I remember this thread existing once before and I thought it was cool to see the musical tastes of members and since I feel more down than a snake in a trench I’m jamming all day long. Right now it’s Leonard Cohen “Dance me to the end of love” (Bad bad choice right now, beautiful song however so screw it) after that it will be Alice Coopers “Poison” to temper the sadness with a lil rock and roll sleaze
The Who - Squeeze Box
Lots of Sigur Ros lately
Moved on to Cage The Elephant. Damn good music
HankIII
YES!! Hank III is badass.
AMEN Brotha!
Caetano Veloso and Jorge Ben. Força bruta!
You know I like most kinds of music but I can’t listen usually. It seems to be that one stimulus thhat pushes my a.d.d. over the edge. I can bareley hold a conversation with music going, seems odd because I tune out most noises that others find annoying and distracting.
Leonard Cohen freakin rules. Today it was Crash Test Dummies and the Dead, and a little Rilo Kiley. Kind of all over the place. @Johndeere89, I know exactly what you mean; when there’s music on I can’t pay attention to anything else. So I don’t get to listen to much music, alas.
@ddavelarsen Leonard Cohen is absolutely one of the most amazing and most emotionally moving music I have ever heard. I can’t get enough of LC. It’s funny because the majority of what I listen to is metal styles otherwise but it is great the looks people give me for being this pierced, tattooed, dressed in black and skulls with Leonard Cohen blaring at high volume out of the car! “Hallelujah” I think is his best and THE only song EVER to get me choked up. All that aside right now I am listening to The Mars Volta “Viscera Eyes”
I used to be heavily into metal when I was younger. Used to love bands like Bongzilla, Electric Wizard, Burning Witch, Eyehategod. Slow, bassy, sludge metal. My favorite band for the last couple years has been Sgt. Dunbar and the Hobo Banned. They are incredible musicians and songwriters. They’re from Albany, NY. I live about 1hr and a half north of Albany. They are more folk rock I guess, which may sound like a turn off but if you heard them I’m sure you’d think they sound great. Also, I’d recommend you check out We Are Jeneric. They are amazingly talented. Check out these guys too, The Dutchess and the Duke. Really talented. Heres one of my favs from Dutchess and the Duke, please listen when you guys get a chance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KtHV4GzUMM
Eyehategod was good sludge New Orleans metal. Right up there with Down and the almighty Crowbar.
Yeah, I really dug their sound. Their vocalists lyrics we’re just about damn near impossible to decypher though, eh? LoL. My buddy from high school played a show with Eyehategod. He said they were so drunk, they were puking on stage. They apologized and continued playing. He said he stole one of their drums, or maybe it was a mic. hahah I really listened to them for that slow, droning, bassy guitar riffs that I craved.
I think I’m being dated here, this is the music my son listens to! I’ve only ever heard Leonard Cohen do Hallelujah once, in the movie Watchmen. Another great version of the song is by Jeff Buckley, the first time I heard it. That is one of the greatest songs ever written, in my book. But I’m still a deadhead at heart. I bet that would put you guys to sleep!
As much as I dig Cohen, the most awe inspiring version of Hallelujah has to be John Cale’s.
+1 for Electric Wizard too
@bruteforce&ignorance Cale did a terrific job on that song, no doubt. It was beautiful and inspiring but it’s Cohens song and I love his voice like crazy and just feel like everytime I hear the line “I did my best, it wasn’t much. I couldn’t feel so i tried to touch…” that it’s the same goosebumps and shivers from Leonards voice as the first time I ever heard the song. Again Cale did a really excellent job though, no doubt. I actually just put Cohen back on and am listening to “If it be your will”. Simply breathtaking. Davelarsen I like some GD. My parents were epic hippies and obligatory deadheads.
You just made me pull Various Positions out and give it a spin. It made me think about what a weird, unexpected turn Cohen took in the 80’s. I mean, that one and I’m Your Man sound like Italian disco or something at times. Those drum machines and the drone of his voice. Somehow it works and the songs on both are majestic.
Yeah he really did deviate from his traditional sound in the 80’s yet instead of a disaster being created by an artist trying to acclimate to the era and losing what set them apart; He still just put out amazing music that filled you with emotion, images and inspiration. I thought “First We Take Manhattan” was so different for him but so…right at the same time. Then when "I heard “In my secret life” I just decided if there was a song this man could do wrong I have yet to hear it. Now I HAVE to listen to “The Future”…that song is so bleak and dystopian if you really pay attention “Give me absolute control over every living soul. Come lie beside me baby, that’s an order. Give me crack and an*l s3x, take the only tree that’s left and stuff it up the hole in your culture” PURE FREAKING GENIUS SONGWRITING
Sometime in the fall something “clicked” in my brain and I can’t seem to get enough baroque music. Vivaldi has so much emotion in his work… Its fantastic. I think those upstart kids Mozart and Beethoven and everything since that new fangled device called a piano have made a real mess of things. Seriously, its good stuff, and you guys who get distracted by music, I have the same issue, but I can listen to some (but not all) classical and also be able to work. In metal, I had my socks knocked off by Archaic Revival. In neo-pyschodelia, I’m discovering My Morning Jacket. Plenty of other stuff too. I like my music like I like my snuff: a wide variety of styles, but fall deeply in love with a few shining examples of each style.
