren’t so difficult to get a hold of their stuff. Currently, I’ve got “le 12 mars '77 à Tachikawa,” “Blind Baby Has Its Mother’s Eyes” and “Live 1972.” The '77 Tachikawa is the best so far, and you can snag a copy pretty cheap. I’d love to get some more of their stuff this summer, but I’m putting more priority on filling out my Boris discography. Just got a shipping notice from Hello Merch that they’ve finally sent off the Ultimate Package for the two new albums today. LRD has to have one of the most hilarious stories I’ve heard of why they had to break up for a while though. “In 1970, the original bass player Moriaki Wakabayashi assisted in the hijacking of Japan Airlines Flight 351 orchestrated by the Japanese Red Army.” He defected to North Korea, where he’s remained since, and has turned down offers of repatriation twice now. Seems he’s had a change of heart now, though. “In a March 2010 interview with Kyodo News, Moriaki Wakabayashi stated that the hijacking was a “selfish and conceited” act. Wakabayashi added that he wished to return to Japan and was willing to face arrest and trial for his role in the hijacking.” I’m surprised it took him 40 years to see how that wasn’t the best way to show his dedication to the cause, though. Now playing: Suishou no Fune - The Memory Of The Ancient Times
Someone actualy went to north korea by choice. That’s amazing.
I’d love to visit N. Korea. I don’t believe it’s all bad for everyone.
Van Morrison-Astral Weeks
I personaly am under the impression that north korea isn’t a very great place to live. I’am also under the impression that south korea is pretty awesome except for being near north korea. Then again that’s based off of reading and speculation cause that’s pretty much most information on north korea.
There was a great national geographic documentary on North Korea. It is a terrible place, with several concentration camps, and the people are completely brainwashed. It was pretty sad.
Now playing:水晶の舟 - 春の夜の蝶 [Spring Night Butterfly] For what it’s worth, South Korea kind of sucks too. I like the culture and all, I’d even be interested in learning the language, but there are some definite drawbacks to the country that would prevent me from living there. My biggest gripe with the country is that it has one of the most draconian internet laws of any nominally democratic country on earth. In South Korea, any citizens wishing to post material/comments online must enter their unique ID number. I believe if you are a foreigner, you’re supposed either fax a copy of your passport to each website hosted on Korean servers that you wish to post on, or to some government office that grants you a number. I’m pretty sure it’s each site, though. This was passed in order to cut down on cyber-bully by taking away the anonymity of the internet. The other big thing is the ultra-nationalism going on in South Korea. For anyone interested, just google “Hetalia Koreans.” The Koreans disagreed with how a Japanese manga/anime series portrayed them, so they simply organized petitions and threatened violence against Japanese people until the broadcaster pulled the show off the air in JAPAN. Seriously, I know some really chill Koreans, but forget that. I think the year I’ll have to spend over there will be enough of Korean for me. You’d also be surprised at how many people defected to North Korea and have willingly remained there, despite being offered repatriation. It’s a fair sized list. Also, @tom502 is right. North Korea isn’t a bad place for everyone. If you happen to be Kim Jong-Il, I hear it’s a pretty sweet place to be.
Well, we are treading a subject that usually gets shut down. But knowing we are still “at war” with N.Korea, propaganda still rules, and I don’t fully believe what we are being told about our “enemy”.
Now playing: Laibach - in the midst of struggles True that technically there was no end to the police action on the Korean peninsula, but even their allies like the PRC paint a pretty grim picture of what life is like in North Korea. Aside from the opinions on the situation given by other nations, there’s also the testimony of conditions there by the people who’ve escaped and defected to the south. It’s up there with Belarus on my list of places I’d rather not visit, though.
@tybalt – I saw your last post and let out an audible sigh of appreciation. @Pike Mopers – Mt. Goats have a great thing going, for me. I listened to the first few tracks, and will return later. I find the singer is very Roky Erickson, with a hint of Bowie (this comes off like a snuff review). Nice arrangements. Thanks! I grew up, pop musically speaking, in the 70s, and this is familiar to me–but also really fresh.
