OT: Quit Smoking with E-Cigs (and snuff)

Thought you might like to know about a special we have going with eclectic smoker. If you want to try e-cigs, then it might be a good time to check this out. The offer will only last till 1st Jan, so if your (or yours) New year resolution includes cutting down on the ciggies, then it’s worth a look-see. See here at MrSnuff: Eclectic SmokerHave a good one. Dave

Dave…The site looks great(as well as the special offers).Take it from one who knows…Snuff and E-cigs go hand in hand!!(or is that mouth and nose?) The Wiz!

This interests me to a small degree, but I just don’t know. That disposable one, does it last long? I’ve never had an e-cig before.

Hullo tom I’ve been vaping since February last. Here’s a good e-cig primer from e-cigarette-forum.comThe disposable that’s offered on eclectic is a reasonable price to give you something of an idea of what vaping is about. Just as this is the goto forum for snuff, if you wanted to pursue the e-cig, ECF is the place to go. HTH

Eclectic has an even better deal going on for a few days on the disposable. $9.95! Click hereLet me know what you think. Dave

Yes the ECF is the way to go. But it’s confusing. I’d suggest for a beginner The top e-cig is the 510 AKA Joye 510. The batteries and atomizer are the most reliable of all e-cigs. Once you decide that you like E-cigs than purchase the new Prodigy 2. It vapes at around 5volts which is the sweet spot. You’ll want to use the Prodigy with a 801 Atomizer. I’ve been vaping since June and could have saved a lot of time, money and models if I’d followed this advise.

Hey all, thought I would resurrect this thread since I’ve recently gotten into vaping. I ordered a Q-Cig disposable 510, liked it and now have a Joye eGo on the way from cignot.com. I tried (and failed) to quit cigarettes using snuff and snus last year, but never could shake the hand-to-mouth of cigarettes and now with PACT upon us decided I didn’t want to pay the Michigan 32% OTP tax along with private-carrier shipping. Anybody else here vaping?

I’ve been vaping about a year and a half. I use a 6 volt device called the Saber, which has no moving parts; the switch is activated by skin conduction. I recommend high voltage vaping for those who want to be successful quitting cigarettes; the typical 3.7V experience just doesn’t pack enough vapor to get the full effect of inhaling a smoke. I’d also recommend a smaller and friendlier forum that was my home for a long time, Vapor Talk. The community there doesn’t get into those little bitchy wars that were so aggravating for me at ECF. Though, there’s a whole lot of valuable info at ECF, and no serious vaper can ignore that forum. I just found Vapor Talk more comfortable, but I’m a pretty laid back individual. The Saber is sold by Vapor Moon and comes with a five year warranty. It’s a wonderful device; I couldn’t live without it, and I tried a whole lot of vaporizers before I found that one. That said, probably the most popular vaporizer is the eGo; it’s a wonderful unit too and thousands of people have been very happy with it. Finally, my last suggestion is to be willing to try higher nic levels than are commonly recommended and sold. I vape 48mg per ml, a pretty high concentration of nicotine, but I was a very heavy smoker for 40 years and 24mg or even 36mg was never satisfying enough for me to be successful. 48mg did it for me, but a lot of vapers would freak out at that level of nicotine. I’m only suggesting that if your first experience with vaping doesn’t seem satisfying, it’s probably because you’re not getting enough voltage (voltage rules) and too low a dose of nic. Vaping can satisfactorily help anyone quit smoking who truly wants to stop. Another real benefit is being able to vape in places where smoking is prohibited. I vape openly at my desk at work, vape in restaurants, doctor’s offices, standing in line at the grocery store, pretty much anywhere I go, with no worries. Occasionally I get a sidelong look from someone but no one has ever openly challenged me about it. I’m sure that’s because I act like I’m not doing anything wrong – because I’m not. There is no secondhand smoke with vaping; the vapor dissipates so quickly and thoroughly that there is no smell or cloud to draw attention. So far, vaping is legal virtually everywhere. The FDA is trying to regulate their use though, which is a righteous pain in the keester for vapers generally. That will all get sorted out eventually. If you’re interested, check the forums; that’s the best place to get good advice. Ask a lot of questions before purchasing your first device, and save a lot of money that you would otherwise spend finding your sweet spot.

PS – since I’ve started taking snuff, it’s replaced about a third of my vaping; maybe more. I really enjoy snuff.