@Xander I like how you compared music and snuff. That is about spot on for me as well. My CD collection is wide variety spanning all genres with the exception of country-western (where my only loves are Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard aside from those I just don’t have any taste or love for country) and there some that I listen too nearly daily like I snuff Indian snuff almost daily and then there are those ones for satisfying the occasional odd craving in the same manner as snuffing US scotches. Then there are those masterpieces that I absolutely obsess over to the point where I will only listen to them in the right setting, right mood and right circumstances so as to never have a bad memory or negative feeling become associated with this beloved song, like the Dholakia limited Orange that I only snuff under the right conditions because it is to me, nearly perfect and I can never get it again once it’s gone. I really liked that comparison Xander, it was quite fitting. First song of the b-day- Guns and Roses “Estranged”
Junky Vs DemonDubz Vol 11 (JunkyzJellyMix) dubstep mix. Dubstep…it’s not a genre, it’s a lifestyle!!!
Alcatrazz- Hiroshima Mon Amour Sinners and Saints- Phillip Pickett and the New London Consort Alice in Chains- Bleed the freak
Mars Volta…probably for the majority of the day. Been listening to their discography since this stuff with my wife happened One of the most underrated and talented and unique bands I ever became obsessed with
@The Nose Knows I happen to share you obsession with TMV, I’ve been a devoted fan since seeing Inertiatic ESP on MTV2 all those years ago. It puts me in a unique situation since I’d never even heard of ATDI until about 2007 and to this day their previous incarnation is not something I’ve visited with much gusto. They’re something special though, greater than the sum of the parts.

Radio Newfoundland Labrador (Much thanks to Snuffhead who got me on this quite a few months ago!)
Nice Bart!! had to hit it up…love some decent streaming radio!!
Ha! Wow! Great version of Ripple!!!
Today was Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled His Feet, and Grateful Dead - From the Mars Hotel. Good enough for me!
Damn Bart for the Radio Newfoundland Labrador suggestion…I’m hooked! Actually many thanks sir, great station! @ddavelarsen u should check it out…i think it might be right up your alley!
I’ll see if I can track that down @FischTix, thanks for the suggestion!
FT, Well, you can thank Master Snuffhead on that one. My first love is old country/bluegrass/hill music from 1900-mid 1950’s. But I also enjoy anywhere from Ramones to early Mozart piano concertos to ZZ Top and Rush to Gordon Lightfoot…so even I haven’t figured myself out ,really.
here ya go d diggity dave http://www.thisisnewfoundlandlabrador.ca/
The "song history’ button is a nice feature too, since most the folks playing are new to me.

For a Minor Reflection’s new cd. Bloody good stuff! Stefan
Lazy Cowgirls - Tappin’ the Source Bobby Bland - Two Steps from the Blues Kinks - Kontroversy
^^I’m loving my Kinks remasters. Kontroversy has 4 bonus tracks. It makes collecting Kinks material so much easier!
Indeed, specially considering how many of their best sides ended up in EPs and are now conveniently appended to the LPs. My only complaint with the reissues is that some of them use the stereo masters (Something Else, Arthur, maybe even Face to Face if I remember right). Nothing beats the mono mixes of the era, when the stereo version was really an afterthought without much, if any, involvement from the band or producer. For anyone willing to take the trouble and still in possession of a turntable, the original Reprise mono LPs are surprisingly easy to find and go for a lot less than you would think.
“here ya go d diggity dave http://www.thisisnewfoundlandlabrador.ca/” Damn that’s great Fischy! Thanks!
@bruteforce&ignorance: good points. Last I checked a few of the remasters contained both stereo and mono versions. Village Green Preservation Society had a rather large size (re) re-release. I haven’t checked back in awhile to see what’s new.
True, Village Green has both mixes in the 3 CD behemoth version.
Not a prob at all Dave…that’s pretty much all I’ve been listening to lately while on the internet…really nice mix of music!
Newfoundland Labrador. What an awesome radio station.
A noise track I recorded awhile ago. The trick with noise is to imply a melody or something like that.
Bitcrush, all day. Im gonna work my way through his whole discography and then move on to his labelmate SubtractiveLAD. all a great crossbreed mixture of ambient music, shoegaze and crunchy glitchy electronica…blissful day for me
R.E.O Speedwagon, Kansas and Asia today.
King Diamond - The Eye
@tom502 Good man! I really like King Diamond, and Mercyful Fate, and own most albums by both. Such an impressive vocal range, to be able to sing deeply at times but mainly be known for such an ear piercing falsetto that makes it sound like he has his ‘bits’ trapped in a vice!
Yelawolf
Charles Lloyd Quartet – “Mirror” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9FT9S7XDUw Generally considered to be the best jazz album of 2010.
