OT ukulele

Just picked up a Lanikai LU 21c. Any one have comments on my choice. First uke purchase. Wealth of uke sites available to learn with. I’m having a great time learning. I’m snuffing and learning uke to try to relax and keep the brain cells alive. I noticed Kala has a Pocket uke but WTF, it’s around $300. Too much for what appears to be a “gimmick.”

I got one too, inspired just from seeing the original thread. An ‘East coast’. I think apart from the really good ones most of the mid range ukes are made in some factory in the East and given various names, a bit like contract brand snuff. Its been a lot of fun learning it, as I play guitar it was an easy transition. I like playing blues on it, sound like a cross between a banjo and accoustic.

I was listening to ukelele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro earlier today. Amazing what he can do with the instrument. www.fleamarketmusic.com offers a brand of uke called the Flea which is reputed to be a good starter instrument. Prices start at $179.

Don’t know if this is OK, but here is one of my ukulele tunes that has been picking up a fair bit of radio play… http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9389029 It’s called ‘Once More Round The Block’ by henwrench. Enjoy!

@henwrench Pretty nice man…I dug it! I like the copyright btw…lol!!!

@henwrench Very sweet. How long have tou been playing? Self taught? @ PSS I hope to upgrade if I can stick with this and it doesn’t wind up in the closet with my Minelab and Bounty Hunter metal detectors. The uke is a lot less labor intensive than metal detecting. Seems to be more rewarding too. Snuffing is great hobby for me. Little effort-big rewards. The web is a plethora of uke music and tutorials. Liking it a lot so far.

I’ve been playing the uke for about 2 years and am the proud owner of a £25.00 ukulele. It does the job!! Glad you like the song…

@henwrench Great song!

Any of you on to the cigar box ukulele craze?

Henwrench, sorry , been away for a while, but struggled to find your track. Would love to hear it. I do like to showcase new uke Talent on my blog too. Apologies for starting this thread then leaving it alone. Personal reasons. But still snuffing! In fact sat now with a tin of J&H medicated 99 (I have a cold)

Hmmm… I wonder if the ukulele craze only comes around once every generation? I seem to recall that the last 2 waves were lead by Tiny Tim (of “Laugh In” fame) and Arthur Godfrey.

Tiny Tim is probably going on three generations now, when you think about it. I don’t know if there is a craze or not but they are a lot of fun, particularly if you are an anywhere near competent guitar player because they take about five minutes to learn to play. I have found mine very useful as a finger excerciser for more serious guitar playing.