@ ddavelarsen: Valuable info all, thanks so much! Yes, I did a fair amount of lurking on ECF but so far have decided not to join; not so much because of any infighting but just because there is so much damned info flying about it was overwhelming! What I did glean from both ECF and DonDaBoomVape’s excellent vapingguides.com, is that the Joye 510 is a favorite by far, but also through several threads (and my own experience with automotive electrical systems) is that a 180 mah battery supplying a 1a current will NOT survive long, so I decided to go with the eGo for openers. I will have to check out the Saber; so far I’ve been looking at the Reo Mini as my first possible box mod, but since Mrs. S and I run on a tight budget and she’s fully aware of my penchant for gadgetry, I reckon I’ll vape on the eGo for a while before I broach the subject of upgrading. As for nic levels, the Q-Cig came with 24mg Marlb carts which certainly provided enough throat hit to satisfy so I decided to stick with 24 for my first few orders of e-liquid. I used to be a 2-pack-a-day smoker years ago, but thanks to snuff I managed to pare it down to 10 cigs a day or less. I reckon 24 mg will do it. Last but not least, Michigan became the 37th state to go smokefree last May, which has led to no small amount of grumbling from yours truly and my smoking cronies. However, I’m also a dad who doesn’t smoke in the house or in the car, and this being January I’m tired of suiting up to go out in the cold for a cig and then coming in to wash up and gobble mints so I don’t smell like an ashtray. I’m definitely looking forward to vaping everywhere (within reason) and merely setting the thing down when done, instead of going through a cleaning process akin to decontaminating after cleaning up asbestos, heh. Oh. And I’ve smoked cigs for years but never smoked Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper. Thanks to the world of vaping, come Monday I’ll be vaping both!

Oh yes James, all the flavors are a trip by far! I went through a period of mixing my own liquid, tried all kinds of neat stuff and finally settled on one my original favorite flavors, 555. That’s pretty much all I vape now, and it’s totally satisfying for me. But I have a great kit for mixing and whenever I feel the urge I whip up some new concoction that does the trick for me. Vaping is a great thing and I hope more people find success quitting smoking, regardless whether it’s taking our lovely snuff or vaping everywhere. You’re going to love your eGo, congratulations. I understand the domestic tradeoffs that come with vaping and just keep in mind that the technology is growing so fast that there will always be a newer and better device just around the corner. That’s one reason I’m so glad my Saber is such a great unit; I no longer have that urge to try yet another device looking for vape nirvanna…

So far I have ordered a tobacco sampler, a menthol sampler, and the aforementioned pop flavors. I’d like to try RY4 and some of the awesome-sounding juices from Backwoods Brew as well… Mrs. S supports my decision to quit the butts, but having quit recently herself I’m NOT to vape around her, as it’s too much of a temptation! But since one can do it indoors, and have the choice of merely taking one or two hits, I’ve managed to pull off several puffs right under her nose, so to speak. Also, went to the movies tonight and had several stealth vapes during the show. Joy! Or should I say, Joye! Hehehe…

 Good one James. Vaping in the theater is one of the best aspects of vaping in all! The first time I truly enjoyed a full movie was after I started vaping. Before that, I’d be all fidgety long before the movie was over. Anymore, my PV is a requirement for going to the movies. It’s funny how this thread has revived so much about vaping that I just take for granted now; it’s become thoroughly ingrained in my life. All the hassle of keeping the vaporizer going is just part of my day now, no more conscious than brushing my teeth.

I wonder if we’re the only vapers on this board? Kind of seems like it.

I just got a ecig. last week. I like it. I have quit smoking for a few months now. but i would still think about them occasionally, so I got one. it is ok. it is a cig2o.

Congratulations Mark! Glad to hear it’s working for you.

Thanks. I am going to grab more flavors. one of the batteries went through the wash this weekend. DOH! I am hoping it will dry out and work again. I don’t use it as much as snuff and snus though. Luckily, it came with another battery. One will work for the meantime. Or, I can use it as an excuse to get an ecig like yours. Sounds like a good one. Plus, the nic content only goes up to 24 mg on mine. It would be awesome to have a 48 mg one.

I use a Buzz from Notcigs and a Prodigy V3 from Puresmoker! I vape Honey flue cured from LXP and Boba’s Bounty from avejuice! (along with about 100 other flavors :)) Ecigs and Tom Buck (along with a million other tins) Saved my life!!! Spread the word, and F the FDA!!!

I’m not completely sold on the e-cigs yet i’ve heard a few folks complain about their eye sight which worries me a bit. For the moment snuff all day is doing it for me.

I was into them for a while. Very expensive, very frustrating habit IMO. Also, I would chain vape the highest nic strength I could get and still wasn’t getting a fix. I don’t think nicotine can be absorbed in this way, at least not enough to curb the cravings. A lot of it is just the hand to mouth thing, the rest is just placebo. Again, this is my opinion, if they work for you that’s all that matters.