Now playing: Youssou N’Dour - Pitche Mi @Pike Mopers How’s the H2 work for you? I’ve been thinking of getting a field recording type kit for a while. Partly for recording stuff outside, and partly for doing friend’s concerts. Also, anyone know how to do two word mentions for people like Pike Mopers that have a two part user name, separated by a space?
@shikitohno I am extremely pleased with the H2. Amazing value considering the low price-tag and high quality. Also, a little bit of experimenting with gain levels and volume really brings out the full potential (don’t think I’ve quite mastered it yet). I feel like I’m in a commercial every time I talk about it. 2 standard AA’s last for quite some time. I recorded a show that was about 1 hour and 20 minutes and it used less than half the battery power. It also has a lot of quality settings. At the highest setting (WAV, 96Hz, 24bit), my 8GB SD card holds about 3 hours of material (the quality is almost pointlessly high at that setting). Standard lossless (44.1Hz, 16bit) is more like 8-10 hours. It can even record 128kbps MP3 if you don’t care much about high quality (a good setting for an interview or podcast). The gain controls cover everything from loud concerts to quiet talking. It also has an auto-gain setting which is pretty good for recording conversations but pretty useless for a music or field recording. Here is a cover of a Beirut song I recorded with it (only effect used is some really light echo on the backing vocals): http://soundcloud.com/buttersounds/postcards-from-italy-beirut Here are some nature sounds from my backyard: http://soundcloud.com/buttersounds/back-deck-sounds Here’s a show I recorded the other night: http://www.archive.org/details/tmg2011-06-14 (sounds much better on the quieter songs, check out “You Were Cool”)
Smashing Pumkins Siamease Dream… Fuzzy Bliss!
Rory Gallagher
Im listening to BBC Radio 2, as I do every day. Usually I catch the second half of The Big Show and the first half of Drive Time. If you’re never listened to R2 I heartily recommend it.
Wolves In The Throne Room - A Looming Resonance @Pike Mopers I grabbed that show off archive.org last night before I posted it. That’s how I knew about your H2. I remember when I saw Sunn O))) and Boris play Altar last fall I was sitting right behind a guy with a great looking kit. He had two long mics, and they were crossed over each other. One thing to consider with live recordings that I feel is overlooked is your position within the venue. Unless you’re cutting a line off the soundboard, it makes a huge difference. My friends that came with me to see Altar wanted to hang out right up front, and I headed straight for the back section of the balcony. Everything was really muddy for them, but when they came back to where I was, it sounded much better. You could hear all the channels, and it was much less packed in back there.
My band, ASTRUM. The new CDs are ready.
@shikitohno I was set up right by the soundboards. It was the sweet spot of the venue which isn’t saying much about the venue. I’ve never felt like investing in tubes or expensive microphones since I just wanted something for home recordings. Half of the time, I plug the H2 into my cassette 4-track anyways.
http://www.thisisnewfoundlandlabrador.ca/mediaplayer/player.asp Congrats on the discs, Tom…I’m sure that took some work.
Thanks. It should be getting some online reviews in the next week or so.
Now playing: Terry Riley - In C @bob Snagged a 2CD release from Les Rallizes Dénudés today by chancing to walk into the only record store I’ve ever come across that stocks them regularly enough to actually have a tab for them in their CD racks. Hoping that when I go back next week they’ll still have the 5LP Great White Wonder set in stock, but I doubt it. Still, a happy chance to have discovered that store. They also have some Xhol Caravan I’ll grab if the Great White Wonder is gone.
that would be awesome
me I’am listening to keith garret
Pandora (internet radio) added some comedy channels. I’m listening to “raw dog radio” which is the “R” rated version. Just finished listening to Lewis CK which is one of my favorites. George Carlin right now.
me too I listened to some l. C.K. today.
Yeah I learned you can watch just about his whole act on youtube. It is better watching him than just listening.
true, though now I’am listening to slowdive. Been listening to them a lot lately.
If you guys enjoy C.K.'s comedy, you should check out his TV show, “Louie.” Hilarious.
love that show just waiting for more of it a.k.a. season 2. That show is amazing. I think my favorite scene is when he’s under the gas at the dentist and he hallucinates talking to Osama Bin Laden and asks him if he would like it if someone acted like he was acting and then the terrorist say they never thought of it that way.
it takes something seriously funny to be able to pull off a scene like that for laughs.
Augustus Pablo - East of the River Nile

My new CD just got a great review: http://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/Astrum/Tales\\_of\\_Witchlore/309379/christinhell
Jeff Beck – Jeff. Love the song “Seasons”. Love all the songs, actually.
Listening to Group Doueh’s new album, Zayna Jumma. They seem to have taken a slightly different direction but I still love it. Highly recommended for anyone who can appreciate solid guitar skills. To me, their music sounds like African-tradition-infused psychedelic rock. I am going to see them in concert tomorrow night and I’m SO PUMPED.
Ladyfriend and I were talking about 70s music. This one came up… David Dundas “Jeans”
Laurie Anderson - Strange Angels
Now playing: Explosions in the Sky - Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean @Pike Mopers Based on your last post in here, I’ve got a recommendation for you. Ever listen to Baba Zula? They do a fusion of Psychedelic and Turkish/Oriental traditional music, based in Istanbul. And if you can enjoy some world folk, Aynur Doǧan is a Kurdish singer from Istanbul as well. There’s a really good documentary on the music scene there called Crossing the Bridge, was done by the bassist from Einstürzende Neubauten. As for solid guitar skills, I’ll just leave this here. Skip ahead to about 2:50 to avoid the speeches. Even when I practised every day, I couldn’t play that song as written, let alone speed up to 600 BPM. I’d be interested to see more of repertoire when I have the time to browse his channel, just to make sure he’s got more going than just shredding insanely fast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVHVXopRmI8&feature=player\\_embedded#at=170
Mike Oldfield - Five Miles Out
shiki, ridiculously awesome! “flight of the bumblebee” … crazy … i can’t play it slow. nice post!
Thank /links for it, I just happen to see it while browsing b3ta the other day. Now I’ve got one of my favourite new finds going, Fausto Romitelli - Hellucination 1 “Drowingirl.” Third part to Romitelli’s last piece, An Index of Metals, which I had the good fortune of seeing performed by the Talea Ensemble a short while ago. I’d really have loved to see the opera he was planning to expand this into.
1:27PM Now playing: Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Providence 4:09PM Now playing: Gyan Riley - Trillémolo (For Agustin Barrios Mangoré)
Tomita - Firebird Suite
Now playing: Popol Vuh - Der große Krieger
Martin Kaj La Talpoj - Pli ol Nenio. An album sung in Esperanto, bloody good too. Stefan
claire Voyant.
@shikitohno thanks for the recommendations. that turkish band sounds great!
I play blues lead, but not gigged for about 4 or 5 years now. I’ve got ‘garage band’ which is a home studio give away on new macs, plus in the local Apple store I saw a cute little unit to d.i guitar straight into the computer. My current project (which I always have to have) is to learn this extremely complicated looking piece of kit and make some tracks. Problem is Im no great shakes on IT and the thing looks pretty formidable; probly a 14 year old could figure it in 10 minutes but Im 47. By the way if any member wants to exhibit their skills on the site they are very welcome to. With you on bass playing @Transistor. It goes even more for lead. Good amateurs show their all range of licks in the first solo in the set usually, like they are scared the audience will not know how good they are. Musos have the confidence to just play.
@shikitohno - Holy S£$%!!! Just watched the guy. Solid guitar skills? This guy’s technique is hovering in the unknown region above Vai’s head. At my most practiced best (a long while ago) I reckon I could sustain 170bpm for a couple of bars, but that would have been full of hammer ons and offs in a static position, which we all know is how guitar players who can’t double pick like that give the illusion of speed. Players of a more jealous nature might say ‘yeah, but is it music, is it artistry?’ But I would be confident that he could play a slow blues number and make you weep. Git!
Now playing: George Nooks - General Hmm, a couple threads seem to have fallen off the face of snuffhouse for me. This one and the History Quiz II aren’t rising to the top for me like they should. Was there a setting changed that I missed?
To test and see if this thread has started to get bumped again, now ripping the new Up-Tight LP, The Night is Yours. Managed to buy the last copy the label had in stock, and got a partial refund as the postal clerk undercharged the guy for shipping.
